SCOTT, Greg Joseph - It is with sadness in our hearts that
we announce the passing of Greg Joseph Scott, 46, Bridgewater,
on November
13, 2005, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, N.S., with
his beloved wife, Denise, holding his hand and heart. Greg was a former resident
of St. John's where he had many friends who will miss him dearly. He fought
a short but intense battle with pancreatic cancer, the same cancer that claimed
his mother seven years ago. Born in Chatham, N.B., he was a son of Albert Scott,
Saint John, N.B., and the late Irene (Jardine) Scott. Besides his father, he
is survived by his wife, the former Denise Craft; daughter, Amanda, at home;
brothers, Mark Scott, Tim (Cathy) Scott; sisters, Lori Scott, Gail (Eric) Walsh,
all of Saint John. Greg graduated from Oromocto High School in 1978 and was,
for several years, the lead scorer on their hockey team. Greg's initial employment
in the automobile industry was in St. John's, NL, where he spent five years.
In 1987 he moved to Halifax and began his association with the O'Regan's. In
1992, he was promoted to General Manager of O'Regan's Toyota, Hyundai and Subaru
in Bridgewater, and had since served as an active member of the Nova Scotia
Automobile Association. Greg brought passion and intelligence to the industry
and was always proud to be associated with the O'Regan's name. It is difficult
to describe in words on a page the depth of Greg's character. He was a great
boss who led by example and formed loyal bonds because of his integrity. He
loved his parents and siblings, and even though distance separated them over
the years, he spoke of them with pride and looked forward to their visits.
Greg was an incredible friend to many - his door was always open and his house
felt like home. He loved to share a good meal, which he often prepared, a fine
glass of wine, lively conversation, and always a decadent dessert. He enjoyed
golf and the accompanying social aspects, but even though Greg was a "guy's
guy", he had a definite understanding of the sensibilities of a woman.
This was one of the reasons he was such a fantastic husband to Denise. In public,
their relationship was not flamboyant, but those around them could sense the
strength, depth and truth of their love. Greg was a devoted father to Amanda.
Many dads know the sensation of being "wrapped around their daughter's
fingers",
but Greg took it a step further. He took her out to breakfast on Saturdays;
was one of a few dads to participate in "Music for Young Children", and was
definitely one of a few fathers who could still, on their own buy their nine
year old daughter clothes that she actually liked. Because of this bond, many
of us see Greg when we look in Amanda's eyes. There is something missing in
the lives that Greg touched because of his passing but there are also many
lasting legacies for having known him. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Msgr. William
Wamboldt officiating. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or Canadian
Cancer Society. On-line condolences may be made at: www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
