MACDONALD (Nee Wright), Libby (Elizabeth) - June 14, 1933 - September 02, 2011. It is with overwhelming disbelief and heavy hearts that we inform you of Libby's sudden and untimely death. Our mother lived her life to the fullest, never stopping for a second. Libby was always involved in a voluntary capacity in her community. Some of her voluntary work included Burlington Tourism, Bronte Creek Park Christmas Program, the Seniors Centre, and previously for a number of years at Animal Aid now Burlington Humane. Libby developed a passion for photography which reflects the over 6,000 pictures saved on her computer. Libby loved animals and although she opted not to have a pet, as she loved to travel, she got much joy from her family and friends pets and frequently would cat or dog sit when needed. Before settling in Burlington in 1998 Libby emigrated from the U.K. in 1957 to St. John's, Newfoundland as a new RN graduate where she lived for 40 years. She worked as an RN at the old General Hospital in St. John's where she met our Dad, Aubrey "Mack" Macdonald (deceased 1984). She developed a severe allergy to Penicillin during her practice that led to her leaving the nursing profession. She then worked with the Provincial Government of Newfoundland in the Tourism Department and retired from there. Libby then moved back to the U.K. to care for her aging parents. With her fathers passing she arrived back in Burlington bringing her 90 year old mother with her. Libby cared for her mother until her death at the age of 98 years old. As a family, this is not what we imagined for our mother. We saw her living well into her 90's as both her parents had done. We are grateful for the time we had with our mother and that her end of life was peaceful. Libby is survived by her three children. Fiona Reynolds (Rob), Neil Macdonald, and Heather Smith (Barry) of St. John's Newfoundland and her grandchildren, Chelsea Reynolds, Samantha, Kyle, and Bobby Smith, step-grandchild Jenna Reynolds. Nanny Mac will forever be in their hearts. Cremation has taken place and although Libby made it clear she did not want a service there will be a gathering for her friends to celebrate her life Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Just Cremation, Upper Canada Place, 31-460 Brant Street, Burlington from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Libby would appreciate any donations to the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital (www.jbmh.com) where she received superb care during her short stay there. As per Libby's request, her family will take her remains back to Newfoundland for her final resting place.
