ANTHONY, Robert M. - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex on Friday, September 24th, 1999, Robert Anthony in his 71st year of Avondale. Left with fond and loving memories are his devoted wife of 37 years Theresa (nee Mason), his son, Rodney, his daughter, Wanda (Derm) Croke, his very special friend Kelly Ann Costello, and two sisters: Anna Nolan, Mary Flannigan (Edward), all of Avondale. Predeceased by husband, Sgt. David Barrett; parents; Moses and Isabelle Gosse; and brother Douglas. Leaving to mourn one daughter Donna, Spaniard's Bay; one son Fr. Douglas Barrett (Gwendolyn), Bell Island; five grandchildren; Angela Marie, Amanda Mary, Michael David, David William, Robert James; one great-grandchild, Ryan David; also brother Nathan Gosse (Ann), Hr. Predeceased by her husband John, 1992; sons; Steve, 1998; and grandson Junie, 1999. Passed away Thursday, September 23, 1999, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, George Frederick Burry at the age of 71. He will be sadly missed by his wife Millicent (nee Oxford); three children; Brian Burry (Renee), Brenda Pike (Bram), Gloria Champagne (Denis); grandchildren; Tyler and Devan Burry, Skyler Pike, Gabriel and Alexandra Champagne; sisters; Ruby Dunphy (George), Helen Burry, Louise Burry Poole; brother Albert Burry (Edith); sisters and brothers-in-law; Basil and Masie Oxford of Tennessee, Pearl and George Rose, Marie Oxford, Roy Oxford, Norval and Mabel Oxford, Marion and Bill Binder, Joyce and George Rowsell, Irene Hann; and numerous other relatives and friends. Gordon held the positions of Chief Building Inspector for the City of Westmount and was Secretary of the Architectural and Planning Commission for 31 years. He was instrumental in developing a zoning by-law adopted in 1963 for the Westmount Housing Project on Hillside Avenue. He loved the game of golf and played as often as possible. He was a member of the Kanawaki Golf Club and the Links O'Tay Golf Club for a number of years until his health would not allow him to enjoy the game any longer. Predeceased by his son George and daughter Carol. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his devoted wife Alma; son Hartley and wife Linda of New Jersey; other relatives and many friends in Newfoundland, the United States and Bahamas. George was a member of: Jephtham Lodge #233F and AM for 53 years, member of Lodge Conception #1679 S.C., member of First Colony Lodge of Installed Masters #29 Newfoundland and Labrador, member of Scottish Rite Valley of St. John's and New Jersey, USA. Stead, Archibald Ernest (Arch) Passed suddenly, but peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John's on Monday, September 6th, 1999, surrounded in love by his family and close friends, a loving and devoted husband, father and best friend, Archibald (Arch) Ernest Stead, age 48 years, of Catalina. Predeceased by brother Alton (1972). He leaves with fond and loving memories his wife of 23 years, Bonnie (Ryder). Loving son of Kenneth and Mildred Stead, Little Catalina; brother of Alfred Smith (Selbe), Chapel Arm, Elsie Dalton (Gerry), Little Catalina and Chrissie Donovan (Gerard), Catalina, Ken (Wanda), Little Catalina, Levi (Bertina), Yellowknife, NWT, Randy (Charmaine), Bonavista, Max, Red Deer, Alberta, Melvin, Little Catalina, Tim (Beverly), Little Catalina and families; son-in-law of Oscar Ryder, Bonavista; brother-in-law of Marvin (Roseann), Bonavista, Wayne (Ruby), Mount Pearl, Ross (Fran), Carbonear, Glenn (Shirley), Mount Pearl and families; Godson Dion Ryder, Mount Pearl and best friend Ray Chard, Catalina, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Arch will be sadly missed by his friends at the Catalina-Port Union-Melrose Volunteer Fire Dept., where he had been a member for 11 years; by the Catalina Historic Society (Catalina Museum) of which he was Chairperson and Founding Member; by the Catalina 500th Celebrations/Come Home Year Committee and the Catalina Recreation Commission where he voluntered unfailingly as well as by many other organizations in the area to which he lent a helping hand. Williams, Eric Patrick
Passed away suddenly while working on his farm on his 61st Birthday, September 6, 1999. He will be forever missed by his loving and devoted wife Rosemary (nee Scott); Ray (Darlene, Raylene, Hilary and Rebecca); Wanda; Crosbie (Madonna); Kelly (David); Sheila; Jodi, Scott (Cherie, Ashley, Tayler). Also leaving to mourn special nephew Terry Power. In addition, his family; Alan (Emma), John (Betty), Bill, Patricia, Ruth(Albert), Anne (Ralph), Sharon (Gale); sister-in-law Patsy Williams; in-laws; Betty and Ed Power, Dot and John Everard, Mollie and Joe O'Brien, George Scott, and John and Marg Scott. He also left an extensive network of family and friends who will never forget him. Eric worked as a farmer in the Goulds throughout his life. He was involved in a number of agricultural organizations including the Newfoundland Milk Marketing Board (Past Chariman and current member), Dairy Farmers of Canada (Director),and the Goulds Agriculture Society (Prisident since its inception). Eric was a recipient of the Governor General's Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. He was also a long standing member of the St. John's Choir and the St. Kevin's Parish Choir. YOUNG, Mary Elizabeth (May) Foxtrap - Passed peacefully away at The L.A. Miller Centre on September 4, 1999, in her 88th year. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Reuben, daughters: Betty Corner (John); and three children in infancy: David, Willis and Jeanette. She will be greatly missed by her son: Reginald (Belinda); her foster son Bill Penny (Jacqueline), New Brunswick; and her daughters: Edith Allen, Montreal; Violet Hussy, Hilda Fagan, Edwina Porter (Sam), Judy Cairnes (John), Nova Scotia; Lorraine Rideout (Menzel), Roselind Eddy (Rod), Edith Masters (Wayne); and her 32 other grandchildren, her 35 great grandchildren, her 8 great-great grandchildren and her many dear friends. Resting at the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews until noon on Tuesday, September 7, 1999. Funeral service to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at All Saints Church, Foxtrap.
