15, 2005, Chandrakant Deviprasad Acharya of Ottawa, Ontario, formerly
of St. John's and Janeway Children's Hospital in his 67th year.
Son of Dayagauri and the late Deviprasad Acharya. Beloved husband and best
friend of Virbala. Loving father of Sangeeta Acharya Chander (Sanjeev) and
Sonal Acharya. Cherished grandfather of Neilesh, Nikesh and Shailen Chander.
Also survived by brothers Vipin (Meena), Arvind (Pramila) Surendra (Meenaxi)

BAIRD, Edgar Albert - Passed peacefully away in his home in Gander on May
1, 2005, Edgar Baird, age 93. Predeceased by his wife Mary Irene Gordon
(Snartt). Edgar was born on May 28, 1911 in Campbellton, Newfoundland, the
son of William Wallace and Louisa Isabella (Peyton) Baird. Also predeceased
by his sisters: Evelyn Gruchy and Margaret Huff and his brother: Temple. Remembered
fondly by his children: William (Cathy), Jane (Richard Sharp), John and Mary
(Rick Suley); his sister: Gwen Monk of Kingston, Ontario and two dog friends:
Monty and Maria. Edgar led an adventurous life from an early age and was a
well known businessman and community leader with a passion for Newfoundland's
woodlands. A Superintendent of the Newfoundland Forestry Unit, Edgar led a
battalion of 960 foresters to Scotland in 1940. In 1941 he signed up with the
Royal Air Force and rose to the rank of Flight Lieutenant. After the war Edgar
returned to Newfoundland with his new bride and embarked on a successful career
in various businesses, including bush flying, hunting camps and lumbering.
He was the chair of Gander's first Local Improvement District, which laid the
foundation for one of the province's most successful municipalities. In 1961,
he was a volunteer fire boss during the great forest fire that devastated Bonavista
North. In his retirement years, he focused his energies to promoting sustainable
management of Newfoundland's woodlands. In September 2004, Edgar was awarded
the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of his contributions.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 2 PM at St. Martins Anglican
Cathedral in Gander. Visitors will be welcomed at Stacey's Funeral Home in
Gander on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations
can be made to the Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest in Gander.

CONNOLLY, Father W. Bartlett (Barry), S.J. - At Rene Goupil
House, Pickering, Ontario (Jesuit Infirmary) on Monday, May 16th, 2005 in
his 88th year and 66th year in religious life. Father
was born in Vancouver, B.C. on May 24, 1917. Son of the late William Connolly
and Eileen Bartlett. Predeceased by his sister Madeline O'Dea and survived
by his two sisters Hildegarde Wyrzykowski and Sr. Margaret Connolly R.S.C.J.
and many nephews and nieces. He entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) on October
5, 1939 and was Ordained on June 22, 1952. He spent 30 years working in the
education of youth at Campion High School, Regina; St. Paul's High School,
Winnipeg; Loyola High School, Montreal and was one of the founding Jesuits
of Gonzaga High School, St. John's, Newfoundland. Father Connolly was associated
with athletics at Loyola High School, Montreal and St. Paul's High School and
was treasurer for a 10 year period of the St. James-Assiniboine Athletic Conference
in Winnipeg. This association was recognized in the naming of the Connolly
Field at St. Paul's. Father also worked in Halifax; was assistant Pastor at
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Toronto; Regis College, Toronto and Pedro Arrupe
Residence, Toronto. In 2004 he moved to Rene Goupil House, Jesuit Infirmary,
Pickering. Friends may call at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel,
467 Sherbourne St. (south of Wellesley) on Wednesday, May 18th from

at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB., at 62 years of age.
Lovingly remembered by his wife Marie (nee Hunt) of 39 years; daughter Peggy
(Pat) Dugan, St. Albert, AB; son Greg (Lori) of Calgary, AB; three grandchildren
whom he adored, Shannon, Erin, and Ava; two sisters, Joanne (Karl) Tonn and

FRANCIS, Harvey Gilbert - August 26, 1917 - May 17, 2005.
Passed peacefully away on May 17, 2005 at Western Regional
Health Care Centre, Corner Brook, age 87 years. Mr. Francis was born at Clarkes
Head, Gander Bay and spent most of his life living in Glenwood. He was a retired
Wildlife and Fisheries Warden and World War II veteran. He will be sadly missed
by his wife of 62 years, Laura; daughter Rosemary (Lester Sparkes) and son
Llewelyn (Sandra Bessey) and a large circle of relatives and friends. Mr. Francis
was a gentle, quiet and proud man. He fondly recalled his countless trips navigating
the Gander River and was happy to share memories with those lucky enough to
listen. Funeral services were held Friday, May 20, 2005 at St. Andrew's Anglican
Church, Glenwood with interment at the Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,

HISCOCK, Edgar Lewis "Lewis" - 68,
Dartmouth. Passed away at home May 24, 2005. Born February
17, 1937 in St. John's, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Edgar and
Daphne Hiscock. Lewis joined the staff of Mammy's Bakery, Newfoundland and
worked his way up to Sales Manager. In 1976 he took a transfer and moved
his family to Dartmouth and worked as Regional Sales Manager for Wonder Bread
and then Bens Bakery in Nova Scotia. Lewis also tended bar at Windsor Park
Officer's mess until his retirement. Lewis was a devoted husband, father
and grandfather and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hockey and darts. Lewis is
survived by his wife of 47 years, Catherine (Kay); sons: Paul (Kim), Dartmouth,
Tony (Susan), Dartmouth, Wayne (Beth), Truro; daughter Cathy (Dennis), Moncton;
brother Edward (Grace), Clarenville, Newfoundland; sisters: Peggy Cave, St.
John's, Newfoundland, Daphne (Ray) Allhiser, Angels Camp, California and
several nieces and nephews. "Poppy" will be missed very
much by his grandchildren: Justin and Kaylee Hiscock, Samantha Hiscock, Jacob

MCGEE, Father Francis (Frank) M., S..J. - At Rene Goupil House, Pickering,
Ontario (Jesuit Infirmary), on Sunday, May 22, 2005, in his
78th year and 56th year in religious life. Father was born in Montreal
on December 13, 1927. Son of James John McGee and Margaret F. Carmody. Predeceased
by his brother Robert (Carole Corbin), and survived by brothers: John, James,
Gerald (Nancy Hogan) and sister: Rita (Joe Malone). He entered the Society
of Jesus (Jesuits) on September 7, 1949 and was Ordained on June 18, 1961.
Father McGee worked in education of youth at Campion High School, Regina and
St. Paul's High School, Winnipeg. Father was assistant Pastor at St. Piux X
parish in St. John's, Newfoundland, Pastor at Cape Croker and Wikwemikong,
both in the Manitoulin District. Father also worked in various missions at

away on Thursday,
April 7th, 2005, in Ottawa, Ontario, after a valiant fight with cancer,
Dorothy I. Moore, in her 96th year. Predeceased her husband
Chesley; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Edna Moore; sister-in-law Stella
Moore; and brother-in-law Dermot Hurley. Left, with wonderful and loving memories
are her sister, Margaret Hurley (Ottawa, ON); nieces: Alison Moore (Ottawa,
ON), and Shelagh Mathers (Picton, ON); nephew Patrick Hurley (Abbottsford,
BC); 5 grand nephews; 3 great-grand nieces and many other special friends and
relatives. Special thanks to the staff at Barrhaven Manor and Dr. Virginia

SLANEY, Elizabeth (nee Leawood) - Passed peacefully away after a six-month
battle with cancer on May 2, 2005. Leaving to mourn are daughters:
Cindy (Stephen Miller) and Shirley (Glen Philpott); sons: Roger, Chris (Beth
Mijares), David, Daniel Curtis (Connie). She is fondly remembered by her grandchildren:
Deanne, Charli, Emily-Jane, Chloe-Joy, Myles, Suzanne, Haleigh and Colin. Betty
will be greatly missed by her brother Chesley (Doris Duffett); sister Gloria
(Jim Roy) and special friend Paul Davison. She also leaves behind a large circle
of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by mother Lucy and sisters:
Marjorie and Ruth. Betty's cremation has already take place and a memorial
will be held in her birthplace and childhood home of Britannia at a later date.
Special thanks to the staff of KI East Palliative Care Unit of Sunnybrook and
Women's College Hospital, Toronto, ON for their great care and respect, especially
in the darkest hours of her illness. Betty was a wonderful mother, aunt and
friend. Her door was always open to her family, her friends, and the friends
of her family. She prepared many a meal and always cooked more than enough
in case someone dropped by or was dragged along. She spent every Christmas
for the past few years extending her great culinary skills to the homeless
of Toronto. She listened to problems, offered advice and made us laugh. She
held a special place in our lives and always will. Our hearts are sad and our
souls feel empty without her. Donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian
Cancer Society or the Sunnybrook and Women's College Hospital Fund.

STOKES, Perpetua O'Brien (Pat) - Age 85, passed away peacefully at her home
in Conley's Chapel Village, Lewes, Delaware on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, surrounded
by her family following a brief illness. Mrs. Stokes was born July 28, 1919
in St. John's, Newfoundland. She emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1939
and became a naturalized citizen in 1944. Throughout World War II, she remained
in the U.S. and later married Elmer Stokes, a staff sergeant in the USMC. Her
favorite pastimes included going to the horse races at Dover, Harrington and
Ocean City, family trips to Atlantic City, gardening and doing crossword puzzles
with her loving pets Slazenger, Shadow, Sassy, and Summer in constant attendance.
Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Margaret O'Brien,
her brothers Maurice, Michael, James, David, Dennis, Jack, William and Patrick,
and her sisters Bridget Kavanagh and Mary Gosse, all of St. John's, Newfoundland.
Mrs. Stokes is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Elmer S. Stokes,
son Robert Loud and wife Penny of Steuben, Maine, son Buster Loud and wife
Diane of Port Charlotte, Florida, son Christian Stokes and wife Kasey of Dover,
daughter Priscilla Clark and husband Robert of Washington, D.C., daughter Barbara
Nielsen of Wilmington, daughter Ingrid Stokes of Lewes, daughter Alice Doeppe
and husband Jerry of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and daughter Mitzi Allen of Bosque,
New Mexico. She was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her devoted friend
and companion Kathy McBride. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held
at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Melson's Funeral Home, Long Neck Chapel,

SULLIVAN, Ronald Robert - It is with
great sadness that the family of the late Ronald Robert Sullivan announce
his passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor on the 4th of
May 2005 at the age of 83. Ronald was a member of the Royal Navy
1940-1945, past president in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 (1979),
and past president CPU Local 88. Ron retired from Abitibi Price in 1984.
Predeceased by his wife Ruby (Goulding) on Sept. 29, 2002; mother and father,

THORNHILL, Carmel (Ryan) - With regret, the family announce the passing of
Carmel Ann (Ryan) Thornhill on Monday, May 2, 2005,
surrounded by her family at the L.A. Miller Center. She faced her illness each
day with courage. Leaving to mourn are husband, Edward; daughters: Heather
(Jim Pankovich), Edmonton and Pamela (David Snow), St. John's; her precious
grandchildren: Malcolm and baby Heidi Snow will truly miss her. Also left with
special memories are sisters-in-law: June Chafe, St. John's, Jean Ryan, Placentia

WHITTLE, Adelia Mary (Hynes) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's May
5, 2005. Adelia Mary (Hynes) Whittle was born on September 27, 1926. This picture
was taken in Jacques Fontaine, next to her home. The waters of Fortune Bay
in the background is where she learned to swim, go with her father to take
up salmon nets. She loved to sing and laugh as the boats putt-putted on the
bay. She was a sweet little girl who was loved by everyone and was affectionately
called Dealie. The man who became her husband was in his mother's kitchen when
he heard that Aunt Lizzie Hynes, as every woman was called aunt in those days,
and they said they were calling her Adelia. When she was 17 and he 25 they
were married. Many times she looked out the bay to watch him come with his
dory full of fish. She often said all you needed was God and your motor boat.
She is predeceased by her husband Pius; son Ray and granddaughter Jessie Routh.
She leaves to mourn sons: Fred, Anthony, Thomas (Kathleen), Brendan (Janet),
Clem (Dallas), Alvin (Sherry); daughters: Evelyn (Doug), Ellen (Sandy), Carmel

48-49.- Passed away Sunday May 1, 2005 in St. John's NL, 80, from idiopathic
pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease of which there is no known cause or cure.
Survived by loving wife Jean Drury Young Wilson, daughters: Joan Wilson Pike
(Greg), Corner Brook, NL., Nancy Wilson Voegeli (Fred), Shad Bay, N.S., sons:
James Wilson (Michele), Windsor, N.S., George Wilson (Joyce), Perth, Australia,
12 grandchildren, sister: Rosamund Sangwine, Walnut Creek, C.A., sister-in-law:
Jean Wilson, Bellevue, WA., three nieces and four nephews. Don was a very,
very generous sharer of his knowledge, experience, time and wealth for the
good of all. His company, Avalon Construction & Eng. Ltd., did work all
over Newfoundland and Labrador for 40 years. As a young man, he was a very
competitive skuller and canoeist in Dartmouth, N.S. He was a highly respected
philatelist in Canada. A world traveler. Cremation has taken place; interment
at a later date. A memorial service will be held at the West End Baptist
Church Tuesday, May 3 at 2 p.m. No flowers please, but donations may be made
to a charity of one's choice.

WOODFINE, Margaret B. - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital
on Friday, May 13, 2005, Margaret B. Woodfine of Northern Bay, age 86 years.
Predeceased by husband: Alexander; two sisters: Annie and Winnifred; one brother:
Michael. Leaving to mourn three daughters: Anne (Don) Hogan, Mount Pearl, Maureen
(Allan) Oliver and Joan (Lester) Milley, both of Burnt Point; five sons: William
John (Doris), Carbonear, Andrew (Chris), Goulds, Paul, Mount Pearl, Alphonsus
(Mary) and Edwin, both of Northern Bay; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren;
one sister: Mary George, Carbonear; also a large number of other relatives
and friends. Resting at NOEL'S FUNERAL HOME, MAIN HIGHWAY, WESTERN BAY and
from where the funeral will take place on Monday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. Mass
to follow at 11:00 a.m. from Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery,
Northern Bay. In lieu of flowers; as an expression of sympathy, donations in
her memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. Visitation hours
