Former teacher and principal at St. Paul's School, Harbour Grace. Predeceased by husband: John T. Leaving to mourn, one daughter: Donna (William) Warren, Mount Pearl; two grandchildren: William (Susan) and Melissa (Rod); one great-grandson: Avery; one brother: Charles (Clarissa) Stevenson, Mount Pearl; one sister: Nellie Archibald, Harbour Grace; nieces and nephews: Betty, Charlene, Susan, Gary and Scott; also a number of other relatives and friends. BAKER, Ann Marie - August 4, 1929 - September 13, 2014 - Passed peacefully away surrounded by her family on September 13, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Predeceased by her parents Helen and John Clarke, (Goulds); son Christopher; husband Kimber; brothers Phonse, Thomas, Vince, John and Jim; sisters Helen (Nell) and Carrie. Left with fond and loving memories her children Peggy (California), Linda (Peter), Lori and Helen; brothers Mike (Betty), Alberta and Eddy (Gail); sisters Marge, Daphene (Mike) and Karen (B.C); grandchildren Christopher, Emily, Max and Faith, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews; and special friend Rogene and other relatives and friends. BAKER, Chesley James - Passed suddenly away on September 10, 2014, Chesley Baker age 24 years. Predeceased by his grandparents: George and Marion Sawers; Bill and Betty Baker. BARRON (Tucker), Sarah Mary - Passed away in the loving care of family and friends after a lengthy hard fought battle with cancer, Sarah Mary (Tucker) Barron, aged 70 years of age of Whitbourne. Predeceased by parents Agnes and James Tucker, sisters Margaret and Frances, brother William. Left with loving memories and many adventures, her husband of 48 years Bill Sr., Daughter Patti (Don), Bill Jr. (Mary), Brian (Susan). BARTLETT, Theresa Mary - (March 14, 1932 - September 29, 2014) - Passed peacefully away on Monday, September 29, 2014 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, Theresa Bartlett, aged 82 years. Predeceased by infant son Michael, husband William, parents: Margaret and Samuel Gosse, brothers: Thomas, David, Philip, John, and Michael. Left to mourn are her children: Mary, Jim (Linda), Marg, Debbie and Brenda (Richard) Spurrell; brother-in-law George Bartlett; sister-in-law Lydia Gosse and grandchildren: Leslie Ann, Ann Marie, Brenda Lee, Travis, Clyde, Daniel and Liam; great-grandchildren: Brent, Jasmine, Amber and Brooklyn as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. BIGEAU, Jacques Gilles Adrien - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John's, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, Jacques Bigeau, age 66 years. Predeceased by his father Edouard (1975). Leaving to mourn, his mother Rita (Lagrange); his loving partner Patricia Frampton; his son Sylvain (wife, Janice); his daughter Tammy (husband Shane Glover); son Nicholas (wife, Nicola); 5 grandchildren: Rhianna, Tyler, Claire, Kayley & Lindsey; 2 brothers: René (wife, Hope), Edgar (wife, Ghislaine); as well as nephews, nieces and cousins. BLACKMORE, Wilfred Karl - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father and grandfather, Wilfred Karl Blackmore, at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, age 93 years. Predeceased by his son David Robinson "Rob"; parents William and Annie (Andrews); brother William and sisters Adeline and Frances (Gerald Hill). Predeceased by his parents Robert and Annie (Walsh); wife Bridget (Foley); infant daughter Helen; daughter Stella Burry; sister Eileen Vinnicombe; brother Bill (Joan). BUSSEY, Ronald George - Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of Ronald George Bussey. He passed peacefully away after a very courageous fight with cancer on September 19, 2014 at the Palliative Care Unit. Ron was an employee of Coopers Discount Foods and retired from The Janeway Children's Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Madeline (Brophy), daughter Beverly Anne Dunphy, father and mother John and Annie Bussey, step-mother Alma, mother and father in-law Patrick and Annie Brophy, sisters Florence, Gladys and Dot, brothers Harold, Burt and Eric, brothers-in-law Richard Clancey Ronald Brophy Alfred Mahon and Jim Kearsey, sisters-in-law Phyllis Furlong, Shirley Bussey, Olga Cancey, Jean Bussey and Isabel Bussey. Leaving to morn his son Ron (Brenda Wall), his daughter Shelly (Paul Griffin), son-in-law Paul Dunphy, grandchildren who he adored, Paul and Stephen Griffin, Tara Dunphy, Kayla (Shane Sullivan), Bradley and Brandon Bussey. Also his loving companion for 27 years Rita Walsh, and her sons David (Jennifer and John), Michael (Janine, Brooklyn and Liam), his brothers Robert (Joyce), and Alan, sisters-in-law Sandra (Noel Conway), Patsy Mahon, Julia Bussey and Anna Brophy. BUTLER, Neil Issac - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother at the Palliative Care Unit LA Miller Centre surrounded by all of his family on Wednesday September 3, 2014 at 86 years of age. Predeceased by his son Arthur in 2009. CANDOW, David Winston - (retired CBC producer and trainer). Passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014, age 74 years. Predeceased by his first wife Bonnie Lind; parents James Candow and Annie Hynes; brothers Gordie, Sandy, Izzy, Lloyd and Allan. Leaving to mourn wife Catherine (Kay) Haynes; and residing in Ontario his children Vickie Candow (Dwight Peer) and Jimmy Candow (Heather White); grandchildren Nicholas and Julia Peer and Andrew, Christopher and Taylor Candow; sisters Bertha (Don George), Dottie (Carl Hansen) and Phyllis; sisters - in - law Rose Marie Coady (Ed) and Jean Kelly (David); Kay's children Arthur, Maria, Diana and Bill, as well as special friends Bill and Marilee Wells, and other relatives and friends. CAREEN, Alphonsus (Foncy) Edward - It is with profound sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Alphonsus (Foncy) Edward Careen, age 65, at his home in Point Lance, St. Mary's Bay, surrounded by loving family and friends. Foncy was a very hard worker, dedicated to his work and family, and very respected by all who knew him. Although he went long before his time, he lived a very full life and we are so thankful for the many fond memories we shared with such a wonderful, honourable man. Foncy is predeceased by his grandfather Edward F. Careen (Neddy Frank), his stepmother Elizabeth Careen (Maudie), his good buddy Johnny McGrath, his father-in-law Gerard Careen and stepfather Augustine Nash. Left with cherished memories are his devoted wife Bernadette who stood by his side every step of the way for the past 47 years; his children Derek (Rhonda), Denise (Dave Noel), and Donna (Terry McGrath); his 6 grandchildren who he so fondly adored, Riley, Ava, Owen, Daniel, Taylor and Michael; his mother Sadie Nash; his Aunt Agnes Careen; brothers and sisters Margie (Charles), Annie (Francis), Gussie (Marie), Al (Monica), Janet (Lorne), Ambrose (Mary), Bob, Jeanie (Tim), Ed (Margie), Wanda (Walter), Melvin (Lenora), Calvin (Mabel), Terry (Angie), Anne (Raymond) and his very special sister Edwina (Donald) who stood by his side and supported him right to the very end. CHAFE (nee Kirby), Dianne - (October 27, 1949 - September 7, 2014). Passed away September 7, 2014 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, Dianne Chafe, age 64 years. Predeceased by her infant daughter Darlene, infant granddaughter Abagail, parents Cecilia and Frank Kirby and mother-in-law and father-in-law Kit and Les Chafe. Leaving to mourn her husband Howard, sons: Corry (Dawn), Francis (Karen), Scott, Greg and Jeff; grandsons Colton, Morgan and Jessie; granddaughters: Amy, Callie and Hailey; great granddaughter Madilynn; sisters: Joanne (Rod), Donna (Marty), and Bev; brothers: Ken (Hope) and Tom (Brenda); brothers-in-law: Eric (Donna), Gordon (Pauline), and Doug (Anna); sister-in-law Pearl (Duncan). CHALKER, James Richard - On September 10, 2014 in the presence of his family, James Chalker passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit. Predeceased by both sets of grandparents James R. (Margaret) Chalker and Frank (Nellie) Pardy; and cousin Holly Margaret Langin. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his son Matthew James Chalker, wife and stepdaughters Baby Lyn, Daisyree and Hidee, parents Richard and Elizabeth Chalker, sisters Mary Lynn (Roger Puddester) and Victoria Elizabeth Chalker (Michael Kirkbride), as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. CHUBBS, Gordon Eugene - It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and great grandfather Gordon Eugene Chubbs, aged 82. He passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on September 10, 2014. Predeceased by his loving wife Doreen (Constantine) in 2012, and daughter Victoria in 1989; parents Robert and Maude; brother Bob; sisters Margaret, Addie, Annie and Mary. Leaving to mourn with heavy hearts, daughters Allison and Jodi; son-in-law Keith Stanley; grandchildren Douglas, Susan (Scott Fitzpatrick), Jack and Max; great grandchildren Emma, Brody, Owen and Drew; brother Harold (Marina); sister Hilda Belbin; brother-in-law Patrick Mullins; sister-in-law Christine Constantine; and dear friends John McCarthy and Melvia Wadden with whom Gordon shared many good times. FAOUR, O.N.L., Freida Gabrielle - Passed on September 6, 2014. It is with profound sadness that the family of Freida G. Faour (nee Boulos) announces her passing in Corner Brook, NL on Saturday, September 6, 2014, in her 86th year. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Martha Boulos, her sisters, Adele Beidleman, Marie Moyer, Doris Bernardini, Theresa Lear, and her brothers, Peter, Leo and Fred. She leaves her beloved husband of 64 years, Daniel; five children, Fonse (Maureen) of St. John's, Christine (David Jones) of Coldbrook, NS, Geraldine of Ottawa, Joanne (Bernard Greene) of St. John's, and Sheila (Barry Warren) of Montreal; twelve grandchildren: David Faour (Sarah), Centreville, NS, Elizabeth Faour, St. John's, Peter Faour, Ottawa, Thomas Faour, Antigonish, NS, Daniel Massicotte (Sara), Toronto, Stephen Massicotte, Montreal, Aaron Massicotte, Coldbrook, Marcus Etchegary (Jenn), Toronto, Dominic Greene, St. John's, Danielle Greene, St. John's, Julia Warren, Montreal, Ted Warren, Montreal; one great-grandson, Ryker Etchegary, Toronto; and her brother Edward of Mississauga. Freida was born in St. John's, and came to Corner Brook after her marriage to Daniel. She was a dedicated and inspiring community leader whose impact on our province crossed the sectors of education, music and arts, municipal politics and family living. She was a leader in municipal government in the City of Corner Brook, and was seen as a champion of the environment as founder of the Humber Arm Environmental Association. Her environmental work was recognized by the establishment of the Freida Faour Environmental Scholarship for university students pursuing careers in Environmental Studies. Perhaps her greatest love was her involvement in music. She was a member of the Cathedral Choir for 64 years, including acting as its director for several years. Music was a big part of her life: she taught piano and voice, and was a music education teacher in the school system for several years; she performed in many musical endeavours in the Corner Brook area, including dance and musical theatre. She was a dedicated volunteer in her community, in particular her involvement in Canada Day committees, the Western Health Care Corporation, the Canadian Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Bay of Islands Musical Arts, the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace, the Catholic Women's League, and recently served as president of the Scottish Heritage Society of Western Newfoundland. She had an extensive community involvement while building and nurturing a wonderful marriage of over 64 years, raising five children, of whom she was extremely proud, and running a prosperous family business. In recognition of her contributions, she was admitted to the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2012. The family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Monday September 8th, at 7-9 PM, and Tuesday September 9th, 2-4 & 7-9 PM. FITZPATRICK, Doreen Mary - Doreen Mary Fitzpatrick of St. John's passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, after an extended illness. She was 87. Doreen was born Doreen Dunphy in Petries, NL, and received her early education there and in Curling. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. Doreen lived most of her adult life in Corner Brook and St. John's. She traveled extensively, enjoyed her family and friends, and followed her many interests that included the Newfoundland and Labrador Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society, painting, and playing her piano. She is survived by her daughters Nora and Sheila and sons Peter and John; her grandchildren, Jennifer Fitzpatrick and Robin Crocker; her sister Isobel and her brother Ray, as well as daughter-in-law Beulah Fitzpatrick and son-in-law Ron Crocker. She will be remembered fondly by her dear friend, Aiden Maloney. Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Fred Fitzpatrick, Q.C., in 1980; by her parents, Isabella and Alexander Dunphy; by her sisters, Phyllis, Sheila and Maureen, and by brothers Tom, Ron, Alex, and John. The Fitzpatrick family is grateful to the many health care and social services workers who assisted during Doreen's final months at Cambridge Estates, the Health Sciences Hospital, and the Holes - Escasoni Residences. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved salmon fishing in Biscay Bay River, partridge shooting on the Flakey Downs, trouting, and spending time at the cabin on Trainor's Valley Road, Horse Chops. MILLEY, Fred - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre September 6, 2014, Fred M. Milley in his 93rd year. Predeceased by his parents, Jordan and Beatrice (March), his sisters, Dorothy LeGrow, Elaine House, and Joan Carnell, his wife Margaret (MacNab) (2002) and his daughter Janet (2010). Left to celebrate a life very well lived are his sons: Peter and wife Chris Hornberger (Halifax); Doug and wife Sharon (Paradise) and grandson Gordon (Labrador City); Ian and wife Darlene Kinghorn (Halifax); and, son-in-law Douglas Coffin (Sandy Point, Maine). Fred enjoyed a very successful 30 year career with Labatt Breweries, retiring as Vice President and General Manager for Newfoundland in 1984, and subsequently served as Chair of the Port Corporation of St. John's and as a Trustee of Atlantic Blue Cross. He was also actively engaged in his community throughout his life, especially through his involvement with Kiwanis. Bride spent the first fifty-four years of her life in Harbour Grace raising a family and growing a number of successful businesses. She often spoke fondly of the people and her experiences there. She moved to St. John's where she worked and volunteered with various organizations such as the Grace Hospital and Waterford Hospital Auxiliaries. Bride loved to travel, spend time in her garden, play cards and enjoyed the company of her many feline friends, especially Sandy and Smokey. Most of all, she loved the joy of children, the pleasures of friendship and the time spent with family and all the many people who loved her. Predeceased by his parents James and Mary Walsh and brother James Junior. Leaving to mourn is his loving wife of forty years and best friend Linda (Lynn Belbin), his beautiful children Kimberly (Andrew Winter), Cheryl (Ira Layden), Melaine Walsh (Ronnie Sinyard) and son Jonathan; his precious grandchildren Nicholas, Nathan and Jorja (Layden), Lila and Ethan (Winter); sisters Mary Parsons (Jimmy), Bridget Wiseman (Larry), Patricia Hogan (Cyril); his special aunt Theresa Jackson; all his special nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Walt served 28 years with Her Majesty's Penitentiary as a warden and a captain and loved his retirement years doing farming and snow clearing. Resting at Cauls Funeral Home, Torbay, Friday 7-9 pm, Saturday and Sunday 12 noon - 9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 22 at 9:30 am from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Outer Cove. Interment to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. WHIFFEN, Maurice Gabriel - It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Maurice Gabriel Whiffen, 63, passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Saturday, September 13, 2014. He is predeceased by his parents, Gabriel and Margaret Whiffen, his sister Judy, father in law Arnold Mooney, and brother in law, Brian Mooney. Leaving to mourn is his wife and best friend of 32 years, Hannah; children Kelly, Daniel, Mark (Vicky) and Ryan (Sarah); his three grandchildren, Emma-Raye, Madisyn, and Max; his sister Patsy (Jerry) and his brother Brian. Also mourning the loss of Maurice is his mother-in-law, Ellen Mooney and a large circle of brother and sisters in law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Maurice worked with NFLD Containers for over 10 years and then moved on to form his own business for 25 years, Whiffen & Company. During this time he volunteered countless hours of his time to minor hockey in Newfoundland and Labrador. He later semi-retired and he and his wife Hannah moved to Edmonton to work and travel. A special thank you goes to Dr. Peter Venner, and the nurses and doctors of the Palliative Care Unit of the Cross Cancer Institute of Edmonton Alberta. Cremation is to take place in Edmonton, Alberta with a service held at the Chapel in Caul's Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road at a time to be announced, with a celebration of life at 18 Gladney Street following the service. WHITE, John Joseph (Jack) - Passed peacefully away on September 16,2014, Jack White. Left to mourn he's soul- mate of 34 years Brenda, Sons Shawn (Kim), Scott (Christine) Jason (Sheri), Bob, daughter Kelly (Bob). Grandchildren Shauna, Joshua, Sharon Leigh, Stacey, Ashlee, Justin, Darien and Deanne (Wanda). Great grandsons Logan and Ethan. Brother Jim (Phyllis). WHITE, Paul Joseph - (April 22, 1965 - September 30, 2014) It is with profound sadness that Maureen White and her family announces the tragic and sudden death of Paul at 49 years of age. Besides his mother and sisters, aunts and uncles Paul leaves to mourn his young son Garrett White and a multitude of nieces and nephews. While Paul's life was filled with ups and downs Garrett remained his ray of sunshine and his hope for the future. Paul's kindness and tenderness was best seen in his role as son, father and uncle. He was a good uncle to his nieces and nephews and he often served them a home cooked meal complete with leftovers. Paul's business life was spent in sales. Starting at a young age of 13 with his father at City Furniture and ending with his brother Garry at Tri Star. He stayed with the Tri Star organization as a Sales trainer and lived by the motto "There is no objection that can't be overcome". Paul lived the last of his short life by "going back to the Rock" - "going home" - a so familiar phrase for a Newf. While he missed his son terribly he loved being home with his mom and his family and having Gar visit the Rock - a place he loved so much. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home LeMarchant Road visitation on Friday, October 3 from 1p.m.-9p.m. Funeral Service at Caul's Chapel on Saturday at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

ZUBKA, Janet Loise - May 16, 1926 - September 10, 2014 Janet passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family, at the age of 88 years. Janet is survived by her children; Betty Lou (Bill), Paul and Peter; grandchildren Tami, Sandy, and Tatum; great-grandchildren Jett, Colby and Kinley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by her husband Alex and great-granddaughter Sophie.
