BENOIT, Alice M., nurse

Alice M. Benoit
, 90, a nurse who retired in 1992 after working at the Rayburn House Office Building for 25 years, died April 19 at an assisted-living facility in Melbourne, Fla.
She had pneumonia, said her daughter, Moya Benoit Thompson. Mrs. Benoit lived for more than four decades in Fairfax County before moving to Florida in 2007.
Mrs. Benoit cared for members of Congress, their staff members, tourists and others during her career with the office of the attending physician at the Capitol.
She previously was a nurse with the U.S. Public Health Service and, before that, head nurse at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, where her husband was stationed by the Air Force.
Alice Mary Battcock was a native of St. John's, Newfoundland, and she received a nursing degree from St. John's General Hospital School in 1944.
After immigrating to the United States in 1945, she served for four years in the Army Nurse Corps and became a U.S. citizen in 1948.
Her husband of 59 years, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Eugene J. Benoit, died in 2008. A son, Scott M. Benoit, died in 1959. Survivors include two children, retired Air Force Col. Mark Benoit of Merritt Island, Fla., and Moya Benoit Thompson of Palm Coast, Fla.; three sisters; and a brother.

TILLEY, William J.
Of Harvard, WWII Vet; 89
Harvard - William J. Tilley,
89, of Harvard, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Tilley was born in Old Perlican, Newfoundland, Canada on October 22, 1923, a son of the late George L. and Minnie E. (Button) Tilley, and has resided in Harvard for over 50 years.
Mr. Tilley is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anita E. (Carlson) Tilley, three sons and two daughters-in-law, William L. and Sandra Tilley of Leesburg, VA, Douglas J. And Patty Tilley of Merrimac, Bruce A. Tilley of Harvard; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda J. and Steven Miller of Beaver Creek, Ohio; one brother, Ronald G. Tilley of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Jason W. Tilley, David M. Tilley, Janice D. Hall, Douglas S. Miller, Bradley T. Miller, Michael A. Tilley, Shana N. Tilley, six great-grandchildren, Camryn L. Tilley, Carson C. Tilley, Austin W. Tilley, Luke W. Tilley, Caroline M. Tilley, Kate A. Tilley. Mr. Tilley is predeceased by his first wives, June E. (Martin) Tilley, a daughter, Sharon J. Tilley, and a brother, Chet L. Tilley.
For over 30 years, he was employed at the former GenRad Corporation as a manager. Mr. Tilley served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Harvard.
Mr. Tilley was an umpire in many amateur baseball leagues. For decades he ran the Greased Pole at the Harvard 4th of July festival. Mr. Tilley and his wife Anita vacationed for 25 years in Anguilla. He took great joy with entertaining and having lobster clambakes with family and friends and hosting two weddings in his back yard. Mr. Tilley also enjoyed boating in his Boston Whaler in the Bare Hill Pond in Harvard.
Tilley - A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 18 at the Congregational Church of Harvard, 5 Still River Rd., Harvard, MA. A visitation period will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 17 at the T. J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Rd. (Rte. 2A), Ayer.
