BISHOP, Peter Donald - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center on Monday, March 9, 1998, Peter Donald Bishop, Foxtrap aged 65 years. Predeceased by his father Churnside Bishop, 1985. Leaving to mourn his wife Victoria; one son Gary and wife Susan; one daughter Valerie Whalen and husband Gerard; eight grandchildren; his mother Mary Bishop, Paradise; four sisters: Madeline Sturge, Mount Pearl, Emma Crane, Toronto, Betty Wilson and husband William, Paradise, Marie Rixon and husband Jack, Paradise; also other relatives and friends. Resting at the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews until noon Wednesday. Funeral to take place on Wednesday, March 11th at 2 p.m. at the United Church, Topsail. Interment at the United Church Cemetery, Topsail. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic or the Topsail United Church.

CHAFE, Warwick Maxwell - Passed peacefully away at his residence at Three Island Pond on March 7th, 1998, Warwick Maxwell Chafe. Age 72 years. Member of SUF Topsail #41. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Stella; sister Doris (Ray) Pottle; sisters-in-law: Francis (Nick) Arns and Jean Squires; as well as nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends; special friend Ralph Kearley. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 1081 Topsail Rd. from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. - 12 Noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. - 12 Noon Tuesday. Funeral Service 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10th, 1998 from Topsail Anglican Church with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Topsail. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are being gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to The Nfld. Heart And Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of one's choice.

Crowley, Dr. Joseph
Passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, March 2nd, 1998 Dr. Joseph Crowley, age 76 years. Predeceased by his daughter Kathleen in 1988. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 49 years, Anne; and five children; Paddy (Loly), Halifax, Brenda Smith (Wayne), St. John’s, Joanne Assini (Bill). London, Ontario, John (Pam), Ottawa, Sheilagh, Halifax. Also leaving to mourn ten loving grandchildren; Liam and Natalie Crowley, Laura, Anna and Megan Smith, Joe, Emily and Jane Assini, Alana and Lesley Crowley; one sister Margery, London, England; and many other family members and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation will take place on Wednesday and Thursday from 2- 4 pm and 7-9 pm.. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 6th, 1998 at 10:30 am from Mary Queen of Peace Parish with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Epilepsy Association.

DUFF, Valentine
Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on Sunday, March 1, 1998, Valentine Duff; former Ranger and Grocer. Aged 82 years. Leaving to mourn four sons: Val (Betty), Wabush, Brian (Bernice), Moncton, Dave (Connie), Bob (Carol), St. John's; three daughters: Patsy (Fred Koch), Brenda (Terry Trainor), British Columbia, Maureen (John King), North Carolina; and their mother Anne Duff; grandchildren: Jason, Cathy, Kim, Julie, Joanne, Brian, Andrya, Megan, Christopher, Jill and Jennifer Duff, Jeff Koch, Shannon and Connor Trainor, Dawn and Mark King; sisters: Joan (Andy Murphy), Edna Murphy, Betty (Bernard Prowse); brothers: Jim (Lene), Kevin (Noreen), Gerry (Rose); sister-in-law Betty Duff; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Funeral Mass 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Mary 5, 1998 from St. Teresa's Church, Mundy Pond. Lawlor, Josephine Mary (nee Whalen)
Passed away at her residence on Monday, March 16th, 1998. Leaving to mourn her husband Ambrose; ten daughters; Margaret, Betty, Mary, Linda, Josephine, Patsy, Shirley, Sheila, Nellie and Gail; four sons; Paul, Vince, Doug and Ambrose; 43 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister Frances Sharpe; brother Albert Whalen; and other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 1081 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl. Funeral Mass 10:30 am Wednesday, March 18th, 1998 from Holy Family Church. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Topsail.

Oates, George Frederick Passed away at Vancouver Island, British Columbia, on March 30, 1998, George Frederick Oates of Naramata, British Columbia, formerly of Freshwater, Carbonear, and St. John's, age 80 years. Later deceased; his wife Mary, November 11, 1998. Leaving to mourn one daughter, Pauline (Trevor) Jones, Nanaimo, British Columbia; two sons; Walter and Gary (Dorthy), both of St. John's; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; also a large number of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service for George Frederick Oates will take place on Saturday, September 18, 1999, at 2 pm at the United Church and Cemetery, Freshwater, Carbonear. Reid, Hilda Mary

Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Monday, March 9th, 1998, after a brief illness. Leaving to mourn sisters; Myrtle Steele and Eliza Cranford; brother John Reid; sisters-in-law; Jean Reid, Pearl Reid; brother-in-law Art Cranford; aunt Marion Gosse; special friend Mary Tizzard. Also sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 2-4 pm and 7-9 on Tuesday and at Warren's Funeral Home, Dildo after 2 pm Wednesday. Funeral Service 2 pm Thursday from All Saints Anglican Church, Dildo. Interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Dildo. Flowers gratefully declined. Rose, Nellie (nee Mitchell)
Passed peacefully away at the Grace General Hospital on March 7, 1998, Nellie Rose. Age 82 years. Leaving to mourn daughters; Pearl (husband Jack Clancey), St. John's, Marie (husband Kevin Muggridge), Winter Brook, B. Bay, Hazel (husband Francis Everson), St. John's and Gladys (husband Thomas Power), Flatrock; sons; Frederick (wife Helen), Portugal Cove, Reginald (wife Jessie), Old Bonaventure, T. Bay, Merviell (fiancee Patricia), Portugal Cove and Wayne (wife Marilyn), Portugal Cove; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Bertha Bryant, Hickman's Harbour, T. Bay; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue after 2 pm on Monday. Windsor, Doris (nee Elliott)
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on Friday, March 6th, 1998, in her 84th year. Leaving to mourn her husband of 65 years, Tom; children; Helen (Douglas) Kaulbach, Florida, Edward (Faye), Vancouver, Keith (Ann), St. John’s, Beverly (Robert) Candow, Whitehorse; grandchildren; Kristal, Peter, Michael, Vaughn, Susan, Nancy, Bradley and Robin; great-grandchildren; Adam and Alex. She will be missed by other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. Visiting hours 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Sunday and Monday. Funeral Service 11 am Tuesday, March 10th, 1998 from Barrett’s Chapel. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
