BAIRD Elmo Bartlett 1920-2020 On November 4th, the most wonderful man left this world. Elmo Baird, of Twillingate, born to Harold and Dinah (Manuel) Baird on March 7, 1920. At the age of 19 when WW11 broke out, Elmo was on the first troop ship out of St. John's, arriving in Liverpool, UK to work with the Newfoundland Forestry Unit. Although he loved Scotland, Northern England and Forestry work, he felt he could do more for the war effort by joining one of Britain's military forces and he left the forestry after a year to enlist with the RAF. WWII service brought him to Southeast Asia, then to the Middle East, North Africa and, through attachments to Army and Artillery, eventually up through Italy and into Yugoslavia. After 6 full years of service he returned to his beloved island and married Eleanor Gillett in 1947, also from Twillingate, NL. They settled in Gander, raising 5 children through the most wonderful post war years in an exciting new airport town. Elmo loved getting out in the woods, relaxing in nature and showing his children the beauty and wonder of the natural world. The evolution of jet travel and his many years with Immigration at Gander International Airport exposed us all to the importance of embracing many new cultures. After 50 years living in Gander, they followed their daughters to St. John's in 1996. Predeceased by his eldest son Bernard, tragically in 1972, along with several brothers and sisters, Elmo is mourned by his beloved wife Eleanor, daughters Margaret (Chris O'Dea), Diana (Jonathan Moir), sons, Austin (Belinda) and Roger (Sheri), Grandchildren, Aiden O'Dea (Tina King) and Meghan O'Dea, Matthew Moir (Joana (Lene) Cupatia), Joshua Moir (Janine), David Baird (Gabi Hartmann), Kieran Baird (Lauren Brookes), and Jordan Baird (Tirzah). Also, his Great - Grandchildren; Harlow and Jasper Baird, Sadie and Jack Moir. He also leaves brothers Ted (Mary), Gerald (Phyllis) and sister Pat Baird Bonasera as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the devoted team at Tiffany Village who have provided tender care for 11 years. Veterans Affairs also provided much needed support in recent years. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barrett's Funeral Home, Hamilton Ave. where cremation has taken place. For the protection of all, there will be no visitation and a private family celebration of his life will occur at a later date. Please leave your comments at www.Barretts.ca or by mail to Apt 206, Tiffany Village, St John's, A1A 0G1. Throughout his long life Elmo always maintained a strong sense of humour, and being able to put a smile on people's faces was always a rewarding goal. That is in spite of the many challenges and hardships he endured, particularly in his earlier decades. In memory of a special and loving man, full of kindness and compassion to all living creatures who loved nature and was an excellent guiding light to all who knew him, please consider a donation to your favourite charity, person or family in need.

HAYES Loretta Passed away on November 17th, 2020 at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion, Loretta Hayes of Tilton, age 79 years. Welcomed into Heaven with loving arms, by her husband and soulmate, Bill, her mother and father (Ellen Mary and Lawrence Peddle), brothers Cecil, Raymond, and Jerome, sister Regina, sister in law Jean Marie, mother and father in law Tom and Mary Hayes. Left to mourn with loving and fond memories, daughters Regina (Paul) and Sherrylynn, grandchildren Brianna, Riley and Siobhan, brothers Fr. John, Andrew, Clarence, Terry(Lorraine), Kevin (Susan), Frank (Terry), Wally (Ruth), and sisters Von (Don) and Betty Ann (Tony), sisters in law Linda, Eileen and Lorraine Koehler (Grant), Aunts Susie and Mary, numerous nieces and nephews, special cousin Helen Saunders, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Loretta spent nearly 30 years of her life teaching children, a profession she took so much pride in. She handled all undertakings with dignity and reserve. But her greatest joy in life was being a mother to Sherrylynn and Regina. Her days were always filled lovingly with dedication and pride - from swimming lessons, to skating lessons, to homework, to piano - she was never too busy for her girls. They always came first. Then her role shifted and she became a grandmother - a joy that was like no other. "Nanny" was something else! Someone who will never be replaced nor forgotten. She showed Riley and Siobhan and Brianna a love that was immeasurable. In her retirement years, Loretta's days were filled with a good Mary Higgins Clarke book, a walk with her dear friend Pauline or her sister in law Linda, or enjoying her daily Iced Capp while watching reruns of Murder She Wrote, Young and the Restless, or Golden Girls. Anyone who entered her home could often find her humming along to her favourite hymns. Loretta's love for her family filled her days. Having come from a large family, she dearly enjoyed getting together at "the house" for family gatherings. The closeness shared by her brothers and sisters is something to be cherished and envied. Her last year was spent in The Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavillon long term care facility. Not surprisingly, Loretta touched everyone she came in contact with here. Even in her last hours, her room was visited by staff and residents who found comfort in being able to share their stories of Loretta and affectionately giving her one last kiss. Thank you to the staff who loved and cared for her like she was one of your own. Thank you to Dr. Stryde for his compassion and care. A special thank you to her homecare worker and friend, Genevieve Kieley, for your kindness and love and warmth. As difficult as it is to say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin and friend, there is much comfort in knowing she is whole again. She is in the loving arms of dad, where they will spend eternity together. Until we meet again. Forever loved and always missed. Due to the public health restrictions the funeral service is by invitation only. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to the NL Alzheimers society.

Her love of panda bears coined her Panda Girl to those who knew her, and her sharp wit and trademark sense of humour was always present in her conversations and the stories she shared. She touched the lives of many through her smile, laughter, and generosity. Linda treasured her three grandchildren and embraced every moment with Cara Vardy (Cody), Madison Vardy, and Finn Furlong, who she loved to the moon and back again. KING Nellie Myrtle Sadly, we announce the passing of Nellie Myrtle King (Feltham), on Nov. 8, 2020, at the age of 102, in Fort McMurray Alberta. Hers was a life lived graciously. Thoughtful, witty, charming, and impeccably polite, she touched many lives. She leaves us with many wonderful memories, her words of wisdom, and lots of smiles and laughter. Myrtle, as she was known by family and friends, is survived by her daughter Barbara Brown and husband Bradley of Fort McMurray, daughter-in-law Marjorie King of Cambridge NS, sister Eloise Martin of Clarenville NL, beloved grandchildren Adrienne King (Jon Seary) of St. Phillips NL and Taylor Brown (Wendy Wong) of Edmonton AB, four cherished great grandchildren, beloved nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Andrieux (Jean-Pierre), Wayne King (Linda), Janice King (Glenn Coates), Paul Martin (Robin), Denise Martin, and special friends Sadie Thistle, Betty King, and Brenda Lacroix. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband William R. King, son James, great grandson Matthew Seary, sister Bessie Thistle, and brothers-in-law George Thistle and George Martin. Myrtle, was born in 1918 to Martin and Annie Feltham at Deer Island, NL. When Myrtle was almost a year old, she and Annie moved to Broad Cove to be near family. They moved while Martin was working in New York City as an ironworker with the crew that finished the top of the Empire State Building. Myrtle became a teacher and started her career in one room school houses from Bauline to Carmanville to Port aux Basques, before returning to teach in Broad Cove. It's here she married William Reginald King, who ran the family general store. They started their family with the birth of son, James in 1946. Shortly after, they moved to Corner Brook and the family expanded with the birth of daughter, Barbara. The family moved one final time in 1964 to St Johns, where Myrtle worked for several years as the switchboard supervisor at the Janeway Children's Hospital. Myrtle and Bill developed a wide circle of friends and entertained frequently. She loved to cook and try new recipes and ever the gracious hostess, took pleasure in seeing others enjoy the fruits of her labour. All guests were warmly greeted with a pot of tea and plates full of delicious baked goods. She had a regal quality that she successfully paired with the ability to put everyone in her company at ease. Her attention to proper etiquette was based in the desire to be courteous and considerate to others. Myrtle was a wonderful host and guest. She could talk about all kinds of subjects from world events to baseball. She was funny and genuinely interested in what others were up to. She was elegant and always dressed impeccably. Myrtle had a knack for wearing the perfect outfit for the occasion, and she had the most gorgeous hair, which she kept perfectly styled. She was classically beautiful, and it underscored her stately manner. In 1995 Myrtle joined Barbara and family in Crowsnest Pass AB, eventually moving to Fort McMurray in 2002. Underneath the charming and engaging personality was a strong and steely will to be reckoned with. Myrtle survived the loss of her husband and son. She lived through the Fort McMurray fire of 2016 and its aftermath, which saw Barbara's family losing their home, and a lengthy illness resulting in a five-month hospital stay. Her life was bookended by two global pandemics. Yet, she bore everything out with stoicism and dignity. She truly seemed invincible. She gained wisdom from her life experiences, and anyone who spent time around her will remember hearing at least a few of her sayings. Some were prefaced with "That's like the old woman who…" Some stood on their own such as "When you would do good, evil is ever present." If someone was acting up and difficult to calm down, you might hear, "You're galing for weather." All of her family have at least one that will pop into their heads regularly. If they are lucky, her beautiful alto voice will be saying it. The last place Myrtle called home was Rotary House Seniors Lodge. She moved to this lovely place in Fort McMurray in 2010, and developed many close friendships amongst the residents. She fully embraced life there, was a regular at exercise class, and enjoyed socializing. Myrtle loved the fantastic, caring staff, whom she considered her extended family. Thank you to the front line healthcare staff at the NLRHC in Fort McMurray for providing exceptional care in her last weeks of life as well as Home Care in the last several years. Thanks to Dr. Loretta Roberts and staff, who were very special to Myrtle and provided years of exceptional care. Cremation has taken place, a funeral and internment will be held in St Johns NL in 2021. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may choose to donate to a children's hospital, Rotary House Seniors Lodge (10116 Fraser Ave, Fort McMurray, AB T9H 5E9) or a charity of one's choice. Condolences can be made at rafuneralservices.com

LAITE Douglas Thomas April 19, 1939 - Nov. 13, 2020 Making people smile, enjoying his music and welcoming all around him to the end, Douglas "Doug" Laite breathed his last breath in St. John's, on November 13, 2020 at the age of 81, with family at his side. Faithful and loving husband to wife Jane (nee Angel) of 52 years; father to Susan (Rod); Nancy (Dave) and Michael; and proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Simon, Amanda, Jessie, Kate, Claire and Olivia. Born to Alfred and Amelia Laite, Doug grew up in St. John's with his six siblings: Gordon (Carol), Alfred (Bryl & Helen), Rudy (Edie), Peg (Ray), Joan (Tom) and Jeanette (Robert). Doug leaves to mourn a large extended family in the Laite, Noftall and Angel clans along with countless friends. Doug lived a very public life in many ways, enjoying a vibrant career on CBC Radio and Television. Perhaps most well known as the host of CBC Television's "All Around the Circle," Doug was the host of many CBC Radio Programs, including The Morning Show, Radio Noon, On the Go and Country Jamboree. Officiating the Ocean Ranger Disaster's funeral service, many Royal Visits and countless Santa Claus Parades, Doug's voice was present in households throughout Newfoundland and Labrador for 30 years. In his private life, Doug was an avid outdoorsman. His love for salmon fishing brought him to many remote corners of the province, with the Gander River, Grandy's Brook and Grand Codroy being among his most-loved rivers. He was known to get his moose every year and always had a feed of fresh fish at the ready. Well loved by so many, Doug could be counted on to be the life of a party that was usually filled with many family who were also friends. Music filled his world to his last days, with Frank Sinatra - who he believed to be the best entertainer of the 20th century -- on rotation. His love of show tunes and musicals ensured he could not be stumped on CBC Radio's Trivia Shows. His love of performing is what brought him to meet his wife Jane all those years ago, at a drama festival in St. John's. We will all miss his wonderful sense of humour, his many talents in the kitchen (especially known for his partridge, moose stew and flipper pie) and his warm and welcoming personality. Doug had a gift for making people feel welcome. If you were a guest in Doug's home, you were the centre of attention as though you were a guest on one of his radio shows. His last years were filled with time with his grandchildren and at his cabin at Rocky Pond. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Pleasant View Towers 1SW. There is no visitation at this time. Service and internment to be held at a later date. In memory of Doug, the family asks that you enjoy a meal with friends, have family in, or turn on some Frank Sinatra and take a turn around your living room. ORGAN Mildred (Millie) Ann July 22, 1963 - November 4, 2020 'FROM ONE ROCK TO ANOTHER' Millie was born in Harbour Breton, Newfoundland. Predeceased by her parents Lawrence & Angela Organ. Survived by her 11 siblings Lloyd Organ, Mary and Gerard Caines, Joan & Frank King, Angela, Barb, Gerard, William, Adonis (Karen), Caroline, Murray & last but not least Stella. Millie grew up in a very small settlement in the District of Bay d'Espoir on the South Coast of Newfoundland. From what she told me she had a great life. Poor, but with a mother she idolized. She grew into a caring person and was very protective of her family and its name. I first spotted this little "Newfie Beauty" on the internet, attracted by the beautiful smile and gorgeous teeth. She was sitting on a couch in a white blouse (included here), friends persuading her into posing for the photo to put on the website. Millie's profile listed her attributes as a "light" smoker, "social" drinker, could swim, and a few other fancies. After a quick trip to the local pool, I could see I had my work cut out for me. Millie quickly signed-up for swim lessons, and after a year of walking in the dark at 6:00 a.m. to the YMCA, she became quite a proficient swimmer. We once swam 6 times across The Quarry non-stop….together at Shawnigan Lake. Having Irish Genes, Millie was just a "wee" bit stubborn, and when she put her mind to do something, there was no stopping her. Mildred loved to work out. She bought a heavy bag and gloves, and punched and kicked it. She ran a lot, both with myself and many friends. Bootcamp was one of her favourites. She had her weights and elastic bands for her early morning workouts. Around 2007, we moved from James Bay to Mill Bay, and purchased a house where we opened and ran Millie's B&B for 5 years. It was very successful and fun, but we were too busy to continue with it. We soon set Millie up with her own hair salon in Shawnigan Lake. She was very proud of her business and had many loyal customers, some still coming to her from Victoria. Many of the kids wouldn't let anyone else touch their hair - they all loved the little Newfie. Her shop was always spotless and full of charm. She always played nice music and the atmosphere was all smiles. Being such a popular little "Newfie" meant that I had to "share" her time with many. Most everyone wanted a minute or two with the little "firecracker". My loss is shared with many… and I feel for you all. Newfoundland has always been deep in Mildred's heart. She always talked about her family and her love for them all. Her father of course played the accordian, fiddle, guitar, and the harmonica. I was lucky enough to make it "back home" with Millie a couple of times for good ole' kitchen parties. Millie would have moved back to Newfoundland in a "New York minute" but I suggested it might be a little too "cool" for retirement. I can honestly say that I have never seen another person that could bring & spread so much joy to others. She had an absolute magnetic personality. Millie could light up a room. We are all going to miss this wonderful little girl, and her 2-stepping in her cowboy boots. I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support through this time. I would especially like to thank the medical staff in the ICU's at Vic General and Van General hospitals. A special thank-you to Dr. Louis DeBeers who was not only Millie's GP but a special friend to her. Also a special mention to the nurses in my family, I am forever indebted to you. "Lord Thundering Jesus, where's she to?" "We will meet again", "Love you little Darlin" Greg Due to Covid 19, a Celebration of Life will be announced when possible.

Predeceased by her parents Thomas (1962) and Mary (Flynn) (1984) Spence, her loving and devoted husband Laurence (Larry) C. Power (2009), and sister Elizabeth MacMillan (2016). Mom will be lovingly missed by her children: Linda (Brian), Rick (Bonnie), Cathy (Kevin, deceased), Larry (Claire), Gerry (Judy), Tom (Arlene) and Colleen (Albert). Also leaving to mourn is her sister and confidant Rose and special niece Carol (Medd). Mom was blessed to have many adoring grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who will also miss her dearly: Neil, Cathryn, Emily, Scott, Kelli, Meghan, Matthew, Larry, Laurie, Melissa, Sherrenne, Shannon, Mark, Maria, Spence, Ethan, Kirstyn, Shayna, Dylan, Ben, Emma, Leah, Rachel, Grayson, Charlotte, Madelyn, Griffin, Chloe, Adrian, Josee, Kane, Leanna, James and Valerie. Fondly known as Aunt "Mame" or "Mary" Mom also leaves to mourn her many caring and loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Mom and Dad first met in Buchans, Newfoundland in the late summer of 1951, where Dad grew up and was working at the time. Mom had gone to Buchans for a short term nursing position in the Buchans Hospital. After leaving Buchans and Dad that fall, at the invitation of her sister, Elizabeth, Mom moved to Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec for a nursing position in the hospital. She lived with Aunt Elizabeth and her husband Bill. Dads work took him also to Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec later that fall. No doubt Mom being there had a lot to do with Dads move. Mom and Dad were married on a cold winters' day in Rouyn-Noranda on February 26th, 1952 in a small church ceremony. Over the next seven years four of their seven children were born there. They returned to Whitbourne in 1959 and eventually resettled in St. John's in 1968. Through the years Mom and Dad lived a long and loving life together. Mom again pursued her nursing career while in St. John's until her retirement at the Children's Rehabilitation Centre. Mom and Dad loved to travel and did just that for many years. Their devoted faith was there always through their married lives and in Mom after Dad passed away, and they instilled this in their children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. Young always at heart Mom could easily get her point across simply with just her kind and gentle demeanor and mannerisms. We wish to thank Father Leo English, now in Grand Prairie, Alberta and a special friend to Mom and Dad for a number of years, for telephoning her while she was in the Health Sciences. That lit up her day. We thank Father Tony Bidgood for his visits to Mom, as they were much appreciated by her. We send a special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff on the 3rd floor of the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre where Mom was treated with such loving compassion and care. Also, we would like to thank all of the staff at the Residence at Littledale for the care and attention shown to our Mom and our family during her short but comfortable and enjoyable stay there. Marsha also leaves siblings Don (Le Nga), Chris (Jenifer), Karla, and Louise (Gerry), numerous and adored nieces and nephews (who called her Tante June or Auntie Marsha, depending), several great nieces and nephews, beloved cousins, and long-standing friends. She was a re-inventor of herself, generous to a fault, and kind to everyone. Her most important role to her was raising her family and her grandkids, and she did a bang-up job. She loved deeply, and was deeply loved. Marsha was taken from us by pancreatic cancer, cruelly and rapidly. The family is grateful to Dr. Joshua Wales, her nurse Katarina Berta, and the entire team at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. We also thank the Palliative Team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Dr. Patricia, Tharsika, Lorna and team), and Dr. John Kim and his radiation team. Passed peacefully away on November 20th, 2020 after a short, courageous battle with cancer, Kevin Francis Stamp, aged 74 years. Predeceased by parents Jim and Ella (Grangel); mother and father-in-law Thomas (Gertrude) McCann; brother Leo (Butch); sister-in-law Louise (French) and brother-in-law Tim. Kevin leaves to mourn his loving wife of 50 years Marie (nee McCann); sons: Seamus (Jennifer), Daniel (Charlene) and Neil (Jennifer); grandchildren: Holden, Charlotte, Ella, Rowan and Callum; brothers Jim (Patsy) and Don (Anne Marie); brother-in-law Pat (Elizabeth) and sisters-in-law Margaret (Donnie) and Marie as well as a large number of relatives and friends. While Dad lost his sight in 1999, he never lost sight of what was truly important. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and the best Pop ever. He loved his time working at CN and all the friends he made along the way. Dad's knowledge of St. John's and Newfoundland was unmatched. He was a voracious reader and was able to connect most people with a family member that worked at the railway. Dad also had an uncanny ability to connect with people no matter where he went. If left alone, you'd always come back to find someone talking and having a laugh with him. Most importantly, Dad was fiercely loyal. If he was in your corner, you had a friend for life. He would support you no matter what and passed this lesson onto his children and grandkids. Dad left a special mark on all those he met. While he may have left us for now, he will never be forgotten. Rest easy Dad, the train has left the station one last time. Enjoy the ride. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 1 p.m. from Mary Queen of the World Parish, with inurnment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

WALSH William Patrick August 1, 1931 – Marystown, Newfoundland November 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, our Dad passed away in Calgary at the age of 89. He came from a long line of seamen, including those lost in the tragic "August Gale of 1935". Those drowned on that fateful night included his father, three brothers and numerous relatives and friends. Although Dad moved to Toronto at the young age of seventeen, Marystown was always in his heart. He was a successful businessman, owning a Canadian Tire store in Cochrane, Ontario and then in Sussex, New Brunswick. In the summer of 1975, our family moved West to experience Canada and new opportunities eventually settling in Calgary. Dad ended his career as a Store Manager with General Paint. After retirement, he and our Mom enjoyed many winters in Yuma, Arizona. Mom was the love of his life and the two were inseparable to the end. Our Dad and Mom had nicknamed each other Rufus and Sam respectively. Where one went, the other was always close behind, managing still to hold hands at the dinner table a week before Dad's passing. The closeness they shared their whole life was a bond most can only imagine. Dad was an extraordinary father, husband and Grandad. He was kind and compassionate and had an innate ability to make those around him feel special. He loved gardening and excelled at growing award-winning roses. He was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and loved cheering for the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Team. His sense of humour was exceptional and he was always joking with the caregivers at Staywell Manor. Dad leaves his loving wife of sixty-one years, Mary (Millie) and daughters Brenda Meneghetti (Mauro), Mary Meenagh (Kelly) and Patricia Walsh (Craig Bot). He will be remembered by his ten cherished grandchildren: Michael (Brendon), Marcus, Morgan, Joni, Patrick, Maya, John, Connor, Marie and Carter and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Lillian Ducey and father, William Patrick Walsh and seven brothers and sisters. Our family would like to thank the staff at Staywell Manor for their loving care, Dr. Bogle, Dr. Persaud and the staff at the Rockyview Hospital Unit 93 including Dr. Polenzia and the palliative team. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Dad's obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary. Izola, lovingly know as Dodi to many close to her, was an extremely dedicated and proud nurse both in her working days at the hospital, as well as in the medical help she gave to relatives and friends whenever the need arose. She was active in sports and especially proud of the work she did with minor hockey. She was also an avid golfer, softball player, curler, and enjoyed many other sporting activities. She was a dedicated member of St. Thomas' Anglican Church as a vestry person, a Sunday School teacher, and any other aspect of church life where a volunteer was needed. Izola was a prolific writer having written a full book of poetry. She was often found writing in the early morning and also during her many years volunteering at The Gathering Place. She named her book "Early Morning Gatherings". Deep and heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff of St. Patrick's Mercy Home. The level of care and support provided to not only Izola, but her family, will never be forgotten. At her request, cremation has taken place. Due to current pandemic restrictions there will be no visitation at this time and a private family service will be held. When restrictions are lifted and travel is permitted, her son Ric and family look forward to coming home where a celebration of Izola's life will take place. Donations in Izola's memory can be made to Parkinson Society NL or The Gathering Place. To view online guestbook or leave a message of condolence, please visit www.barretts.ca
