AGRIESTI, Bernard John
Published: September 28, 2021
August 11, 1931 - September 25, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a special father and grandfather, Bernard John Agriesti, at the age of 90. Predeceased by the love of his life Dorothy (Barnable); his parents Bernard and Hazel Agriesti; and his sister Virginia (John) Scott. Also predeceased by his sisters and brothers in-law in the Barnable family - Philomena, Sister Dorothea, Sarah, Mary, Matt, Henry, Joe, Herb, Jack, and Stan; nieces and nephews, Ken Barnable, Sheila Barlow, Jim Barnable, Howie Barnable, and Jackie Dyson. Leaving to mourn his sons and daughter Mark (Sherry), Blaine, and Luanne (Kevin) Cleary; his grandchildren, Clint and John Agriesti (and their mother Carolyn Hawkins), Olivia and Genna Cleary, and Jeff and Renee Agriesti; his brother Raymond (Rachel) Agriesti, and daughter Ramona; stepbrothers Mike (Louisa) Agriesti, and daughter Abby; Steve (Jacqueline) Agriesti, son Vinnie and daughter Nikki. Also left to mourn are a large circle of extended family and friends, including our Aunt Frances (Stan) Barnable, the only remaining one of our Barnable aunts and uncles. Dad will be especially missed by his son Blaine, whom he resided with for the last 4+ years when he needed care, where he was much more than just a father, but also his best friend. Dad was born in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1931. He graduated from Annapolis High School where he was inducted a member of the Wall of Fame for his significant contribution in many areas. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 - 1954 and was stationed at Pepperrell Air Force Base in St. John's, Newfoundland, and received an Honorable Discharge. During those years, he traveled throughout Newfoundland, Labrador, Greenland, and Iceland, fixing electronic military equipment and infrastructure. During those years as well, but more importantly, Dad met our mother Dorothy, at Frost's Restaurant in St. John's, and they were instantly connected by way of the sister colonies of Ferryland and Maryland, their corresponding homes. They were married in 1956 and shared a beautiful, devoted life together. Dad earned a B.Sc. degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, followed by the designation of CPA with the State of Maryland. While in Maryland, he worked at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis as the Director of Accounting and spent many evenings traveling to Baltimore furthering his education. Dad recently had the opportunity to revisit Annapolis MD one last time, to see the area where he grew up and visit his relatives, as well as a luncheon with friends who he went to school with, special mention of Ida-Ann (Sears) Dunagan who was his host for lunch on another day. He also had the opportunity to visit his father's gravesite with his stepbrother Mike in Centerville, after which he was hospitably treated to a good old American dinner. He passed just 9 days after returning to Newfoundland, and his last supper, which is worthy of noting, was a big feed of Cod tongues. He was a tireless worker, building our home, and its extension on evenings and weekends while working at Memorial University, where he was the Comptroller from 1974 until his retirement at the age of 57 in 1988. He did virtually all the carpentry, electrical, and plumbing himself. The words "I can't" were never part of his vocabulary until recently. Also, he taught school in Calvert in the early 1960's, where he is fondly and gratefully remembered by his former students as an outstanding teacher whose vision was ahead of the times. He also spent many hours volunteering on many community groups including the Ferryland Athletic Association, Ferryland Historical Society, Historic Ferryland Museum, the Colony of Avalon Foundation, the Irish Loop Regional Economic Development Board, the Holy Trinity Parish Finance Committee, the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation Of St John's, and the Seniors Resource Centre to name a few. He was also a member of the Canadian Legion, and the American Legion where he served as Commander from 1994 - 1997 and 1999 - 2000. He was instrumental in starting and organizing youth softball and basketball programs for kids in Ferryland. Dad was a man of integrity with a kind, selfless heart, and he was a true gentleman, always doing something for someone. We are immensely grateful to Dr. Ean Parsons for providing Dad with excellent medical care over the years, as well as to the emergency room staff of the Health Sciences Centre for their care in his final hours, firefighter Gerry O'Neill for his quick action in reviving him, and to his home care worker Clare who was always available when needed. To be included also, are all those involved with his care during his Heart bypass surgery in 2001, his bout with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2005, and his Multi-Focal Stroke episodes in 2017 and 2018. Special mention of his nephew, Wayne Barnable, who spent many days driving Dad from Ferryland to St. John's and back, while he was receiving chemotherapy. After all that, he still lived a quality life for another 3+ years in his own apartment with his son. Dad was unique as an individual and contributed monumentally throughout his lifetime. Cremation has already taken place. Waking at Caul's Funeral Home on LeMarchant Rd, St. John's on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday, September 30th, 2021 at 2 pm at Holy Trinity Church, Ferryland and can be live streamed from here. Inurnment to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ferryland. The Funeral will be live-streamed for anyone unable to attend. A link will be provided once available. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made payable to: Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34 - Ferryland, P.O. Box 185, Ferryland, NL A0A 2H0

BUTT, Geraldine "Anne" (Snow)
Published: October 09, 2021

Passed away on September 22, 2021, at Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, after a brief illness. Anne was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, the firstborn of Gerald Worrell Snow and Evelyn Batstone. In 1953 she moved to St. John's to study nursing at the General Hospital. After marrying in 1957, the following years were busy as she moved around Newfoundland for her husband's RCMP career while raising her four daughters. Anne continued her nursing career at various times, as the first school nurse in Bonavista, a pediatric nurse in Corner Brook, and a geriatric nurse at Glenbrook Lodge in St. John's. In 1984, Anne moved to Toronto to be closer to her mother, continuing her nursing career at various City of Toronto long-term care homes. During her years in Ontario, Anne's spirited and outgoing personality helped her make friends from many cultures, enjoying concerts and movies, and dances, dinners and activities at the Canadian Legions. She loved reading throughout her life, especially autobiographies. Though dementia had started to rob her of her normal activities, she loved listening to music to the end. Her greatest love though was for her four daughters. On special occasions, like Mother's Day, she would not leave her condo until she had spoken to all four of them. In later years, she enjoyed hearing about the antics and achievements of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and never missed a birthday or special occasion. Anne leaves behind her four daughters: Paula, Judy, Elizabeth and Andrea; sons-in-law, John Alexander and Dan McCurdy; grandchildren, Sarah (Chris), Laura (Curtis), Ben and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Liam and Anna. Anne also leaves to mourn her brothers David and Gerald, sister-in-law Adelia, nieces and nephews, Heather, Chris, Carla, Ralena and Andrew, sister-in-law Ascenith and family, and many other relatives and friends. DONOVAN, Mary Lydia (Molly)
Published: September 24, 2021
December 26, 1945 - September 21, 2021

Molly passed away peacefully on September 21, 2021 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family, who will continue to honour her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Gifted with cherished memories are her husband of 56 years Bill, and her children John (Marnie), Paul (Angela), Bill (Donna), Karen (Chris), and Mary Anne (Travis), along with her adored grandchildren Dylan, Billy, Sophie, Emma, Norah, Liam, and Penelope, and her beloved sister, Mercedes Singer. Molly was predeceased by members of the O'Brien and Donovan families for whom she cared deeply, especially her mother, Mary O'Brien. Although her beautiful presence will be missed, her spirit will forever captivate those who shared their lives with her, especially her family and large circle of dearest friends. Molly's infectious smile brightened every room she graced. Her quick, brilliant wit and generous spirit changed the lives of those around her. While raising her energetic brood of five, Molly devoted much of her time and gifts to their school communities. Her door, and most importantly her kitchen, was always open to an animated clan of friends and neighbours. Molly's kind heart and unreserved love was a comfort to those who in turn loved her, especially in her final days. Molly was a proud Nanny, embracing every opportunity to celebrate her grandchildren's talents and personalities. She had a special bond with each. In tune with their interests and joys, she gave them the greatest gifts: her time, her attention, and her love. Molly lived most of her childhood with her sisters in Belvedere Orphanage. There she had an extended family of classmates. After decades apart, many of those special friendships and sisterhoods were rekindled, with an extraordinary shared vision to live with gratitude for the days ahead. She had a thirst for learning and an unmatched creative spark. Her resourceful hand in the kitchen and astonishing knack for making something from nothing kept everyone's bellies happy and full. She warmed and adorned many folks through the long, cold Newfoundland winters with her beautiful knitwear and handwoven creations. Her love for quality, handmade treasures will transcend generations. Molly and Bill were lifelong members of the Benevolent Irish Society and spent many Friday nights and St. Paddy's Days with their dear friends. Molly loved a good tune, a dance floor and the dynamic shenanigans that ensued; it was at the storied BIS dances and dart nights that many of her longest and most treasured friendships were made. Molly lived with gratitude for each and every day, and held fast to her conviction that today would be even better than yesterday. Her final years may have been met with health challenges but her bright and active nature was never dulled. Molly still loved to cut a rug with her line dancing and Zumba friends and meet for coffee dates and walks. Armed with determination, grace and strength, she continued to amaze and inspire those around her until her life's end on this earth. The Donovan family would like to express its immense gratitude to Dr. Ahmad, as well as all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre and Units 4 North A and B for their compassion and care throughout her cancer treatment. Dr. Karen Downton, in particular, was a constant, comforting presence for both Molly and family in the final weeks of Molly's life and guided them through difficult moments with a gentle hand and heart. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Gokul Vidyasankar, who played an instrumental role in Molly's health journey. Upon diagnosis with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in October 2016, Molly's fierce strength prevailed. Through Dr. Vidyasankar's deep knowledge and advocacy for IPF patients, Molly received the care and guidance she needed and surpassed expectations. In lieu of flowers, donations in Molly's memory can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Molly's life will be celebrated with visitation at Caul's Funeral Home on 84 LeMarchant Road on Thursday, September 23 from 7:00-9:00 pm; Friday, September 24 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm; and Friday, September 24 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Basilica Cathedral on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 am. Those who wish to attend the Funeral Mass must register with the family, or at the Parish Office 754-2170. DOOLING, Regina Marie
Published: October 02, 2021
Born: June 4, 1964,
Passed: September 30, 2021, Age 57.
Regina (Jeannie) Marie Dooling
was surrounded by family as she left this earth to dance her way through the gates of heaven. Waiting with huge smiles, and open arms to squeeze her tight, is her father Leonard (predeceased October 2017), and brother-in-law and favourite walking buddy Randy Oliver (predeceased August 2018). Regina is also predeceased by her grandparents James and Christina Dooling and Patrick and Louise Finn. Regina's life should not be remembered for her battle with Early Onset Dementia. Rather, it should be celebrated for her fierce and positive attitude towards life. From an early age, Regina excelled academically - with classmates frequently ranking their progress against Regina who always ranked either first or second in her class (a spot she shared interchangeably with her closest cousin Liane). Regina was a strong and forward thinking woman excelling in a male dominated profession - architectural engineering technology. Much of her work can be enjoyed by hikers who use the Grand Concourse Walking Trail System. In addition to excelling academically and professionally, Regina had a keen sense of fashion - always "dressed to the nines" and with her hair and makeup done to perfection! Regina is survived by her Mother, Veronica; her twin children Jared and Mackenzie Rees (Nick); and her siblings who traveled the Journey with her each and every day advocating and leaving no stone unturned to ensure she had the best care possible - Rita (Randy predeceased), Jim (Cindy), Genevieve (Gig), Leonard (Carolyn), and Bonnie (Kurt). Also left to celebrate her life are her nieces and nephews - Trishy, Kayla (Godchild), Christina, Jack (Godchild), Liam and Nicholas. A special thank you is extended to her many friends, especially Doug, Liane, Rhonda, Edna and Ros. Regina's biological family would be remiss if they did not acknowledge the special gift of a 'second family' that Jeannie was given during her Journey - the entire Nursing Staff at 2SW Pleasantview Towers. Thank you for the care and compassion you showed, not only to Regina, but to each and every one of us. The family would also like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Susan Mercer, Dr. Allison Hillman, Dr. Bodie, Dr. Essaji and Dr. Elizabeth Callahan. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Caul's Funeral Home with funeral arrangements to be announced. As Regina loved all things beautiful, flowers will be gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the NL Alzheimer's Society.

HALL, Michael Hackett
Published: September 25, 2021

Age 87 of Bedford. Our dad Michael died on September 20th, 2021. He was a kind man who everyone loved. He was soft spoken, easy going, and had a love of sailboats and books. He was meticulous and detailed in everything he did. He was never wasteful, always thinking about others who were less fortunate, and he worried about the environment long before it became a common concern. Dad was born on Woods Island, Bay of Islands, NFLD. He eventually moved to Pasadena where he and mom built the family home and raised their children. Dad worked many jobs early on, but settled into a career as an Accountant in the business office of Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook NFLD. He retired early at which time he and mom relocated to Nova Scotia to be closer to dad's brothers and to pursue their love of sailing and travel. Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's in his mid 70's, but like everything else, he did not complain, he read everything he could find on Parkinson's and he still continued to live his life without reservation. When our family were thinking about writing this obituary for our dad, the words most used to describe him were kind, loving, generous, thoughtful, considerate, and attentive…he will be incredibly missed. Dad is survived by his wife Ida Mary (Batt) of 60 years, his four children ~ Gary, Pauline (Peter), Robert, and Pamela (Eric). His two granddaughters, Sarah and Brooklyn. His great grandson, James. His brother, Clifford (Ella) Hall, sister in laws June Hall and Hattie McWilliams, and brother in laws Raymond (Hazel) Batt and William (Marilyn) Batt. He is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Anne (Hackett) Hall, stepmother, Bella (Leonard) Hall, and his brother Paul "Bud" Hall. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to friends and staff of Horizon Court in Dartmouth, Parkland Estates in Dartmouth and especially of his final home, Northwood Ivany Place in Bedford, NS. A small intimate service will be held 2 PM Tuesday September 28th, 2021 at Cole Harbour Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.coleharbourfuneral.com

HAYES, Florence Alice (nee Brown)
Published: September 15, 2021
August 1, 1938 - September 12, 2021

It's with heavy and grateful hearts, the family of Florence Hayes announce her peaceful passing at the age of 83. Florence married her high school sweetheart, Bill Hayes, in 1957. They went on to raise their family in Gander, and then Cupids. Maintaining a career as a telephone operator while being a mother and wife, she enthusiastically welcomed family and friends into their home on a regular basis. Grandchildren quickly became a cherished addition to the family and Mom welcomed them with the purist of love. She led a hands-on life and never scoffed at hard work. Mom believed in the power of prayer, the importance of family, and the delight of a good game of Bingo or a few scratch tickets. At the age of 51, Mom had to rely on love, courage, strength, and determination to continue her family's legacy following the death of our father, Bill. She loved to be surrounded by family. Her devotion to her children and grandchildren had her travelling far and wide to celebrate the milestones in their lives. From babysitting grandkids to hosting regular Sunday dinners; from attending school concerts and dance recitals to freezing her butt off watching sporting events; from travelling between provinces to graduations to taking flight for destination weddings, she relished it all. Her sense of adventure and sense of humor complemented her nurturing, open-minded and selfless personality, making her loved beyond measure by all those that knew her. At the young age of 73, Mom was fortunate to find companionship and love once again. With Bern, Mom became a seasoned traveller, visiting places she had only read about. For 10 wonderful years they loved life and each other. Florence was predeceased by: her husband, William Hayes, her parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Brown, her parents-in-law, Ronald and Mary Hayes, her sister, Irene French, her brother, Thomas Brown, her brother-in-law, Michael Hayes, and her sister-in-law, Margaret Hayes. Florence will be forever remembered by: her loving partner, Bern Kennedy, her 7 children: Jackie (Perry), Peggy, Cathy Ann (Randy), Denise (Jim), Donna (Ron), Michele (Rick) and Bill (Lisa), her 14 grandchildren: Mandy (Wayne), Mark (Tiffany), Nicole, Robert (Sabrina), Adam (Renee), Adrian (Katie), Karen (Nic), Ed-ward, William (Joanna), Richard, Jason (Natasha), Emma, Christopher (Allison) and Michael, her 7 great grandchildren: Aaron, Max, Denison, Mikenna, Gavin, Reid, and Nolan, her siblings and sibling-in-laws: Daphne (John), George (Isabel), Daniel, Gerald, Agnes, Patricia, Ed (Joan), Dorothy (Jim), Ron, and Donna (Tom), Bern's chil-dren and grandchildren: Bern (Sherry and Jack), Ann-Marie (Doug, Kate, Nicole), RM (Lisa) and MANY nieces and nephews whom she adored as well as numerous close family friends. Many thanks go to Dr. Matthew Verge, Dr. Erin Powell, Dr. Noreen Fardy, and Dr. Megan Hayes. for treatment, advice, and or/ guidance during this time. Florence was blessed to be able to remain at home during her last days. Her children were assisted by the best team anyone could hope for; supported by Lori (Community Health Bay Roberts) and Mark #1 and Mark #2 (Paramedics Providing Palliative Care Pilot Program Carbonear) who were exceptional in providing care and went above and beyond. Florence will be missed greatly. Resting at Broughton's Funeral Home, Brigus with visitation on: Monday, September 13th 7-9pm and Tuesday, September 14th 10am-12pm, 2-4pm, 7-9pm. Funeral to take place on Wednesday, September 15th at 10:30am at St. Patrick's Parish. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to the Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.

Left to celebrate his life are his beloved wife of 52 years Helen, daughters Natalie (Furlong) and Nicole, cherished grandchildren Brynn and Jack Furlong, mother-in-law Florence George, sisters Louise (Keith) Evans and Margaret (Michael Jass), aunts Kathleen Garland and Myra McWilliams, brother-in-law Noel (Gloria) George, nephews and nieces Rhonda (Pat) Doyle, Bill (Katya), Chris (Tammy), Matthew (Lyndsay) and Sam, Victoria (Greg) Downey, and Daniel George (Deanna). Predeceased by his parents Walter and Mildred (Thistle), sister Elinor and brother David. Peter grew up in St. John's and graduated from Memorial University. He began his career with the Auditor General's Office, obtaining his Chartered Accountant designation in 1974. He then partnered with his father Walter to grow a successful local chartered accountancy practice, Walter P. Miller & Co. He completed his professional career as a partner at Noseworthy Chapman where he had the unique joy of working with his daughter Nicole again before retiring in 2014. In his retirement years, he enjoyed life at his happy place - a magnificent home he built with his own two hands on the Salmonier Line. He faced each opportunity and challenge in life as the gentleman he was - with grace, humour, and unwavering strength. Peter was a light to everyone around him, living by example and sharing his wisdom and kindness. His most joyous and special moments were spent hunting and fishing with his father and brother, then later in life sharing that passion with his grandson. Hitting the open road on his Harley Davidson, gardening and woodworking, watching his grandchildren's sporting events and any time spent with his family and friends were his favorite activities. He taught us lessons of honesty, loyalty, integrity, selflessness, and the importance of loved ones. For this we are grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peter's honor to VOWR. The volunteer-run radio station provided Pete great joy through music and their Sunday Christian programming. He missed it recently when their tower was destroyed by Hurricane Larry. Donations can be sent to VOWR 800 AM Radio, P.O. Box 26006, St. John's, NL A0E 0A5 or online at www.VOWR.ORG   Due to COVID-19 precautions, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held later and live streamed on www.barretts.ca for friends and family who are unable to attend.

Leaving to mourn husband Shawn, daughter Danielle (Jim Moore), son Simon Babineau (Karen Rehner), granddaughter Rebecca Chervin, brother Robert Bishop (Dawn) and a wide circle of relatives and friends throughout Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia. An early stint in the Royal Canadian Navy led to a peripatetic existence for several years followed by motherhood and then a second career as a teacher in locations around Newfoundland and Labrador. Retirement brought Marilyn and Shawn to Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley and ironically to the community where she did her basic training in the Navy. Beyond her teaching career, Marilyn was perhaps more interested in, and certainly enjoyed much more, her always active interest in theatre as an actress and director, in choral singing in several different groups and in the company of friends and family. Cremation has taken place under the care of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday September 7, 2021 from St. Luke's Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, with Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating. There will be no interment at this time. We also wish to extend a very special thank you to the staff and residents of Callingwood Downs who loved and cared for Teresa and who are mourning her loss along with us. Visitation will take place at Slade's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay on Friday, September 17 at 10:30 A.M.-12 Noon, 2-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.m. and Saturday, September 18 at 10:30 A.M.-12 Noon with the Funeral Mass to follow at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Riverhead Harbour Grace at 1 P.M. This will be by invitation only. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland, Baccalieu Trail SPCA or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Harbour Grace. Born June 18, 1933, Teresa was the eldest of 12 children. Her parents operated a farm which was a family affair as she, along with her siblings, pitched in to help especially with harvesting and 'making hay' in the fall. Her father, a great musician, delivered eggs and milk to the local community with his horse and cart, and on occasion would drive Doc Cron to attend to his patients. Teresa has a great appreciation for education and excelled in her studies, receiving a scholarship form the Knights of Columbus to attend Littledale College in St. John's where she met many of her lifelong friends while mastering her secretarial skills. Continuing to excel in her education, she was hired by Baron, Hickman and Lewis Law Firm on Duckworth Street in advance of her graduation day. Inheriting a devotion to family from her parents and a respect for the dollar from the family farm, she strived, as her siblings did in their time, to bring the family good fortune. She used her first wages to improve her family's living conditions by purchasing a ringer washer and linoleum flooring among other transforming amenities of the day. In the mid 1950's, she returned to Harbour Grace and accepted a secretarial position at North Eastern Fisheries as Private Secretary for Si Moores. Shortly after that, Joe O'Neill took the position of book keeper, love blossomed and in 1958 they were married. Teresa carried herself with grace and elegance and along with her sister Marg, and many close friends, had a vibrant social life. She was also active in the community through church, Knights of Columbus, and theatre and drama clubs and shared her positivity for the future with everyone she met. In 1960, with the encouragement of good friends Harry and Clare Gregory, Teresa and Joe took the plunge into entrepreneurship by purchasing the Bond Theatre in Spaniard's Bay and converting it into a grocery store, Shop & Save Supermarket. Living in Spaniard's Bay, Teresa continued to be active in the Harbour Grace Parish helping to organize church celebrations and building a strong community of friends. She loved participating with and encouraging her children to explore music and sports and along with Gustav Reinhart, she possibly never missed a St. Francis hockey game; the greatest fans of their time. Always eager to take on a new challenge, she learned how to play the guitar which she loved until her passing. She also picked up softball in her 40's. Her backstop catch and tag "you're out" in the final inning of a championship game was a memory she cherished. It brought a great smile every time she told the story. Raising a family came naturally. Her calm and loving nature created an environment where her family could enjoy life's greatest offerings to the fullest. The never ending list of activities she pursued with Joe are a testament to their times and outlook on life. Spending Christmas holidays at their cabin in Deer Park with Bernice and Peter Blake, Betty and Tom O'Reilly, among others, were special moments for her. Times, however, were changing in the 1980's and seeing another entrepreneurial opportunity she suggested to Joe, the gardening addict, to start offering the multitude of plants he had to their supermarket patrons. Thus the beginning of a new career. After 30 years in the supermarket business they embraced Joe's hobby and started O'Neill's Gardenland. Teresa was the cornerstone of the new venture continuing with her accounting and managing skills and she soon found herself spending most of her time with her greenhouse colleagues growing and nurturing plants. Those were happy times for her. Working with her great friend Marion Sheppard, there was continuous laughter coming from the greenhouses day after day. Her joy was infectious and enhanced the lives of everyone around her. All through her life she had a sharp mind. She never waivered from the work ethic she developed while attending Littledale. The business books were balanced to the penny every time. Even during the final years when Dementia set in, she could make you laugh with her quick wit. Her grace and compassion for others always made her look on the bright side. She often reflected on her parents and the appreciation and thankfulness they had for their family's health and happiness; something she even showed through the hard times of dementia. As her children, we are fortunate and thankful to be part of the Coady and Hearn families. Teresa's love for everyone will flow through us and we are grateful that there are so many voices calling her name and remembering her for the graceful lady she was. Condolences may be written to the family at: sladesfuneralhome.ca on the Memory Wall section of the obituary. For further information please call Slade's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay at 786-1612. During these exceptionally difficult times, we at Slade's Funeral Home are exercising ways to ensure public safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. ROSTOTSKI, Jill
Published: September 04, 2021

Heaven better be ready. Jill Rostotski of St John's (formerly Dawe of Gander) has just upgraded her accommodations and Saint Peter better have the gates shined up because she is definitely going to notice. Our sweet spitfire fought cancer tooth and highly manicured nail for more than 14 years. With enough life force to power a small-town Jill lived big and loved even bigger. Lorne, her devoted and loving husband of 51 years and Sara, her treasured only child, are left with extreme gratitude for the precious life they were blessed to experience. Jill's 2 granddaughters, Aydan and Asha, were her pride and joy. She was blessed with the years she got to enjoy them. Not one to mince words she would be happy to tell you exactly what she thought at any given moment. She solved problems before they arose and took care of everyone around her with an ease that is unmatched. Her 71 years of wisdom was freely shared with her vast number of friends and loved ones. She made friends instantly and was a solid rock for those she loved. The last difficult months were bravely faced with so much help from her sisters Nancy and Wendy, brother Ron, life long dear friend Katherine. Your help is forever appreciated. Jill enjoyed the company of her mother Marie Dawe - who is now 91 - for her whole life. No doubt her father Eric Dawe was there to meet her as she arrived in heaven with a plan about how they can make the place just a little better with her help. Also blessed to be in her family are Sara's husband Norm, brother Randy and Vickie, brother Wendell and Penney, brother-in-law Boris and Michelle, brother-in-law Gerry and her 8 nieces and nephews who were so special to her. The family will be having a visitation on Friday, September 3rd from 4-8pm at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Daffodil Place. In lieu of mourning, gratitude can be offered to God for the remarkable gift He gave the world when He created Jill. Baxter passed peacefully away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, in Gander, at age 72. Blessed with many cherished and happy memories are his loving wife of 53 years Jean (nee Shave), daughters Collette (Scott McKenna) and Jean-Ann (Kevin Thompson), much loved grandchildren Bethany, Nicole, and Alison, sister Pat (Paul Noftle) and brothers Gordon (Agnes) and Berkley (Viola), sisters-in-law Ruby, Joan Kane, and brother-in-law Harold Shave (Susan), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Bax is predeceased by his parents Don and Elsie, brothers Lloyd and Frank, and brother-in-law Dave Kane. Born in North Harbour, Placentia Bay in 1948. From an early age he had a passion for aviation. He enjoyed a 40-year career as a helicopter pilot, flying throughout Newfoundland & Labrador, which inspired a number of young people to pursue careers in aviation. Baxter's life was full of adventure, as an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, an RCMP constable, a hunting lodge outfitter, and founder of a helicopter company. We will miss his lively debates on politics, and daily weather briefs. Impressions of a Pilot Flight is freedom in its purest form, To dance with the clouds Which follow a storm; To roll and glide, to wheel and spin, To feel the joy that swells within; To leave the earth with its troubles and fly, And know the warmth of a clear spring sky; Then back to earth at the end of a day, Released from the tensions which melted away. Should my end come while I am in flight, Whether brightest day or darkest night; Spare me your pity and shrug off the pain, Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again; For each of us is created to die, And within me I know I was born to fly. -Gary Claude Stokor Family and friends were received at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander, on Wednesday, September 8th, 2021 between the hours of 12:00pm and 4:00pm. SMITH, Roland Calvin

With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Roland Smith on September 28, 2021, at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply mourned by his cherished and deeply loved wife Barbara (nee Prince). They met in 1962, not long after he first came to Toronto in 1961. After sweeping her off her feet, they were married on February 2, 1963. Roland was born on April 14, 1942 in Bishop's Cove, Newfoundland to the late Ralph and Rebecca Smith (nee Vokey). He was the youngest of twelve children. Loving brother of Ralph (Jean), Isaac (Lorraine) and Sybil Taylor (the late Ted). Brother-in-law of Doris Smith and Winnie Smith. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters; Josiah, Virginia Gifford (the late Bill), Patsy Gosse (the late Ron), Azariah (the late Helen), Chesley, Elizabeth Mercer (the late Max) Marcella Newman (the late Howard) and a baby sister Gwen. Loving brother-in-law of Marina Barrett (the late Nathaniel) (Lloyd Molyneaux), Ivy Prince (the late Gerald), Cynthia Maloney (Leo) Mabel King (Allan), Glenys Duke (Maurice) and Rosalind Prince. Predeceased by sister-in-law Eileen Spurrell. A very special uncle to Gloria Morgan (Boyd), the late Terry Barrett (Brenda), Bernice Rose (Cyril), Denise Crane (Kirk) and Shelley Kraft (Steve). Survived by many, many nieces and nephews, who each have a unique memory and place in their hearts for their Uncle Roland. Roland completed his working career at Quebecor Printing in Aurora but spent most of his working career at McLean Hunter Printing in Toronto, where he was the Supervisor of Purchasing in the Printing Department. He also worked at Burroughs Business Machines as a young man. Roland was a very talented artist - creating model boats and beautiful oil paintings even teaching himself to sew. A family favourite was a sculpture he made of the RCA dog. Roland's love of singing and playing guitar was well-known and enjoyed by many from all over especially remembering friends from his Church and at their winter home at Briar Creek in Safety Harbor, Fl and as recently as their new home at Sunrise of Aurora. He and Barb returned often to Newfoundland, mainly to Charleston, Barb's home as a young girl, and to the Bishop's Cove area, where he grew up. His other passion was collecting antique toys and his thrill of finding them. However his pride and joy was his frost turquoise coloured 1967 Mustang. He and Barb could be seen on sunny days heading out for a drive, full of smiles. After Roland (Rolly) retired, he spent several winters in Florida with Barb, enjoying happy times with family and friends. At home in Newmarket, he was a dedicated volunteer at St. Paul's Anglican Church. He and Barb were members of a group of walking enthusiasts at the Upper Canada Mall for years. Roland's greatest skill were his people skills. He was able to bring people together, while making every individual feel like they were the most important person in the room. There are few people that were as easy to speak with. He always made you feel loved and appreciated. Our family is forever grateful for the incredible expertise and kindness of all the doctors, nurses and staff at Southlake Regional Hospital for taking such care with both Uncle Roland and Aunt Barb. In memory of Roland, donations can be made to Southlake Regional Hospital at give Southlake.ca or a charity of your choice. Roland was also a lifetime blood donor.
