ANDERSEN, Emily Olive Ellen
1943-2019

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ellen Emily Olive Andersen announce her passing on the May 1st, 2019 at the Long Term Care Facility at the age of 75 years. She will be sadly missed by her husband Harold; children: Barry (Kim), Gladys (Henry), Ola, Donna (Kent), Wanda; grandchildren: Brent, Marina, Kendra, Victoria, Stacey, Dylan; great-grandsons: Noah and Chase; step-brothers: Charles (Enid), Rupert (Kathy), Tim (Stella), Bill (Christine), Jim (Mary), Brian (Katie), ; sisters: Grace Furman, Sarah Morrow; step-sisters: Shirley Goudie, Harriet McNeill as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Gladys and step-parents Peace and Rupert McNeill; son Anthony, grandsons: Brent and Daniel; step-brother Ian. Funeral service will be held in Makkovik from the Moravian Church with Reverend Beatrice Hope officiating with interment to follow at the Moravian cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Moravian Church. Special thanks to the Staff at the Labrador Grenfell Health and especially all who visited.

BATSTONE, Ralph Irving
(October 27, 1924 - May 13, 2019)

The family of the late Ralph Batstone announce his peaceful passing at Corner Brook Long Term Care Center on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the age of 94 years. Ralph, a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend leaves behind to mourn his children: Robert (Sandra) Batstone, Loretta (John) Bugden, Trinda Hamlyn and Jennifer (Rick) Burton: his grandchildren: Andrew (Janice) Batstone, Shannon (Clark) Hanna, Amy (Brent) MacNeil, Jason (Sara) Bugden, Jana (Kari) Sigurdsson, Jordan (Holly) Hamlyn, Nathan Hamlyn, Christian (Samantha) Hamlyn, Noah and Seth Burton; his great grandchildren: Joel, Matilda, Violet, Lincon, Sam, Arabelle, Maelie, Keaton, Callahan, Madalyn, Alexandra, Kirsten, John, Jack and Lucy. He also leaves to mourn his sister, Joan. Special thanks to the staff at the Protective Community Residences for all their help and kindness. Ralph was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Lorena (nee Bagg) Batstone; his parents Robert and Loretta Batstone, his sister Jean and his son-in-law Brian Hamlyn. His family will cherish the memories of him as being a humble caring soul, a compassionate man, who had a lot of love for his family. In keeping with Ralph's wishes, cremation has taken place. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Genova Bennett announce her passing on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 83 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Brian Sooley (Cynthia), Judy Sooley (Leonard), Debbie Hampton (Terry) and Wendy Oldford (Kris); 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister Eva Hackett (Walter); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Kevin Bennett, parents William and Cecilia Cammie, brother John Cammie, sisters Marjorie Russell and Ann Leonard. Genova will be missed by a large community of friends and extended family who loved her for her generous nature, quick wit and hearty sense of humour. Her children would like to extend greatest appreciation to family members Diane and Brian White for their constant support. It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Delaney at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL on May 28, 2019. Surrounded by her loving family, Marie passed peacefully at the age of 92. She was born in Burin, NL, daughter of sea captain Joseph Lundrigan and Mary (Penney) Lundrigan. Marie is survived by her five children, Brian (Jean) Delaney, Robert (Marina) Delaney, Wayne (Sandi) Delaney, Maureen Jackson (Barry), Joan Delaney, eight grandchildren, Adam Delaney, Ashley Ward (Mike), Justin Cormier, Holly Delaney, Allan Delaney, Briant Delaney, Colin Delaney, Catherine Delaney, two great- grandchildren, Adelaide Ward, Holland Ward, caregiver Alice March and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Lundrigan, her husband, Jerome Delaney, her sister, Clarice Gillis, and her granddaughter Jenna Delaney. Marie moved to the Stephenville area in 1951 after graduating from Littledale College, St. John's, with a teaching degree. She became a teacher in Stephenville Crossing and shortly thereafter met her husband, Jerome. Eventually Marie left teaching to be an active partner in the founding of JM Delaney Lumber Ltd. in Stephenville and to raise her family of five children. Marie was well-educated and played a key role in the ongoing operation and growth of the Delaney business. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and an active member and supporter of St. Stephen's Parish. In her prime years, Marie loved bowling and taking evening walks with Jerome. She was a pillar of the community and will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation took place at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Friday, May 31 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service took place at St. Stephen's Parish, West Street, Stephenville on Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 am with interment at the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville.

DENNIS, HENRY ROY
1932-2019

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Henry Roy Dennis, 87, of John's Beach, NL at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 14th, 2019. Roy is survived by his wife of 57 years Myra Dennis (nee Stuckless), his children Glenn (Yvonne), Sandra (Mike), Mark (Glenys), Joanne, Lorrie (Rick) and Bill (Carrie); his only sister Rhoda Mitchell, 13 Grandchildren (Justin, Alexandra, Nicholas, Adam, Amanda, Robert, Ashley, Grace, Olivia, Noah, Owen, Benjamin, and Ava), and 3 Great Grandchildren (Lilly, Avaline, and Annabelle), and a large extended family including many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Joseph and his mother Jessie. Visitation to be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home in Curling at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, May 15th. The funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 16th at 2:00 pm at St. Ambrose Anglican Church in John's Beach, officiated by Rev. Effie Organ.
Roy was an accomplished fisherman, carpenter and sawyer. He was also a master dory builder and his dories can be found all around the Bay of Islands and in many parts of the country. His work has been presented in many articles and has been featured at the Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador.

FAOUR, Daniel Charles
May 11, 1926 to May 22, 2019

It is with profound sadness that the family of Daniel C. Faour announces his passing in Corner Brook, NL on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, in his 94th year. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Freida, his parents Edward and Mary Faour, and his sister, Marguerite Dean. He leaves five children, Fonse (Maureen) of St. John's, Christine (David Jones) of Coldbrook, NS, Geraldine of Ottawa, Joanne (Bernard Greene) of St. John's, and Sheila (Barry Warren) of Montreal; twelve grandchildren: David Faour (Sarah), Dartmouth, NS, Elizabeth Faour, Halifax, Peter Faour (Catherine) Halifax, Thomas Faour, Kingston, ON, Daniel Massicotte (Sara), Toronto, Stephen Massicotte, Montreal, Aaron Massicotte, Montreal, Marcus Etchegary (Jenn), Toronto, Dominic Greene, St. John's, Danielle Greene, Toronto, Julia Warren, Montreal, Ted Warren, Montreal; and four great-grandchildren, Ryker and Adelaide Etchegary, Toronto, Harriett Faour and Rita Faour of Halifax.
Dan was born in St. John's, and came to Corner Brook at age 2 following the early death of his father. He went to school in Toronto, and on his return in 1948 he established his first jewellery business on Broadway in Corner Brook. It was there he met his future bride, Freida, and they were married in 1950.
His was a life well-lived as an entrepreneur, volunteer in the community, and family man. In the jewellery business in Corner Brook for over 40 years, he developed a reputation for excellence in his work, and fairness and dedication to his customers. As his business grew, he was also focused on giving back to the community which was the basis of his livelihood. He was involved in Holy Redeemer Parish as a member of the Parish council. He was an active participant in the Knights of Columbus and reached the most senior levels for the Province. In the community, he was an active member and Chair of the Corner Brook Ski Carnival, which became the Corner Brook Winter Carnival. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Corner Brook, took on executive positions, and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, emblematic of significant contributions to the organization. His interest in the community led him to contributions to the Corner Book Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Boards of the Grenfell College and the Downtown Business Association. One of the most enduring, and endearing, aspects of his social infrastructure in Corner Brook, he was a founding member of a card group, the Five and Dime Club, with six of his close friends, since 1951. He was the longest surviving member, and recruited many of the "younger" members in recent years, who in turn supported him as he got older.
His greatest pride was reserved for his family, his five children, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom he regarded as his greatest legacy. As a father, his dedication was inspirational, as he provided leadership and stability to his wife and children for almost 70 years.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday and Monday, May 26 and 27, 2019 at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue from 2 - 4 in the afternoon and 7 - 9 in the evening. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral, Mt. Bernard Avenue in Corner Brook, on Tuesday May 28 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Mount Patricia Cemetery. FREAKE, Sadie Green

1918 – 2019

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother. She died peacefully in Toronto on May 17, 2019 in her one hundred and first year. She leaves to mourn her son, Douglas and daughter, Margaret, her grandson, Philip (Jessie) and her great-grandchildren, Evan, Kate and Andrew. Sadie lived in Corner Brook for sixty-five years and was married to the late Dexter Freake. She was a devoted member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. She continued to be a proud Newfoundlander despite moving to Toronto to be near her family in 2008. Sadie will be buried with her husband in the Mount Patricia Cemetery and interment will take place in August.

GILLINGHAM, Ralph Thomas
(May 03, 1942 - May 14, 2019)

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter: Michelle (Patrick), sons: Todd and Michael; grandchildren: Brandon, Brittany, Tyler and Kristine; sisters: Laura, Margaret, Mona and brother Ron, and a circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne; son Robby; parents Joseph and Annie Hickey; siblings: Rhoady, Gerald, Joe, Ted, Mary and Libby. Jim Hickey was indeed a legend in his own right. Everyone from Humbermouth to Curling knew Jim as a fun-loving individual whose sole purpose was to bring a smile to one's face. He had an innate ability to make each and every person he came in contact with feel important. Every Christmas as families awaited the arrival of Santa, Jim never failed. Regardless of the weather his mission was not complete until he delivered gifts to every child. Jim was the staple of Humbermouth, Spruce Brook and Bonnie Bay Pond. He loved the cabin life and had an open-door policy. Jim was a devoted husband, father and longtime employee of the gypsum plant. Hickey's Lane will never be the same but rest assure he is with family and friends. So, Jim you have left an incredible impact on all of us. Now is your time to sit back with a cup of Hot Chocolate, a milk chocolate bar and a huge piece of Lemon Meringue Pie. Your work here is completed. Cremation has taken place. Bill Hicks
, a man who lived life to the fullest and lived it well, passed on May 21, 2019 after a 4.5 year struggle with Dementia at the Western Health Long Term Care in Corner Brook. He is predeceased by his parents Leslie and Beatrice Hicks, brother Reginald, sister Marian, and brother-in-law Dr. Doug Jenkins, In-laws Sandy and Elizabeth Hynes. Bill will be fondly remembered by his 7 children - Pam Elliott (Rick), Paul (Sherry), Kathie, Wayne (Donna), Deanne Solo (Rick), Philip (Jackie), and Michelle Patrick (Chris) and their mother, Doris Hicks, as well as dear friends Mike Anderson and Jack Haire. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren - Terri Humphries (Stephen), Bradford Elliott (Laura), Erica Hicks, Jasmine Elliott, Robyn Froude, Jennifer Solo, Robert Hicks, and Drew Patrick, 2 great-grandchildren Charlotte and Chase Humphries; as well as many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his siblings Florence Loughlin (Jim), Derek Hicks (Marian), Diane Jenkins Frampton (Fred) and Tony (Colleen) and the Hynes family.
Bill had a large circle of extended family and friends, many of whom called him the "The Reverend". He loved to socialize, hunt, go boating with buddies and was a gifted carpenter and welder who always extended a skilled hand to fixing and building for others. He enjoyed many years at Pinchgut Lake with his family and close friends and later, in retirement, he spent 6 months in Florida where he golfed, played cards, shuffleboard and any other activity that brought him fun with others. In the summer months, he spent time in Deep Bight where he had another circle of friends. His heart was always in Corner Brook where he was born, grew up, raised his family and lived most of his years. Gratitude is expressed to the staff at the Western Health Long Term Care in Corner Brook facility who cared for him during these past few years (specifically the wings Blueberry Crescent and Partridgeberry Place).
At his request, Bill has been cremated. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Monday, May 27 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Interment to take place at Mount Patricia Cemetery on Tuesday, May 28 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. He was preceded by his mother Leona. Often found behind a camera or salmon fishing, and known for his great sense of humour, he will be greatly missed. Although he often did not shy away from being the life of the party, at his request, there will be no funeral service. She was the last surviving sibling of her Johnson family, predeceased by Hilma, Winnifred, Oscar, Olga, Alma, Herbert, Raymond, and Otto.Her childhood was spent in Lomond, a place so dear to her heart, where many stories were created. Our mother then went on to graduate from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in 1942 and following this was nurse to Dr. T. T. Monahan in Corner Brook for many years.Mom met the love of her life Arthur, and they were married in 1946 and had a wonderful life together. In their later years they truly enjoyed salmon fishing. She was passionately involved with The Girl Guides of Western Newfoundland, Western Memorial Hospital Foundation and Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador. During the Rotary Music Festival, one could always find Mom in the audience.Mom, Nan or Nan-Nan was always very supportive and caring of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was our beacon.A heartfelt thank you to the many caregivers and the "Gang at Marble Drive" who helped make her life so enjoyable these last few years. Beloved father of Erika McCoy (Nathan) and Jamie McAlinden (Cheryl). Proud Grandpa of Taylor, Emily and soon to be born granddaughter. Cherished son of Mary McAlinden. Loving brother of Cathy Gray, Patricia Belmore, Susan MacNabb, Deborah Weir (Steven) and Stephen (Eleanor). Fun loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Pentecostal Church, Sops Arm on Monday, May 20th, a private visitation for family from 2-4 pm and from 7-9 pm with friends and family. The funeral service will be held at the Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, May 21st at 2pm follow by the interment at the Anglican Cemetery. Pastor Eugene Samson and Rt. Rev. WALSH, Pius James
1950-2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Pius James Walsh announces his passing after a sudden illness, on Friday May 17, 2019, at the age of 69 years. A native of Flower's Cove, Pius worked for more than 30 years as a seafood industry executive. He also served on the boards of numerous organizations including school boards, banking, marketing and various government agencies. Pius was also a dedicated volunteer having been an active member of the Lion's Club for many years. Pius will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Selma and his children, Durwin, Tonia (Orlando) and Lorilynn (Jeremy). Pius will also be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren, Dawson, Liam, Emily, Roland and Mila, by his sisters, Mary Jane (Danny), Marie, Elizabeth, Noreen (Craig), Dulcie (Casey) and by his brother Frank (Patty). Furthermore, Pius will be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends; including the many he made during his years in his beloved Labrador. Pius was predeceased by his uncles Leo and Bernard and his mother Geraldine. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Port au Choix. A Funeral Service in memory of Pius will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Port Au Choix, with Rev. Arockia Raj Siluvaiappa officiating. Interment will follow at the Interfaith Sandy Cove Cemetery.

WALSH, Thomas Vincent
Corner Brook, NL
1921 - 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas Vincent Walsh announce his peaceful passing on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital at age 97 years. He leaves to mourn, with many wonderful memories, his loving wife Ruby; his daughter Sharon and son-in-law Jim Duggan; his treasured grand-children Derek Vanderveer (Cindy Poremba), Lorie Carter (Jarratt), and Stephanie Hartery (Ryan); his great-grandchildren Jace and Lucy Carter; Thomas and Ward Hartery; his brother-in-law Ron Penney (Shirley) as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Josephine Walsh, brothers Charlie and John, sisters-in-law Monica Walsh, Anna Walsh, Gertrude Morgan and Jane Drake, brothers-in-law Edward Morgan and Frank Drake. Tom was born and grew up in Bellevue, a place that remained dear to his heart throughout his life. He moved to Corner Brook in 1950, where he met Ruby, his lifelong companion. They were married in 1953 and were blessed with 65 years of happy married life. His working years were spent with CN Railway, from which he retired in 1983. Tom and Ruby enjoyed their many years of retirement, and pursued a wide variety of interests including travel, gardening, bowling, golf and outdoor activities of many kinds. The family would like to express thanks to the staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre for their care and kindness. Special thanks also to dear friends who provided so much help and support in recent months: Marg and Don Alyward, Eileen Oake, Ruby and Roy Myles, and Theresa Wade.
Visitation will be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Ave, on Wednesday May 15th, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. from where Funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Jim Robertson officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Western Regional Health Foundation. YOUNG, Bernice Beulah (Nee Snooks)
December 28, 1931 – May 8, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernice Young announce her passing at Western Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 at the age of 87 years. Her memory will live on in her family and friends, especially her children; Wayne Young (Peggy), Dave Young (Vera), Karen (Gary Park), Dexter Young (Linda) and Heather Carter; seven grandchildren: Brad and Kim Park, Scott and Steven Young, Rodney Young, Sean and Jamie; step grandson, Dale; 12 great grandchildren: Tyler, Karissa, Tristan, Cameron and Cadence, Brayden, Sydney, Noah, Olivia, Cameron and Cadence and Riley; great step grandson River; siblings Gert (Alec), Manie and Dennis, Derek (Mary Ellen), Clarence and Melva; sisters-in-law: Marigold Coates and Vera Neville; her special card buddies: Edna, Eileen and Irene; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Sydney, grandson Phillip, mother and father Amelia and Norman Snooks, siblings Tom, Noble, Lorena, Wallace and Robert; mother and father -in-law Doll and Wallace Young. A special Thank you to Palliative Care for the exceptional loving care you extended to our family. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Thursday and Friday from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Mary's Anglican Church in Curling with Archbishop Stewart S. Payne officiating. The interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church memorial Fund or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
