Abbott, Eli Paradise, Newfoundland.  It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eli Abbott announce his passing on Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at his daughter's residence, Cormack, at the age of 80 years.  He will be sadly missed by his two daughters: Annie (Beaton) Harris, Port Blandford, Elva (Fred) Wells, Cormack; grandchildren: Lori (Wesley) Hann , Robyn Webber (special friend Dennis Spraklin), Jonathan Webber; step- grandchildren: Stephen (Karina), Wells, Naomi Wells, Jacinta Wells; one great granddaughter Abigail Hann; one step-great-grandson Edward Wells; sister Maude Fry, Summerville; three brothers: Abel (Gladys), Summerville, Absalom (Eva), and James, both of Nova Scotia; brother-in-law Robert Fry, Charleston; also a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth.  Visitation took place from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. On Wednesday 7- 9 p.m. and Thursday 10-noon, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Carnell's Funeral Home, St. John's.  Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. from Carnell's Funeral Home with Leslie Beddoe officiating.  Interment to follow at the Nondenominational Cemetery, Paradise.  Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to a charity of one's choice.**

Adey, Mildred (nee Tuck) Formerly of Shoal Harbour, passed peacefully away at St. Petersburg, Florida, in her 81st year.  Predeceased by her husband Harold.  Leaving to mourn one daughter Linda Laythrop(George); two grandsons Isaac and Jamie; one brother Boyd Tulk(Edna), Clarke's Beach; other close relatives and friends.  Funeral took place at Funeral Home and Chapel, Seminol, Florida.**

Ainsworth, Doris Roberta Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on Monday, November 8,1999, Doris R. Ainsworth,age 96 years.  Predeceased by husband Arthur(Red). Leaving to mourn sons; Verne and Rod (Janice); grandchildren; Scott Ainsworth (Dorothy), Kim Eeg(Carl), Jody Eyer(Bob),Leigh Ann Behourie(Sel); 7 great-grandchildren; also many other relatives and friends.  Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday from2-4, and 7-9 p.m. with cremation to follow.  Funeral service to take place on Thursday, November 11 1999, 2 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.**

Antle, Felix Joseph Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, November 23, 1999, age 64 years.  Left with cherished memories his loving wife Ada (Kavanagh); two daughters: Bonnie Coleridge (LeMoine), Cheryl (Terry); two sons: Michael (Beverly) and Paula (Laura); six grandchildren: Lisa Antle, Adam, Andrea and Leah Coleridge, and Jonelle and Brandon Enns; one sister Sheila Donahue (Tom); two brothers: Verner  (Myrtle) and Clayton (Carmel); six sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and also a large circle of relatives and friends.  Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Baker, Olive (nee Snelgrove) Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, November 10th, 1999, age 75 years. Predeceased by husband Alexander, 1992. Left with fond and loving memories, five daughters; Diane(John Leckey), Brampton, Ontario; Phyllis(Charles Ryall); Rosalind(Frank Janes); Gloria(Brian Stamp) and Sharon Corrigan, all of St. John's; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Joan Docherty(Joe), Kitchener, Ontario; brothers; Harold Snelgrove(Florence); Kitchener, Ontario; Roy Snelgrove, St. John's; special niece Ruth Babstock; also a large circle of family and friends, especially friends Marie Squires, and Bob and Jean Thomson. A very special thank-you to the nurses, staff and Dr. Shawn Crewe at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, 7 West. Balazic, Constance (Crisby) Of Eastport.  Passed away at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on November 11, 1999, age 65. Barnes, Martin
Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, in Carbonear, on Wednesday, November 3, 1999, Martin Barnes of Clarenville, aged 94 years. Predeceased by his wife, Jean in 1984, his daughter Jean Day and his son Bruce Barnes. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his daughters; Jessie (Jim Strong), Clarenville, Ruth (Mac McKenzie), Alabama, Joan (Douglas Payne), Ontario; his sons; Eric Barnes (Audrey), Mount Pearl; Leslie Barnes, Nova Scotia, one sister; Doris Vokey of Bishop Falls, brothers; Watson Barnes, Shoal Harbour, Curtis Barnes (Martha), Shoal Harbour, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Barrett, Lydia Rachel Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, on Monday, November 8, 1999, Lydia Rachel Barrett, aged 98 years. Predeceased by her husband Nathan; children John, Queenie, and Edward. Battcock, Elizabeth Ann (nee Power) Entered into her eternal home in the presence of family and friends on Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital.  Elizabeth Battcock (nee Power) of Brigus South, age 58 years.  Predeceased by her parents, Jack and Ann Power.  Leaving to mourn with precious memories, her husband Thomas; four sons: Thomas (Irene), Goulds; Paul (Paula), Cape Broyle; Carl (Pam), St. John's; Noel (Lois), Bay Bulls; three daughters: Linda (Lindsay), Mississauga; Sandi (Eric), Halifax; Barbie (Matthew), Mississauga; five grandchildren: Julie, Rebecca, Keegan, Victoria and Patrick; two sisters: Patricia Hawkins and Maureen Mackey; two brothers: John Power and Thomas Power; also a large circle of other relatives and friends.  Resting at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Wednesday, November 24 and Thursday, November 25, 1999 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m..  Funeral Mass on Friday, November 26, 1999 at 11 a.m. from Immaculate Conception Church, Cape Broyle.  Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Cape Cemetery, Cape Broyle.**

Bottomley, Glenise Mae Passed away suddenly at home in King's Cove, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland, on November 19, 1999, following a severe heart ailment and major cardiac surgery with complications.  She is survived by her husband Allan; sons: Adrian and David; sisters: Rena and Anne; brother Jim and their families.  This wonderful lady, wife, mother and friend to all will never be forgotten. "God bless her". "Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me".  A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, King's Cove, Bonavista Bay at 11 a.m., Sunday, December 5, 1999.**

Bown, Frederick W. Passed peacefully away at his home Saturday, November 6, 1999, Fredrick Bown,of Change Islands, age 93 years.  Leaving to mourn with loving and fond memories, his wife Dorothy of 64 years; two sons: Winston (Netta), Change Islands and Ralph (Georgina), Mount Pearl; one daughter: Myrtle (Harvey) Diamond, Change Islands; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild.  Funeral services were held at Change Island United Church on Tuesday, November 9, 1999.  Our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed in any way to help ease the loss of such a special person.**

Boyce, Mildred (nee Tulk) (Teacher) Passed peacefully away at St. Luke's Nursing Home on Sunday, November 21, 1999.  Mildred Boyce, aged 106 years.  Left to mourn with cherished memories are her niece; Lillian Strowbridge, Montréal; nephews; Douglas, wife Muriel, Gananoque; William (Emily) Snow; Douglas (Grace) Snow; Vera (Frank) Stokes; and other relatives and friends.  Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Visitation will take place on Monday from 7-9 p.m.; Tuesday 10 a.m. - 12 noon.  Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Craigmillar Avenue.  Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. Brace, Elizabeth Carrie  (nee Allen) Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, November 25, 1999, Elizabeth Brace of Chance Cove, aged 89 years.  Predeceased by husband Gordon, March 1993, son; Clayton in 1954 and daughter-in-law Marina, 1998.  Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories, eight children; sons: Max, Garland (Elizabeth), Albert (Wavey), Bernard, Angus (Ina); daughters: Dulcie Ivany (Gerard), and Major Lulu Brace, Betty Smith  (Max); 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother William Allen (Elizabeth); two sisters: Molly Smith and Pearl Peddle.  Also lovingly remembered by a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  Resting at the Salvation Army Citadel, Chance Cove, from where the Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 28, at 2 p.m.  Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery.  Flowers gratefully declined.  As expressions of sympathy, donations in her memory gratefully accepted to the Salvation Army Memorial Fund, Chance Cove.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Dildo.**

Browne, Bonnie (nee Hines) Passed away after a short illness at the Health Sciences Complex, on Thursday, November 11, 1999, Bonnie Browne (nee Hines). Aged 41 years. Left to mourn her husband Dennis and precious son Mitchell; her loving mother Myrtle Hines(nee Baker); mother-in-law Nancie Browne; brothers-in-law Paul Browne(Ann Marie), Gary Browne(Linda), and Jim Browne(Cheryl); also a large number of aunts, uncles , nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and special friend Ruby Burry. Browne, Dennis Gordon Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center in the presence of his loving family, Dennis Gordon Browne, age 48 years, on November 20, 1999.  Predeceased by his wife Bonita Browne, on November 11th, 1999 and father, James Browne, on October 7, 1977.  Leaving to mourn with treasured memories, his darling son, Mitchell; and mother, Nancie; and his brothers; James (Cheryl), Garry (Linda) and Paul (Ann Marie); mother-in-law Myrtle Hynes and family; and a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful near and dear friends.  The family will receive visitors at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 1-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday from Corpus Christi Church with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Passed peacefully away at Power's Guest Home, Holyrood, on Wednesday, November 3, 1999, Douglas Burry, age 83 years. Predeceased by his brother Lewis Burry. Burton, Lucy "May" (nee Wadland) Passed peacefully away and immediately taken to heaven by the angels after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness, in the presence of her loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, November 11, 1999, May Burton, age 55 years. Predeceased by her mother Virtue, 1982; father Albert, 1970 and sister Dot Bugden, 1999. Butler, Mary A. Davis Lake Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, November 9th, 1999, after a long battle with cancer, Mary A. Butler, age 46 years. Predeceased by her mom Shirley Davis Howell, her father Lawrence Davis and brother Billy; also her grandparents Florence and Robert Howell and Mary and William Davis. Leaving with fond and loving memories, her loving husband Raymond(Ray); her two loving sons; Derek and Todd; three sisters; Florence(Floss), Deborah(Debbie) and Margaret Ann(Margie); one brother Robert(Bobby); special niece Shirley; two special aunts; Rosemary Howell and Joan Fitzgerald; also a large circle of close family and  friends. BUTLER, Winnie - Passed peacefully away at the Grace General Hospital on Tuesday, November 30, 1999, Winnie Butler, Foxtrap, age 86 years. Predeceased by her husband Jimmy, 1995 & son Edgar, 1995. Leaving to mourn her loving children three sons: Wallace (Mildred), Ray, Byron (Sharon); three daughters: Phyllis Mason (Jim), Linda McDonald (George), Ruth Taylor (Reg), seventeen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Clara Rideout & Henrietta Butler; also other relatives & friends. Resting at the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews. Funeral to take place on Thursday, December 2, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, Long Pond. Campbell, Lynn Passed peacefully away Tuesday, November 30, 1999 at the Health Science Center, Patricia Lynn Campbell.  Aged 50 years.  Daughter of the late Jim and Marjorie Campbell.  Left with fond memories, her husband Chris Decker and her darling children James and Andrea; her brothers: Greg, Paul and Bruce Campbell; her sister-in-law Marsha Richler (New York); and niece and nephew Dvorah and Jonathan Richler.  She will be sadly missed by large circle of relatives and friends.  Cremation has taken place.  At  Lynn's request, there would be no visitation.  A Memorial service will be held at Gower Street United Church on Friday, December 10, 1999 at 2 p.m.  In lieu flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the General Hospital Health Foundation, 300 Prince Philip Drive, St. John's, Newfoundland, A1B 3V6 (Bone Marrow Transplant Program).  Arrangements entrusted to Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. **

Passed peacefully away at home on November 2nd, 1999, Catherine Elizabeth Clancy, age 70 years. Leaving to mourn her beloved husband Raymond, of 50 years; beloved children; Christopher (Barbara), Janine, Bobbi (David) Sidel; Cyril (Patty); Cathy (Tillman) Benfey, Fredericton; seven grandchildren; Dana, Craig and Lauryn Sidel; Nicholas and Anton Benfey, Zachary and Laim Clancy. Cochrane, Maurice Passed peacefully away Lions Manor, Placentia, on November 15, 1999, aged 86 years (formerly of Preque, P. Codner, Albert Ernest
Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at the Health Sciences Center on Tuesday, November 2, 1999, Albert Ernest Codner of Torbay, in his 74th year. Predeceased by his parents Ernie and Anne; sisters; Nina Wear, Livie Tubman; and brother Eugene. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife of 54 years, Rose; his seven children; Ethel Labrie (Andre), Gerald (Marion), Beverly Minor (Kevin), Myra Spurrell (Rick), Don (Diane), Lindsay (Lillian) and Manuel (Arlene); 17 very special grandchildren; Chris, Scott, Sandi, Courtney, Tina, Tammy, Jana, Adam, Mark, Renee, Adam, Nathan, Wendy, Eugene, Andrew, Leah and Erinne; and 7 great-grandchildren; his sisters; Sybil (Thistle); Myra (Walters); and brother Gerald; sister-in-law; Laura, and brothers-in-law; Norman Tubman, Walter Eugene Wear; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Passed away suddenly at his home in Lehman Township, Pennsylvania, November 29, 1999, age 77. Born in Carbonear, he was a son of the late Walter and Ethel Mae Dawe. He graduated from St. James Academy, Carbonear, Bishop Field College and the University of Toronto, with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. He also graduated from Penn. State University as a Paralegal. He served in the R.C.A.F. during World War 11 as a radio air gunner with rank of piolot officer. He was employed by the Cities Service Oil Co., Tulsa, Okla., as a wholesale salesman and assistant division manager. A member of the American Petroleum Institue and the Lehman United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school. Predeceased by brothers; John, Harvey, Wallace; sisters; Olive, Ruth. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Judith (Simms); sons; William and Christopher, grandson; John, all of Lehman Township; brothers; Wilfred, St. John's, Cyril, Edinburgh, Scotland; sister; Joyce McGrath, St. John's, nieces and nephews. Dunbar, Isobel Moira--OC,FRSC Passed away peacefully at the Queensway-Carlton Hospital on November 22, 1999, aged 81 years.  Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she came to Canada in 1947 with a Geographic Degree from Oxford, after seven years on the professional stage in England.  In Ottawa, she worked for the Defense Research Board surveying sea ice from aircraft and ice breakers.  One of the first women to fly over the North Pole, she became an expert on sea ice, co-authored "Artic Canada from the Air", and published many scientific papers from 1952-1978.  Retired in 1978, she began her "third incarnation" as a "hobby farmer" in Dunrobin  and an active volunteer for the March Historical Society at the Pinhey's Point Foundation.  Predeceased by her brother Maxwell John Dunbar, OC, FRSC.  Leaving to mourn her passing are her sister Elizabeth Jenkins and eight nieces and nephews: Annie Rowley, Peter Jenkins, Dougal, William, Elizabeth, Andrew, Christine and Robyn Dunbar, and a large circle of friends.  A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's Church, Dunrobin, Saturday, December 4 at 11 a.m.  Flowers gratefully declined.  Donations in her name may be made made to the Oxfam Canada or Amnesty International.**

Harvey, John Patrick  "Captain John", 72, of 16 Braeside Lane, Halifax, formerly of Truro, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, November 18, 1999, in the New Halifax Infirmary. John, from St. John's, Newfoundland, was the son of the late John and Mary(Murphy) Harvey. A commercial traveler, he was employed with Atlantic Gypsum Ltd., Corner Brook, Newfoundland for many years.  Dad's main passion was curling at the Truro Curling Club and he loved to entertain his fellow club members with "Newfie" nights.  He also enjoyed trout fishing, woodworking and is a member of the Shearwater Woodworking Cub; a past member of the Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, Big Brothers-Big sisters and a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Truro.  In his retirement years, Dad could be found at the Public Gardens and Halifax waterfront, selling his fisherman souvenirs.  He is survived by son Dan and wife Jacinta of Berwick; daughter Karen and husband Gary O'Hara; daughter  Barbara and husband Chris Corkum,  both of Halifax; his former wife Julia; grandchildren; John, Andrew, and James Harvey, Liam O'Hara, Carly and Connor Corkum; sisters; Margaret Brazil and Theresa Hall of St. John's, Newfoundland; brother James Harvey of Kilbride, Newfoundland; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sisters, Loretta Kavanaugh, Thomasina Fitzpatrick, Mary Jones and brother Gerald, all of St. John's, Newfoundland.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 21, from 3:30- 5 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8 p.m. Sunday, to be held at Mattatall Funeral Home, Young Street, Truro.  Funeral Services to be held on Monday, November 22 at 11 a.m. in the Immculate Conception Church, Prince Street, Truro. Lake, James Joseph Friday, November 12, 1999, Jim Lake died in his 95th year at St. Luke's Home in St. John's, Newfoundland and is lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sisters Margaret and Julia and his many relatives and friends. His years of service to the community as a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary made him a well-known and respected polcie officer. In her retirement years she resided with her husband Nate at Shoal Harbour, and most recently at 144 Masonic Park, Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. Actively involved in amateur radio(VO1NB), she also participated in many community organizations. Grace will be missed by her husband Nathan Goff Penney, her daughter Mavis and son Frank, his wife Jean and gandchildren; Ian and Andrew, her brother Grahan Leavey(Joyce, of Bristol, England, and sister-in-law Mavis Unwin(Peter) of Yeovil, Somerset, England; she was predeceased by her sister Mavis Turner of Somerset, England. Passed peacefully away at home on November 1, 1999, Muriel A. Wall, age 86 years. Predeceased by her first husband Leo Ryan (1946), second husband Dan Wall (1993) and son Gerard Ryan (1995). Left with fond and loving memories, her daughter Sheila O'Brien (Henry); and son Cyril Ryan (Margot), Orleans, Ontario; one sister Bridget Evans, Ontario; sister-in-law Marie Power; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and also a large circle of other relatives and friends, especially those members of both the Catholic Women's League and Legion, Branch 56 and residents of Churchill Square Apartments. Walsh, Harold Francis Held in the loving arms of his family at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, "Pop" was called home on Saturday, November 13, 1999, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Kathleen Walsh. Loving father of Bridget Williams, husband Cecil, Sarah Hollihan, husband Steven both of Newfoundland, Cathy Hutchings and dear friend Mary Delaney and family of Cambridge. Harold is survied by 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; sister Margaret of Philadelphia; and sisters-in-law; Cavelle Hennessey and Mary Moore. Predeceased by his brothers; Patrick, Michael and Vincent; son-in-law Gordon Hutchings; and sister-in-law Margaret Walsh. Pop will be missed by his large circle of friends and family in St. John's, Newfoundland, where he served with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, before retiring. Harold served with the Royal Artillery, overseas, during the Second World War, receiving many medals of honor. His love and commitment for his family will always be treasured in the hearts of those who loved him. Walsh, Mary Elizabeth  (nee Morrissey) Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, November 17, 1999, age 79 years.  Predeceased by her husband Cyril Joseph Walsh (Tim), September 28, 1992.  Leaving to mourn her loving sister, Loretta Kennedy; nieces:Patricia, Rosalind, Phyllis; nephews:  Raymond, Jim, Jerome, Mike, Pat and Doug; and adopted daughter,Yvonne Coady (Mike) and granddaughter Alice Marie; also many great nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.  A special thank you to Dr. Colburn  and the nurses and staff of 7  East, St. Clare's and to Dr. Withers and the nurses and staff of 2 East Hoyles Escasone Complex. Predeceased by her husbands William Whitten and James Worrall; two sisters; Laura Hickey(1995) and Margaret Hutchings(1999). Yard, Joan (nee Puddister) Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center on November 14, 1999, after a courageous 10 year battle with cancer, Joan M. Yard (nee Puddister), age 55 years, surrounded by her loving family.  Town Manager, Town of Witless Bay.  Predeceased by her father, Leo Sr. in 1982 and her mother Hilda in 1997, brothers Gordon and Robert in 1955.  Left with treasured memories, devoted husband and best friend Cyril; two sons: David (daughter-in-law Lorraine, cherished grandson Tyler in Ottawa), Chris(friend Mishelene): daughter Lorna(friend Glenn); two sisters; Geraldine Kavanagh(Adrian), Ferryland, Judy (Jim), Bay Bulls; two brothers; Leo (Bernie), Bay Bulls, Douglas (Margaret), Toronto; special brother-in-law; Walter Yard; special friends; Joan Houlihan and Marie Cahill; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial from St. Patrick's Church, Witless Bay on Thursday, November 18th at 11 a.m.  Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Witless Bay. 
Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly.  Her courage, kindness and selfishness is an inspiration to all who knew her.  May she rest in peace.**
