BAILEY, David Kenneth (Beetle) - Passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 4, 2009, after a brief illness, aged 67 years. Predeceased by his beloved daughter, Leah, who passed away earlier this year and his special and close mentor, Chester MacDonald. David graduated from Prince of Wales College, Memorial University and from Nova Scotia Tech where he gained his degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation he worked at the Saskatchewan Research Council in Saskatoon and returned to Newfoundland in the early 1970's to work at the Newfoundland and Labrador Development Corporation. His last twenty years were spent working at the National Research Council. He was a volunteer with the Crows Nest Archives Association and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Newfoundland. COOMBS (nee Bonner), Audrey Doris - Passed peacefully away on Saturday, October 24, 2009, in St. John's after a brief battle with cancer. Born in St. John's on March 25, 1929 to Doris and Alfred Bonner, Audrey was the youngest child who prematurely lost her beloved brothers Eric in 1937 and Gerald in 1971. She attended Bishop Spencer College, Memorial College and Acadia University. She cared for her aging parents and her own family and also worked for MCP prior to retirement. Audrey was much loved and cherished by her surviving family which includes: her children: Allynne (Dr. Gordon Jones) in Palm Coast, Florida, Karen (Bert Scheepers) in Delta, Ont. and Eric (Marie Walsh) in Mount Pearl; her precious niece Eleanor (Larry Maisonneuve) in Ottawa; her grandchildren Andrea Totten (Kyle) in Palm Coast, Dr. Christopher Jones in Philadelphia, Timothy Jones (fiancée Estrella) in Boston; Andrew, Luke, Benjamin and Liam Coombs in Mount Pearl, and her special grandnephew Kyle Maisonneuve in Ottawa. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband Lester "Ghandi" Coombs in 2004 with whom she shared over 50 years of happy marriage. Upon retirement they summered in St. John's and wintered in Ft. DALLEY (nee Cole), Ena Victoria - It is with sadness that the family of Ena Victoria "Mom" Dalley announces her home-going on October 30, 2009, at her home in Embree at the age of 82. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 60 years, Pastor Cecil F. DEL RIZZO, Angelo - Surrounded by the love of his family Angelo Del Rizzo passed away peacefully in Mar del Plata, Provincia del Buenos Aires, Argentina at the age of 83 after a lengthy illness. Born on March 8, 1927 in Azzano Decimo, Pordenone, Italy, he was the son of Giovanni Battista Del Rizzo and Maria Teresa Del Rizzo (née Marcuz) and the beloved father of Emilce and Lilliana (Tato). He is predeceased by his wife Herminia. His spirit spanned three continents and will be remembered in St. John's, Newfoundland by his brothers Benjamin (Carmen) and Guido (Francis); and by Joseph (Sherry) in Brampton, Ontario. In Italy he leaves behind brothers Don Mario and Georgio (Adrianna) and sisters Santina (Rosario) and Suor Adrianna. FINLAY, Sean Ogilvie, 1944-2009- In the early morning of October 13, 2009, Sean Finlay died peacefully surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Sean Finlay was born in Vancouver, the son of Delbert Finlay and Winifred Wiggins. He followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps, working in the newspaper industry as a journalist and editor for CP and Thompson Newspapers. Sean was the editor of the Arnprior Chronicle, the Kirkland Lake Northern Daily News and the Barrie Examiner where he won several newspaper awards. Sean covered Parliament Hill from 1978 to 1982. He served as Vice-President of the Parliamentary Press Gallery in 1982. From 1982 to 1987, he was the editor of the St. John's Evening Telegram, in St. John's Newfoundland. In 1987, Sean retired from his newspaper career and returned to Ottawa. He formed Wordsmithing Plus, working as an editor, speech writer and public relations consultant. Since 1996, Sean has been employed with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as the English language editor.
Sean will be forever remembered by his wife of 43 years, Jan, his daughter Seana Siobhan, and his "two boys", grandsons Graham Ogilvie Jones and Sam Jones. Also mourning his loss are mother-in-law Mil Taylor, son-in-law Kris Jones, brother Joel (Carolyn), and nephew Chris. He will be sorely missed by his friends at CMHC and many others. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24^th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hulse Playfair & McGarry at 315 McLeod St. in Ottawa. LEGROW (nee Feltham), Mabel - Passed peacefully into the arms of the angels surrounded by her loving and devoted family at St. Luke's Nursing Home, Tuesday, October 6, 2009, Mabel LeGrow (nee Feltham) of Bauline (formerly of Deer Island, Bonavista Bay), age 87 years. Predeceased by her husband Donald in November 1987 and her son Selby in October 1994. Mom left her caring touch in many communities throughout Newfoundland during her years as a teacher and settled in Bauline where with our father devoted their lives to their family, church and community. Among many wonderful memories Mom will especially be remembered for her wisdom, guidance and unconditional love. Her kindness and generosity, especially to those less fortunate, her sense of humor and pleasant personality and her very strong will to live. MARTIN, Claude Lidstone - Born in 03/06/1921 - Age 88, a La Scie native for nearly 85 years, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2009, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, N.L. after a short illness.
Claude Martin was born on June 3, 1921 in LaScie, N.L. to Patrick Martin and Catherine (Dwyer) Martin.
He married Ethel May (Short) Martin in Grand Falls, N.L. on April 18, 1971 shortly before his 50^th birthday. They had been married nearly 39 wonderful years.
Claude was everywhere in the community, a dear friend to many people, a mentor to dozens of young people and an active volunteer. He loved a good drink while playing cards, reading a good WWII book and spending time with his family. He is predeceased by Patrick & Catherine Martin (father & mother); Blair (brother-in-law) & Josephine Campbell (sister); and Raymond Short (father-in-law).
Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Ethel and their two children, Patrick and his wife, Marlene of St. John's, N.L. and Michael and his wife Kathryn of Morden, MB; grandchildren Connor, Matthew and Nicholas; also nieces Debbie Connor, Margaret Topping and Sharon Campbell-Macsween; Effie Short (mother-in-law); with nine brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

NOLAN (nee McCormack), Helen Mary - Passed away in peace at St. Michael's Hospital October 7, 2009. Born August 16, 1914 in St. Joseph's, NL. While Helen lived in "Canada" for over 60 years, Newfoundland was the home of her heart. Helen married Bertram Nolan August 8, 1942. They had five children: Anne, Elsie, Walter (Nancy), Kathy (Kim Garner), Marg (Pat Esaw); and five grandchildren: Anne, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Kathryn and Laura. Predeceased by husband Bert, daughter Anne, and her siblings Mary (Ralph Bertelsen), Anne (Sr. Mary Basil), Jack (Mary), George (Margaret), Neil, Charles (Gertrude), Kathleen, and Margaret (George Furey). Survived by her sister Patricia (Gerald Davis) and her beloved nieces and nephews. Blessed by a career she loved, Helen retired from teaching in 1979 and later obtained an Honors BA from York University. PIKE, Launcelot Otto - Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer, Launcelot (Launce) Otto Pike, 75. Predeceased by his grandson Timothy (2007). Leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years, June Pike (McGrory); sons Chris (Kathy), Keith (Valerie) and Hayward; grandchildren Adam and Tonia (Hayward), David and Greg (Keith) and Andrew, Ben and Zac (Chris), and great-granddaughter Abigail (Adam) and a large circle of friends and relatives. Launce was the oldest child of Hayward Wallace Pike and Lillian Marie Brazil. Launce was born in Forteau, Labrador in 1934, raised in Battle Harbour, and spent his youth on the coast of Labrador, forever etching it in his heart. He came to St. John's to go to Bishop Feild school in 1950 where he met, and married in 1957 his dedicated and caring wife June. June and Launce moved back to Goose Bay in 1958, and their first child was born there. Returning to St. John's in 1960, they built a family home that was visited and blessed by many friends and family over the years. Launce returned to Labrador many times, including with his son Hayward, and as captain of a boat he piloted, with the skills of a Master Mariner. Launce will be remembered for his love of the ocean, boats and the outdoors, his excellent wood-working and his kind-hearted nature. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. STARKES, Sterling Dafoe - After a courageous battle with cancer, Sterling passed away, age 60, in Ottawa on October 19^th, 2009, with his family at his side. He was the son of the late Samuel and Janet (Welcher) Starkes, and grew up in Musgravetown. Sterling treasured 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife Sharon (Hancock) Starkes. A devoted husband and father, Sterling raised his family in Gander. Cherished father to Janet Starkes Fowler (David) and Trevor Sterling Starkes (Jill); proud grandfather to Lauryn and Kate Fowler and Ellis Sterling Starkes, all living in Ottawa. Dear brother of Anne Hancock, Dulcie (Merl) Feltham, Kathy (Geoff) Muggridge, all living in Newfoundland, and Wayne (Rosalynn) Starkes of Calgary. He was predeceased by his sisters Effie Dafoe, Lizzie Starkes, Phyllis Philpott and Betty Wiseman (survived by Bill). Sterling will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. SUTTON, Clarence Gerard - Age 46. Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on October 20, 2009. Clarence leaves us after a brief but courageous battle with brain cancer. Clarence was a physical education teacher and coach for over 21 years. He gave his life to working with children. His true love was basketball but he also helped coach various hockey and soccer teams as well. He lived his lifelong dream at various schools including: Stella Maris, Trepassey, St. John Bosco, Shea Heights and most recently St. Kevin's High School in Goulds. Clarence will be remembered for instilling in all of us the importance of kindness and goodwill to our fellow human beings.

Predeceased by brother Kevin and his wife, Mary; sisters: Elizabeth, Mary and Catherine and brother John (Jack). WALSH, Dr. Michael Joseph - Dr. Michael Joseph Walsh passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3^rd, 2009 at the age of 76. Survived by his beloved wife Bernadette (Bun), who he loved with all his heart throughout their 51 year marriage. Loving father to Jo-Anne, Michael, Susan, Paul and David. Respected father-in-law of Doug Smith, Don Campbell and the late Heidi Walsh. Cherished grandfather to Adam and Kathleen Walsh, Sara and Krista Campbell, and Jacob Smith. Survived by his brother Dr. Kevin Walsh of St. John's. Predeceased by his parents Sir Albert and Lady Winifred Walsh and brother Gerard. Born in Holyrood, Newfoundland, Mike moved his family from St. John's to Barrie in 1965 and began a long and respected career as a Pathologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital, retiring just three years ago. Many thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital for their gentle care and compassion. The family will receive friends at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, 721-9921, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.. WELLS, Hedley Benjamin, (1924 - 2009)- Passed peacefully away and entered the gates of Heaven on October 13, 2009. He leaves a legacy of fond and cherished memories to daughters Gertie (James Pardy), Brenda (Barry Legge), sons, John (Joyce), and Marvin (Donna) and very special companion, Florence Lush. WICKS, Patsy (Mary) - Passed away at the Health Sciences Centre after a long and courageous battle with cancer on October 31, 2009, Patsy Wicks aged 56 years. Predeceased by her husband Dave (July, 2008), Mother and Father Jean and Don Hogan, brothers: Wayne and Bud Hogan. Left with fond and loving memories is her only child Natasha (Jason), and her pride and joy her grandson Nathan who will miss his Nanny so much, brothers and sisters: Ted (Betty), Butch (Gail), Bev (Rick) Kearsey, Bob (Joan), Gene (Margie), Marian, Tiny (Paula); sisters-in-law Charlene Ivany, Amelia Colbert, Martha Wicks in whom she cared for, Claudette (Lloyd) Brown; special nephew Colin Hogan and many other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, as well as many other special friends and relatives. WINTER (Baird), Phyllis Boyd - 1917 - 2009. Passed peacefully away on October 19, 2009, at Masonic Park Nursing Home, Phyllis Boyd (Baird) Winter. Phyl was the second eldest and last surviving child of Boyd and Annabella Baird. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald (Ged) in November 1996, her siblings Ross, Doug and Betsy, her daughter-in-law June and her nephew Andy Baird. She leaves to mourn her three sons: Keith (Marianne), Comox, BC, John (Barbara), Vancouver, B.C. and Steve (Eleanor), St. John's, N.L. She was grandmother to eight grandchildren: Gillian (Matt), Tim (Tara), Stephen (Kim), Christopher (Rozelle), Laura, Russell, Greg (Cara) and Martin (Andrea). She felt fortunate to have lived to see her seven great-grandchildren. Phyl also leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Hester Baird; nephew Dave (Jeanie) and their families; niece Deb (Steve); special family friends Jim and Bonnie Crawford; as well as other members of the Winter and Baird families.
