ABBOTT, Mary Patricia
Born In: Port au Port, Newfoundland, Canada
Born: August 26th, 1918
Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Mary Patricia
Abbott announce
her passing on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Bradford Hall, Parkland Estates, Halifax,
NS, at the age of 93 years. Pat was born in Port au Port to the late Michael
and Margaret Abbott (nee Lawlor). She attended Mt. St. Bernard College in Antigonish
completing a course of studies in secretarial skills. After graduation, she
worked in the office of the Chief Medical Officer at the base hospital at Harmon
Air Force Base in Stephenville, NL and later for the family business, Abbott
and Haliburton Co. Ltd. in Port au Port, NL the "Oldest Firm on the West
Coast."
Pat was a devoted gardener planting and nurturing numerous species of roses
and other flowers in her garden in Port au Port. She also maintained a vegetable
garden that was a source of delight to her nieces and nephews when they visited
in the summers. Unfortunately, much of her wonderful crop never made it to
the table, as it frequently made a quick snack for the children when playing
outdoors.
Pat also enjoyed travelling to visit with her sister Amelia (Millie)
and family in Europe and the US. She loved music and was a member of the Our
Lady of Mercy choir for many years. Along with her mother, she was the family
historian relating many a story or genealogical tidbit. She will be lovingly
remembered and deeply missed by her nieces Frances Roda (Gail Barg) and Patricia
(John) Lutz of New Jersey; nephews Michael (Vicki) Roda of Halifax, and Robert
Roda of Scottsdale, Arizona; and her grand-nieces/ nephews Richard, Nicole,
Christine, Stephen, Matthew and John; her many loving cousins, including Maureen
Moore of Knoxville, TN; Mary E. Stevenson of Warwick, RI; Kathleen and Mary
Lawlor and the House and Abbott families of Port au Port; and numerous beloved
friends and relatives in Canada and the US. Pat was predeceased by her beloved
sister Millie in December, her brother-in-law Ray, her parents and her brother
Michael in infancy. A private Funeral Mass was held at Saint Benedict Church,
45 Radcliffe Dr., Clayton Park, Halifax NS on Friday, May 25, 2012, with Father
Bernard O'Neill officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at the Maria
Regina Parish Cemetery, Port au Port East, NL. The family would like to express
their gratitude to Dr. Sophie Couture and the wonderful and caring staff at
Bradford Hall, Parkland Estates where she resided for the last five years.

the last few months with both Pat and Millie. In lieu of flowers donations
may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church Restoration Fund (c/o Lorna Snow, Box

MYERS, John Arthur
Born: September 9th, 1931
Passed on: May 6th, 2012
It is with deep sadness that we announce John's passing on Sunday
May 6 at
Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. The son of the late Sinclair and
Beryl (MacEachern) Myers, John was born and raised in Bedford, NS. He left
home in 1949 to attend the University of New Brunswick and from there began
the career he loved as a "construction tramp". He headed west and north to
work in BC, Alberta and Tuktoyaktuk, NT. His expertise in planning, scheduling,
estimating led to work on major hydro (earth-filled dams) and highway projects
in western Canada, western USA, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfoundland
became his second home as he worked extensively for Lundrigans Limited where
he was responsible for overseas projects in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Bermuda
and Iceland. For many years prior to his retirement in 1990, he managed the
Roads Construction Division and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the byways and
building the highways in the province. Upon his retirement, he returned to
Nova Scotia and enjoyed rural life mixed with "tramping" throughout Canada
and the southern US in a small motorhome. In 2009 when living for the year
in Yellowknife, he could indulge his interest in fishing and aviation and was
frequently spotted at Buffalo Airways and down at the float plane docks. John
was a friend of Bill W for over 40 years. John is survived by his wife Dyane
Winsor Myers, his daughter Lisa Myers (Jim Murray) of Vancouver BC, his son
Arthur Myers of Shubenacadie, NS, their mother Ruth Myers of Middleton NS and
his granddaughter Jamie Myers Ames of Calgary AB. He leaves to mourn as well
his sister Cleo Smith of Halifax, NS, his sister-in-law Stephanie (Keith) Murray,
Camlachie, Ontario, nieces, nephews and numerous friends and former colleagues.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, prostate cancer
research and support, the Maritime Eye Clinic or the charity of your choice.
A very special thank you to Dr. Grant Goodine and the staff of the third floor
medical of Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion. Arrangements
have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448.
