ADAMS, Frederick George
Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, October 20, 1997, following a short illness, Frederick George Adams, age 79 years. Veteran of Merchant Navy, World War II. Predeceased by his wife Ella, 1972. Leaving to mourn wife Mary; children: Charles (Isabel), John (Linda), Joan (David Best), James (Susan), Mary (Ernest Chancey) and step-son Derrek O'Grady (Carol. Twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers: Charles, William, Eric and sister Joan Arkle; brother-in-law Frank; sisters-in-law: Dorothy and Janet, many nephews, nieces and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral arrangements to be announced later.

Clements, James C.
Age 68. Passed peacefully away at the Grace General Hospital on Friday, October 17th, 1997. Predeceased by brother Frank. Leaving to mourn his wife Emma; four sons; Robert and wife Ramona, Junior and wife Monica, Fred and fiancée Elaine, Scott and wife Isabel; six grandchildren; Jessica, Allison, Christopher, Michael, Shane, Keisha; special sister Gladys Poole and fiancée Nat Hutchings; three brothers; Richard and wife Anita, George in Ontario, Charlie and wife Carmel; two sisters; Irene (Mrs. Mike Walsh), Olga (Mrs. Jack Ersheler); special friend Vince Lee; special uncle and aunt Gordon Clements and wife Kay. Also a number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 2-10 pm Saturday; 10 am – 10 pm on Sunday and 10 .m – 1:30 pm on Monday, Funeral Service will take place at 2:30 pm., Monday, October 20th, 1997 from St. George’s Anglican Church, Petty Harbour with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Petty Harbour.

Duggan, Elizabeth
Aged 75 years of Cape Broyle. Passed peacefully away at the Escasoni Complex on October 24th, 1997. Predeceased by her husband James Duggan, son Stephen Duggan and grandson Aiden Mackey. Survived and sadly missed by daughters; Molly (Mackey) and husband Aiden, Tors Cove, Bridie (Carew) and husband Joseph, Cape Broyle, Christina (Reder) and husband Frank of New Denver, B.C., sons; James and wife Mary, Cape Broyle, John and wife Catherine, Sudbury, Ontario, Roche and wife Eva, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, Kenny and wife Paulette, Cape Broyle, Pius and wife Donna, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Dennis, Cape Broyle; brothers; Marty, Charlie, Wilfred of Cape Broyle, Syd, Halifax, N.S., sister Mary of Job’s Cove, Conception Bay; also numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. All the family would like to thank all the staff at the Escasoni Complex. Resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Visitation October 25th and 26th, 1997 from 2 – 10 pm.. Funeral October 27th, 1997 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Cape Broyle at 11 am.. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cape Broyle.

Elliott, George B.
Age 81 years, of Buchans. Passed Peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, October 14th, 1997, George B. Elliott, WW11 Veteran. Leaving to mourn wife Rita; two sisters; Florence Pelley and Evelyn Cooper; also a number of other relatives and friends. Resting at United Church, Buchans after 11 pm on Wednesday from where the Funeral will take place at 2 pm, Tuesday, October 16th, 1997. Interment to follow in the United Church Cemetery, Buchans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Church, Buchans.

SMITH, Barbara Ann (nee Hutchings)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Barbara Smith announce her sudden passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, October 6th, 1997 in her 50th year. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Bill; two sons: Sean (Trudy), Kanata, ON, Colin at home; two daughters: Nichole and Natalie, St. John's; her mother-in-law Mrs. Marie Smith, Corner Brook; five sisters: Bette Rolls, Corner Brook, Sr. Rosette RS.M., St. John's, Joan, Trudy (Werner) Schulz, Coleen (Bill) Boland, Corner Brook; sister-in-law Margaret, Stephenville; two brothers: Kevin (Pat) Trenton, ON, Bill (Marie), Corner Brook; sisters-in-law: Kay (Bill) Duggan, Kilbride, Ida (Joe) Gulliver, Pasadena, Dolly (Jerry) Walsh, Ottawa, Margie Power, Thunder Bay, Judy (Brian) Lawlor, St. John's, Mary (Mark) Tolleton, Montana, Sheila (Reg) Fitzgerald, Goulds, Marion (Larry) Smith, Sunnyside, Jeannie (Bill) Roberts, St. John's; brothers-in-law: Jim (Pat) Smith, Ottawa, Bob (June) Smith, Corner Brook, Charlie Smith, Toronto. She is predeceased by her mother Bride and father Alex; her brother Ed, Stephenville; brothers-in-law: Harry Rolls, Corner Brook and Don Power, Thunder Bay; father-in-law James D. Smith; also remembered by many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family will be receiving friends from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Pasadena beginning on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from where the Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, October 9th at 2 p.m., Fr. Grace officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Patricia Cemetery, Corner Brook. As expressions of sympathy, flowers or donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

WALSH, Leo
Passed peacefully away October 7, 1997 Leo Francis of Paradise, age 77, World Two II, Royal Navy, Retired CNR Trainman. Member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36, Mt. Pearl. Predeceased by daughter Brenda Gilbert, May 12, 1989; sister Nora 1983; brother Ned 1989. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 50 years, Rita (Gallahue); five sons: Edward (Dianne), Denis, Terry (Frances), Philip, Michael (Dianne); two daughters: Donna, Cathy (Fabian Connors); son-in-law Bill Gilbert; brothers: Dennis (Esther), William, Joseph, Kevin (Marie); sisters: Mary (Jack Gover), Betty (Alf Sullivan); sisters-in-law: Madeleine Walsh, Kay Huddy; brother-in-law Cyril Fitzgerald (Rose); loving grandchildren: Michelle and Andrea Gilbert, Eddie, Robert, Christopher, Stephen and Lindsey Walsh.
