BISSON Daniel Noel Joseph Passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021, with his close and endeared cousin, Florence Neville, by his side, Daniel Noel Joseph Bisson, age 73 (born December 23, 1947), from Welland, Ontario. "Our Dan" is predeceased by his mother Ellen Isabelle (Nellie Neville) Bisson, father Dennis Michael Bisson, Uncle Gilles Bisson, Uncle Andy Bisson, Uncle Guy Bisson, Uncle Yvon Bisson, Aunt Alice Bisson, Uncle Richard (Violet) Neville (and their daughter, cousin Kathleen Neville), Aunt Edna Neville, Aunt Kathleen (Donald) Doyle (and their son, cousin Glenn Doyle), Uncle Robert Neville, and baby cousin Neville Richard White. Leaving to celebrate his life are his loving sister Carol Ann (Basil) Della Valle, nephews David (Dawn) Della Valle (and their sons Michael Della Valle and Matthew Della Valle), Adam Della Valle and Brian (Signe) Della Valle, Aunt Wilma Bisson, cousins Gerry (Judy) Neville, Tom (Elaine) Neville, Vince (Dorothy) Neville, Rick (Jessie) Neville, Frances (Ed) Hearn, Steve Neville, Florence Neville, Randy (Rose) Neville, Ralph Doyle, Ross (Maureen) Doyle, Barbara Broom, Todd Bisson, Michael Bisson, John David Bisson, Raymond Begin, Dianne Begin, Lorraine Proulx, Lynn Proulx, Caroline Couldry, David Pare, Guy Jr. Bisson, Maurice Bisson, Nelson Bisson, Sherry Bisson, Shawn Bisson, and Bobby Bisson. Dan had numerous fond memories growing up. He spoke many times of all the fun he had with family at his grandfather's farm and all the games they played while staying at Uncle Gilles' and Aunt Wilma's summer cottage. Dan went on to spend a career working for the Dofasco Steel Mill as an Instrumentation Technician in Hamilton, Ontario. Throughout those years he appreciated his home life, growing his own tomatoes and flowers. He spent a good number of fun times with his nephews and cousins, whether it was swimming at his pool, visiting them or taking them for a ride on his ATV to his big piece of property. For Dan it was always the simple things in life that he savored, especially watching nature. Dan would marvel at the birds while feeding them, sometimes even mimicking their calls. Once he retired, Dan found a new niche when he re-connected with family in Newfoundland. Soon he was regarded as a close family member to his cousin Florence, her daughter Julia, son Justin (Lesley) Neville-White and grandchildren Hayley and Kelsey Rose. It was there that he rekindled a purpose and close relationship with another part of his family. From then on this kind-hearted soul would partake in many nature-loving activities which usually included helping animals, all at the much slower pace he relished so much. He continued his love for growing plants and flowers at home and enjoyed his trips to Quincy's Quarters. He liked watching hockey and will be forever remembered as "A HABS FAN". His sense of humor and storytelling will be forever loved and missed. Dan's cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation and celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com

BRODERICK Winnifred Joan (Barbour) On Saturday, March 27th, Winnifred Joan Broderick passed away at home. She was 88 years of age. Winnie is pre-deceased by her husband William Broderick and her mother and father, Stella Barbour (Hill) and Edward Barbour. Her daughter Carol (Russell), and her son David (Jennifer) are deeply saddened by her passing. She will also be missed by her brothers Wayne (Molly), George, and Tom (Ruby), her sister Beatrice Schinagl (Franz), and her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Winnie (known informally as Nin) started working at CN Railway as a young lady fresh out of clerical school. While at CN she met many lifelong friends as well as her fortunate soon-to-be husband, Bill. Soon after marriage she and Bill settled down in a quiet St John's neighborhood and had two children to whom she devoted exceptional amounts of time, love, and wisdom. But this caring extended to all who knew her. Nin was viewed by many of her children's friends as a second mother, such was the tremendous kindness she displayed without the slightest effort. Of course, no description of Winnie would be complete without a nod to her inborn musical talent, as evidenced by her soft and beautiful singing voice as well as the delicate, moving way in which she could play the piano. As much as her love was felt by us, so too is her loss. But in the wake of that loss lies a better, more caring world for those who were lucky enough to know her. The family thanks the Community Health and Palliative Care teams for their compassion and help during Winnifred's illness. Extra special thanks to community nurse Lori Metcalfe and home support worker Destiny. Cremation has taken place. Visitation and a funeral service will be held at Carnell's this week, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, numbers are limited. If you would like to attend, please contact David or Carol. Michael was a man of many talents, whose creativity shone through in his love of building, art, cooking and baking. He was a master carpenter, whose great skill may be seen in the many homes and buildings he built from O'Donnell's to Mount Carmel and beyond. Before beginning his career as a Carpenter, Michael worked on the American base in Stephenville, operated a taxi to and from St. John's, fished for many years, and worked at Churchill Falls. There was nothing Michael loved more than sharing a home-cooked meal and a cup of tea with family and friends. No visit was complete without hearing one of the many stories from his childhood and adult years. Each of his children have been honored and blessed to be recipients of one of his many lovingly gifted paintings. Michael was hard-working and spent many days in the woods cutting firewood, bringing it home where he split and stored it. No job was too difficult for him and he remained active up to his 90's. Michael shared his unconditional love with his family. In his words, "When God gave me all of you, he gave me the best." We, his family, are blessed that God gave us the best husband and Dad; our love for Dad and our memories of him will live in our hearts forever. Heaven has received a special angel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Father Steve Courtney, who offered comfort and prayer during this very difficult time. We express a heartfelt thank you to Community Health Nurse Ashley Careen, whose support and guidance has been immeasurable. Our sincere gratitude to Marlene Butland, who helped Dad through both the easy and difficult times while performing his home care with her deep love for Dad and his family, as well as Kevin Butland and Candace Hickey for their support with Dad's care during his final days at home. A special thank you to Theresa Butland and Joan Downey of Gibbons' Ambulance Service for their gentle and compassionate care of Dad on his last night at home. To the staff at the Palliative Care unit, we are thankful for the care, patience and expertise provided while making Dad comfortable and at ease during his final days. Thank you to George and Jean Gibbons and Josephine Squires of Gibbons' Funeral Home, for their respectful filling of Dad's final wishes during a time when there are so many restrictions in place. To all our family and friends: your prayers, messages, calls and meals did not go unnoticed and were appreciated beyond words. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private Mass and burial will be held. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Parish. To express condolences online, please visit our website at www.gibbonsfuneral.ca "In a world where heroes come and go, Well God just took the only one I know. A born storyteller, he enjoyed regaling family and friends with tales of his many adventures and misadventures through the years. A great lover of hockey and politics, Kevin was always willing to discuss, and argue about, either topic at length, at any time or place. He found particular joy in being a grandfather, taking every opportunity to spend time with his granddaughter Rowan, the apple of his eye. Every school concert, ball game or recital, he was there to cheer her on, beaming with pride. Rowan will greatly miss the chats with her Poppy. A voracious reader and lover of puzzles, it was unusual to find Kevin without a book in his hand, whether it be a classic western or a collection of crosswords. Wherever he is, he's probably staring off in the distance, trying to figure out 42 down. Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of his life will take place in Point Lance at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Diabetes Canada. Winnie was an active member of the St. Lawrence Anglican Church and a proud member with the Portugal Cove-St. Philip's Lion's Club. She was renowned for her volunteerism and zest for life. She was an avid baker and gardener, and she had a wonderful social life. She will be sadly missed by her friends at the many card games, dances, and activities they attended at her church, the 50+ club, and within the community. Winnie loved shopping and could easily be found at the local markets and craft fairs. We must smile at the memories of a life well lived, and loved, by a woman who truly made the most of every day. May she be our example, in this time of sadness, that life is beautiful and there is much to be grateful for. Virtual service will be held Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 2 pm (NL), which is viewable on the St. Lawrence Anglican Church Facebook page. Donations can be made to St. Lawrence Anglican Church in Portugal Cove. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.carnells.com

We will continue to celebrate Marge's life in all the things she enjoyed: A walk on Cape Island Beach, her flower gardens in bloom every summer, and dinner every Sunday surrounded by her family. As one of her good friends said: All that's in my head is "He stopped loving her today" and those words now take on a different meaning because he will never stop loving her today, nor will I. Due to COVID restrictions, a private viewing for immediate family will take place, and in keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated and some of her ashes buried with her parents in New Wes Valley. The family moved to Port aux Basques when his father Walter took a new teaching position, later becoming Mayor and then MHA for the district of LaPoile. After completing High School there Jim attended Memorial University where he graduated with a BA, B/Ed. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing the Officer Training Program and receiving his Commission in the Canadian Army. He is a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. During the ensuing years Jim was Supervising Principal of several schools in the Stephenville area before becoming Principal of the new Integrated High School. He was President of the Stephenville Kinsmen Club, Founding President of the Stephenville Safety Council, Founding member of the Port aux Basques Kinsmen Club and an Executive member of the NL Teachers Association. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff on VP3, Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion for the comfort and care provided to Jim over the last 3 years and the compassion shown to our family. HOLLETT Thomas Edward Passed peacefully away on Friday, March 5, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, Thomas Edward Hollett, known to everyone who knew him as Ed. Predeceased by his father Snowden, mother Laura, and sister Lydia (Belle), father-in-law Austin and mother-in-law Jessie Collett, brother-in-law George Collett, and sisters-in-law Marie Upshall, Mollie Collett, and Passey Collett. Leaving to mourn his wife of 60 years, Madonna, son Edward and daughter-in-law Ann, daughter Nancy and partner Donnie, beloved grandchildren Philip and Emma Hollett, brothers-in-law Charlie Collett, Calvin Collett and wife Vera, Louis Collett, Frank Collett and wife Irene, and Ron Upshall, sisters-in-law Irene Penney and husband Dave, and Eileen Collett, special friend Cathy Dyke, and wide circles of family and friends. Ed loved whatever he did and threw himself into all of it with enthusiasm and with his wicked sense of humour. That's how people will remember Ed Hollett. Ed enjoyed a long career with the Department of Health in special assistance programs and transportation. For more than 30 years, he was a percussionist and drum major with the band of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. He coached in the provincial public service hockey league for 25 years. He gave it all up in the 1990s and added golf to his list of favourite pass-times along with hunting, fishing, and bowling. Eventually, golf replaced them all. Ed played with a regular crowd but would pick up a round with anyone who needed to fill out a foursome. He wasn't particular, regaling the family with tales of who he'd played with that day. Ed loved his family most of all and showed it every day. With Madonna, Ed helped raise his grandchildren. To say he adored them would not do him justice. Together, Ed and Madonna also cared for his mother and sister and Madonna's parents until each of them passed away. Madonna did the same for Ed. Their love continues on. Ed's family is grateful for the care he received from the staff of Pleasantview Towers 4 North West. Their caring made the last years of his life as comfortable as possible. The medical and nursing staff of 4 South B, Health Sciences Centre made Ed's final hours peaceful and painless. He did not know them but their care in the midst of their hectic jobs greatly eased a family's grief. The family will arrange a celebration of Ed's life when times are better. Those who wish to do so may make a donation in Ed's memory to the Alzheimer's Society or the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Regimental Advisory Council. KENNEY Robin Elizabeth (Kuehn) It is with fragile hearts that we announce the passing of the ever-loved Robin Elizabeth Kenny (nee Kuehn). Beginning her trip of a lifetime earlier than anticipated (aged 58), she departed peacefully in true Robin fashion, during the early hours of St. Patrick's Day (we all know that she loved to celebrate). At home surrounded by her mother, Sally Clouston Johnson, and daughters, Hannah Maggie and Leah Holly, it is safe to say that she was sent off with love. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, throughout the years Robin made her way to St. John's, touching the lives of each person she encountered along the way. As her sister Deanna said, "Robin loved with her whole heart, gave the best hugs, and could out-laugh anyone." Robin has called many places "home" throughout her lifetime, and will be missed by many world-wide. Notability, in Halifax she leaves behind her brothers John Richard (Rosemary) Kuehn and David (Heather) Johnson; nieces Beth (Steven), Sarah and Laura; nephews Peter and Ben. Throughout the rest of Canada, she leaves behind her brother Darroch Johnson; sister Lois (Robert) Dejardins; aunt Donna Clouston; uncle Peter (Pearl) Clouston; nephews James, Paul (Natasha) and Chris; niece Alexis. South of the border, Robin leaves behind her father John Carl (Juanita) Kuehn; brothers Mike (Jennifer) Kuehn and Tim (Heidi) Kuehn; sister Deanna (Cris) Duncan; aunt Sylvia (Robert) Bean; uncles Edwin Kuehn and Richard Kuehn; nieces Elizabeth and Ashley; nephews Dylan, Keegan and Karter. Robin also leaves behind cousins all over, notability Cindy Clouston, Donald Clouston, Robert Bean, Laura Yu, and Christina Bean. She leaves behind many special friends; her best friends and kindred spirits, Joseph Bourgeois and Paula Giovannini; good friends Roma Robinson, Peter Ivany, Phonse Barry and Tim Froude. Robin is predeceased by her step-father Paul Johnson, sister Heather Johnson and niece Dianna Johnson. Thank-you to all of the health-care professionals who assisted Robin and her family throughout the course of her illness. Although the COVID-19 pandemic prevents us from currently gathering, it is our hopes that sometime soon we will be able to properly celebrate her life. In honour of Robin, you can buy yourself a pair of shoes (in every colour if you really like them), dance around your kitchen to ABBA, or donate to Pancreatic Cancer Canada (PCC). He worked for CN on the "coastal boats" for a time, before becoming the owner & operator of Quidi Vidi Confectionary, where he was a well-known part of East End life for over 20 years. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain, He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered "peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

THOMPSON Mary August 5, 1936 - March 1, 2021 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mary Constance (Royle) Thompson who died peacefully at Kenny's Pond Retirement Residence on March 1st. Born in St. John's in 1936, Mary grew up in a loving family with parents George and Bridget and her three adoring brothers John, Bob, and Pat who have remained so close all these years. If there was a match made in heaven, it came to life when Mary met and later married the love of her life, Douglas Thompson in 1958, who together would go on to raise five children in a happy home on Linden Place. Those hectic days offer so many precious memories largely as a result of Mary's devotion to family, including her genuine qualities to heal, comfort, encourage, and laugh. Time with family was always her priority, which often included her "extended" family made up of her children's friends; regulars at Linden Place, who were always made to feel at home. Mary and Doug also cherished their own many great friendships over the years, all of whom filled our house with stories and laughter on countless occasions. Included is the Friday night card games with the Collins and Powers which went on for over 40 years without hardly missing a beat. Also are fond memories of fun and laughter with decades old friends the O'Gradys, Waddens and so many others through the years. Later in life as her children moved out (and some away) Mary's insuperable bond with us all made it impossible to move too far from the nest or leave it for very long. She was the glue to keep us all tightly connected. This was the start of frequent visits and the annual Thompson reunion which brought the clan together for memories that can never be forgotten. That bond only strengthened with the arrival of Mary's grandchildren who she loved dearly and loved being around. Mary had a truly special way about her which made everyone around her feel comforted and better about themselves. Her grandchildren would constantly remark about the way she greeted those she came into contact with….it was always "my darling", "my love" or "God love ya". She had such a gentle soul and was always worried more about other people than herself. Her great outlook on life and constant smile was infectious to all of us. So "God love ya", Mary Thompson ….(and we know he does), as you have left behind a legacy of love, family, and kindness that will be remembered always. Mary is predeceased by husband Douglas (2017) and leaves to mourn children Anne (John), Michael (Susan), Douglas (Li), Danny (Bernie), and John (Sandy) along with grandchildren Katie, Sarah, Jonathan, Jack, Christopher, Laura, Patrick, Daniel, William and her brothers John (Marjory, dec.), Bob (Diane) and Pat (Therese). Mary will also be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She is resting at Carnell's Funeral Home for on-line visitation only. A celebration of her life for all the goodness Mary brought to the world will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please buy a bouquet for yourself or a loved one and think of our Mom who would so like you to enjoy their beauty. Or simply cherish those around you with kindness and compassion as our Mother always did. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation for the incredible caregivers at Kenny's Pond who have cared for Mom like family over the past several years. Doug will be dearly missed by the Curran Family of Sunny Hill: Wilf, Janet, Chris, Heather, John, their spouses, children and grandchildren, who all loved him like a grandfather and made sure that he was part of every family gathering. Doug loved children, always making time for them and making each one feel special. In turn, he was special to each of them. He will be forever loved by all the "little ones" near and far who touched his heart and made him smile. Doug was a gentleman; he loved a Friday night party with music and good cheer. Although more recently his age prevented him from being the last one to leave such gatherings, he always made an appearance and ended his night with a little song to entertain the crowd. Doug loved to go "up the shore" for an afternoon drive. Thank you to Kenneth Hynes, his constant companion and friend for making that trip with him so many times. The nightly visits, friendship and being there at a moments' notice when called meant so much to Doug and to us, his family.
