Carew, Douglas J.
From - The Evening Telegram, St. John's, Nfld, Abt. Mar 1, 1996
Passed peacefully away at the Grace Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer, Douglas J. Carew, age 49 years. Predeceased by his parents, Austin and Mary Ellen Carew. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife, Tammy, one son, Austin; two daughters, Amanda and Sarah; one brother Tommy (Margaret), Cape Broyle, three nephews: Paul and Michael, Halifax, Damien, Cape Broyle; special brother-in-law, Kippy Hayden and friend Harold Brennan; and a large circle of relatives and Friends. Resting at Ryan`s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Visiting hours, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. s Funeral following mass of resurrection from Immaculate Conception Church, Cape Broyle, 11 a.m. Monday, March 4th. Internment in the R.C. Cemetery Cape Broyle.

Casey, Stella (nee Saturley)
Passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, March 3rd, 1996, Stella Casey (nee Saturley), age 87 years. Predeceased by her husband William in 1969 and her son Peter in 1987; brothers; Jack and Vince; and beloved sister Mae Saturley. Leaving to mourn with fond and cherished memories, her four daughters; Carmel (Kevin MacDonald), Eileen (Walter Tucker), Brenda (Bill Grouchy), Maureen (Vic Parsons); and her three sons; Ron (Eleanor), Bill (Ann), and Jim (Maureen); and her daughter-in-law Gertrude Casey; 28 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; Agnes and Angela Saturley and Joan Martin; and brothers-in-law; Gerald Casey; and a number of nieces and nephews; and many special friends including John and Doreen Cardoulis. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Funeral will take place with Mass of Christian Burial from St. Pius X Church on Wednesday, March 6th, 1996 at 9:45 am.. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Caul, Mary Bridget
Passed away at the Grace Hospital on Sunday, March 3rd, 1996, Mary Bridget Caul. She was born on November 26, 1919 and died at the age of 76. Remains will be resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral Mass from the Basilica on Tuesday, March 5th, 1996, at 9:30 am with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. She will be deeply missed by her son Bob, his wife, Geraldine (nee Jeddore); and granddaughters; Lindsay and Ashley; plus many family and friends.

Cranford, Clarence Frederick
Passed peacefully away at home on March 18th, 1996, in the presence of his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer, Clarence Frederick Cranford, in his 84th year. Veteran of Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit (World War 11), and retired heavy equipment operator with St. John's City Council. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife Edith (Newhook); five daughters; Betty (Boyd George), Mount Pearl, Norma (Fred Tizzzard), Patsy (Walter Barrington), Judy Cranford-Langdon; and special niece Joan (Mike Haire), all of St. John's; three sons; Cliff (June), Chamberlains, Fred (Mary), Roaches Line and Clarence Jr. (Lorraine), Brigus Junction; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers; Ralph and Howard; sisters; Rita Rose, Jenny Higdon, Rossanna Martin and Hilda Higdon; also a large circle of relatives and friends; and a special friend Dynelle Groves. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 10 am - 10 pm Wednesday and 10 am – 12 noon Thursday. Funeral Service 2 pm Thursday, March 21st, 1996 from Barrett's Chapel. Interment at the Field of Honour, Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center.

Gilbert, Samuel A.
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. W.H. Newhook Community Health Center on Sunday, March 10th, 1996 of Green's Harbour, Trinity Bay, aged 52 years. Predeceased by parents Newman and Emma. Leaving to mourn with loving memories Brenda; daughter Linda March (Keith); son Scott (girlfriend Renee George); two brothers; Stewart (Mona), Philip (Dale), both of Hopeall; three sisters; Margaret Day (Cecil), Old shop, Mary Higdon (Heber), New Harbour, Georgina Gilbert (Mike Dubois), Orleans, Ontario; also a large circle of other family and friends. The Funeral Service was held from Faith United Church, Green's Harbour on Wednesday, March 13th, 1996 at 2 pm.. Interment followed at Hopeall First United Church Cemetery, Hopeall.

PENDERGAST, Kevin
Passed peacefully away at home on March 3, 1996, Kevin Pendergast, age 67 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Gertrude; son Ken; daughters: Joan Bryan, Helen (Sid Walsh), Nancy (James Feltham), Carol Scott and Sandra; six beloved grandchildren: Lee, Keith, Jennifer, Shelley, Christopher and William; and special niece Marie Marshall. At Kevin's request, there will be no wake or funeral. The family will receive friends at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday. A Memorial Service will be held at Barrett's Chapel at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 1996. Donations in his memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation.

WOODFORD, Gertrude A.
Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home on March 7, 1996, surrounded by her loving family, and three days before her 85th birthday, Gertrude A. Woodford (nee Congdon), beloved wife of the late James G. (Gerry) Woodford. She was dearly loved and her strength and guidance will be sadly missed by her five daughters and their families: Elizabeth and Edward (Sandy) LaCour (St. John's), Patricia and David Windsor (Riverview, N.B.), Frankie and Phil Hanley (St. John's), Barbara and Don Bursey (St. John's, Gerri Woodford and Peter Schoettle (Toronto, Ont.); 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also lovingly remembered by her sister, Mrs. Genevieve Mahoney (St. John's); and her brother Patrick Congdon (Kingsville, Ont.); sisters-in-law: Eva Congdon, Joan Congdon, Frances Congdon, Lucy Coady, Gertrude Woodford; and many other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, from Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Funeral will take placed at St. Teresa's Church on Saturday, March 9, 1996 with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Her last days were lovingly attended by the caring staff of St. Patrick's Mercy Home, whose contribution to her life will always be remembered and appreciated by her family.
"To live in the hearts of those you love is not to die," and her primary legacy - her five daughters are the women they are today because of the woman they were privileged to call "Mother."
