HAYNES, Cpt. Colin Roy C.A.F. (Retired) -- St. John's

The family of Colin Roy Haynes of St John's NL is sad to announce his passing at the age of 91 years after a brief but courageous battle with heart disease. Preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia Ann. Also remembered by companion and cherished friend Betty Oliver. Leaving to mourn and remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and teacher of life lessons to son Roger (Brenda), son Rob and daughter Jennie Lyn (Robert), granddaughter Amber (Jason), grandson Colin (Gyd), and great granddaughters Kennedy and Isla Rose. Brother of Mac and the late Frank, James, Ron, Nell and June. Further survived and fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. As per his wishes, there will be "no hoopla" on his passing. A celebration to honor his life for will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2022 between 6:00 and 9:00 PM at Carnell's Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Road. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the Single Parent Association of Newfoundland at https://spanl.ca/donations/ or Diabetes Canada at https://www.diabetes.ca/

SAUNDERS, William Charles Royal Navy Veteran WWII
St. John's

Passed peacefully away in the Caribou Veterans Pavilion, William Charles Saunders age 101 years. He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Brenda whom he adored. They were married August 2, 1944 in Newport South Wales and in 1946 mom made the long journey from South Wales to Newfoundland where they would spend nearly 70 years together before her death in 2014. Also predeceased by his parents William and Edith Saunders and his three sisters; Evelyn, Marjorie and Lily. Leaving to mourn his three devoted children, Denise (Wayne) Fitzpatrick, Diane (Melvin) Eason and David (Susan). As well as his three grandchildren, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Rhys Saunders and Stephanie Eason (Tristan); his sister Jean Chafe as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was a young man joining the Royal Navy at 18 years old, he proudly served his country from May 4, 1940 - July 18, 1946 and as a serving member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 until age 98. He earned numerous medals and awards and was a mentor to many young men and women. The family would like to thank the staff of the Caribou Pavilion VP3 for their devotion and care of dad. Also, special thanks to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 7p.m-9p.m and Saturday, October 29th from 12p.m to 2p.m. Funeral Service will be held in Barrett's Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 29th, 2022 at 2p.m with an internment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Field of Honor. To virtually attend the service please visit www.barretts.ca   Donations may be made in William's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 or to a charity of one's choice.
