LANE - Elizabeth Shirley (Byrne) Lane
, 70, of Ayer, formerly of Maynard, died peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2010 with her family by her side after a long struggle with cancer. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine Byrne. Mrs. Lane settled in Maynard with family at the age of 15, and graduated from the Maynard schools. She enjoyed helping and caring for others, and was employed for 19 years at the Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Concord, where she was a Certified Nursing Assistant and the Activities Coordinator. She also enjoyed providing home care to area families. An Ayer resident for the past 17 years, she enjoyed feeding the birds, reading and shopping.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a longtime supporter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. (ASPACA). Mrs. Lane was predeceased by two sons, Paul Lane Jr. and Maurice Lane. She is survived by her five children, Theresa Pierce and husband William E. of Winchendon, Christine Zagwyn and husband David, with whom she made her home in Ayer, Elizabeth Morreale and husband John of Lunenburg, Matthew Lane and wife Stacy of Sterling, and Catherine Coulter and husband Mark of Ayer; eleven grandchildren and a great-grandson. She was the sister of Mary Westcott of Maynard, and Kevin and Patrick Byrne both of St. John's, Newfoundland, and the late Richard Byrne Jr., Gerald Byrne Sr. And Jean Byrne. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Lane - Elizabeth Shirley (Byrne) Lane, of Ayer, formerly Maynard, May 2, 2010. Visiting Friday, May 7th, from 5-8 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave., (Rte 111) Acton. Funeral Mass Sat. May 8th at 9 A.M. in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival St., Maynard, with burial in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Great Rd (Rte 117) Maynard. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the A.S.P.C.A., attn: Linda Tiramani, 520 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018.

She was born in St. John's, Newfoundland Shirley was a registered nurse She is survived by by her daughter, Kate Daniels; and son, Gerald "Cliff" Rademaker. There will be no service. Arrangements by Simon Woodburn Funeral Chapel.
