It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hilary Alexander announce his passing at his residence in Stephenville Crossing on June 25, 2014 at the age of 84 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife Maureen, 4 sons: Andrew (Marilyn) in Stephenville Crossing, Thomas (Elizabeth) in Lourdes, Hilary (Emma) in Stephenville Crossing, Rick (Lisa) in Stephenville Crossing, 3 daughters: Debbie (Raymond) Reardon in Mount Pearl, Jenny (Perry) McKay in Stephenville Crossing, Denise (Steven) in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia, 1 sister Bertha Johnson in Whitbourne, 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild on the way and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James and Clara Alexander, 4 sisters and 7 brothers. Passed away on Friday June 20, 2014 at his family residence in Curling while doing what he loved best working on his home. He was in his 89th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her eight sons; Ronald (Linda) of ON, Wayne, Darryl, Brian (Paulette), all of Deer Lake, NL, Earl (Susan) of ON, Chris (Ann) and Shawn, both of Deer Lake, NL and Kent (Dana) of St. John's, NL; her 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandson, Travis Anderson, her brother, Lewis (Margie) Ball; her sisters: Beryl Earle, Evelyn (Steve Gilley), Edna Manuel and Enid Burridge; her sister-in- law, Ruth Ball. Our family is sad to announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunt. Kay passed peacefully away on Tuesday, June 5, 2014, at Chancellor Park at the age of 73 years. Predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Hilda Thistle, of Glenwood, NL and her husband, Paul Arbour, of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Left to mourn three sisters: Shirley (Ed) Jenkins, Mount Pearl, NL; Joyce (John) Downing, Clarenville, NL; Diane (Bernard) Keating, Corner Brook, NL. Three brothers: Billie (Lucie) Thistle, Ottawa, ON; Wallace (JoAnne) Thistle, Sudbury, ON; Gordon (Barb) Thistle, Keswick, ON. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Barbara Bartlett announce her passing on Thursday morning at WMRH at the age of 73. She leaves behind to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband, Gerry, children: Susan Dunne (Stephen) and David Bartlett, grandchildren: Emily Dunne and Kenzie Bartlett, extended family Marina Martin, Mimi Martin, Bonnie and George Pretty, Gwen and David Bartlett, Jeanette Bartlett and Bill Ralston as well as a large circle of relatives and close friends. She is predeceased by her parents Edward and Gertrude Martin, siblings: Shirley Lundrigan, William Martin and John Martin. Barbara was active in her community of Corner Brook and volunteered for a number of organizations and was a life member of the United Church Women and Kinette Club of Corner Brook. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of a wonderful and loving partner, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, friend and musician, Bernard Henry Blanchard, on Thursday, June 26, 2014. Leaving behind with fond and loving memories his partner and best friend Goldie Park, sons Scott (Linda) and Shane (Tracy), Step-daughters; Pansy (Ellis), Angela (Sterling),Trudy (Robert),and Pamela. His special grandchildren, Mandy (Robbie), Shelby (Myles), Joshua, Jordan, Spencer, Lila, Peter (Jade), Steven, Julie and Emily. Precious great-grandchildren, Brayden and Paige. His brothers and sisters, Hubert (Patsy), Elwood (Lorena), Gilbert (Marie). Horace (Dale), Derek, Margaret (Robin), Madonna (Rodney). It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stephen Brining who was born in Toronto Ont. to Henry Arthur and Joan (Pugh) Brining announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on June 22, 2014 at the age of 66 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Heidi and son Thomas of Stephenville Crossing, brother John Brining in Ajax, Ontario, sister Wendy Penny (Larry) in Stouville, Ontario, nieces and nephews: Heather Gaudin, Leslie Wolfenburg, Kathy and Michael Brining, Jacob and Lilly Wells, in-laws Don and Elsie Wells, brother-in-law Tom Wells (Lisa), cousin Robert and Linda Hill in Hamilton, Ontario and a large circle of friends. Steve's greatest joy was becoming a dad at 59. He valued this role with more pride than any other. He was a devoted husband and loving father. Steve was committed to Thomas and worked diligently to instill in him the same values that were evidenced in his own life; a love of people, a love of books and a devotion to God. Steve will be remembered for his great sense of wit and eagerness to debate. His favorite topics were religion and politics but he was in no way limited to them. Steve embraced all people and had a personality that knew no generation gap. Whether you were 6 or 96 he was interested in your day regardless of his own circumstances. We will miss his boisterous laugh and his generous bear hugs. Betty-Marie of Vail, AZ passed on Saturday, June 21, 2014. Betty-Marie resided in AZ for the last 19 years with her daughter Bonnye-Lee thatchell in Vail, AZ. She was a stay at home mother. She is survived by her daughters - Joy V. Baker of St. David, AZ and Bonnye-Lee Thatchell of Vail, AZ. Also cousins in Newfoundland and the United States as well as various nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her son, husband and son-in-law. A grave side service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the St. David Cemetary in St. David, AZ.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joslyn Caines announce her passing on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook in her 62nd year. Forever concerned about the well-being of her family and friends, Joslyn remained strong until the final days of her illness. Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizen's Home, Carbonear on June 3, 2014, Laura Bell 'Nan' Dean, in her 97th year. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur N. Dean in 1984 and their infant daughter, Jean in 1958. Nan is survived by her daughters, Helena (John) Roche, Lethbridge, AB and Dianne (Allan) Skanes, Corner Brook; grandchildren, Dana (Darren) Pepin, Lethbridge, AB, John Jr. (Wendy) Roche, Battleford, SK, Philip (Rebecca) Skanes, Paradise and Katherine (Chris) Hearn, Corner Brook; great-grandchildren, John and Alissa Roche, Battleford, SK, Emily and Michael Pepin, Lethbridge, AB, Hannah Skanes, Paradise, Jack, Madelyn and Haley Hearn, Corner Brook, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was very active in her church until her passing. She was a life member of the UCW, served on various church committees and taught Sunday school and Explorers for a great number of years. Mom loved to spend time with her family and she was loved by all of us. She enjoyed travelling with us, enjoyed a game of Skipbo and a good cup of tea, with a snack, of course, with her extended family at Charwood Manor. She was very active in her senior years, swimming, skiing and walking until the onset of her illness this year. She was a good friend and neighbour to everyone that she met, always had a smile or a joke. We were blessed to have her in our lives for so long. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Loving Mother Rosena (Rose) Hulan on Sunday June 29, 2014 in Edmonton. She spent most of her life in Stephenville. She was surrounded by all of her children and family. Cherished Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, she was a remarkable woman. She will be greatly missed by her 4 children, Carole (Cardinal), Linda Hulan (Cummings), Diane Hulan, Michael Hulan, and her beloved cat Maggie. She is also survived by her dear brother Fred, sons-in-law Gordon and Matthew, daughter-in-law Karen, and numerous nephews, nieces and relatives. Mom was predeceased by her husband William James, her parents Annie and Arthur, brothers Osborne and John, and sister Phyllis. She taught us so much about life, respect, humility, the value of silence, and so much more. Her jobs are all done, her spirit is free, and she is at peace now. She fought such a courageous battle, with never a word of complaint, right up to the very end. A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held on Monday, July 7 at 2:00 P.M. (viewing at 1:00) at the Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton. Cremation will follow. We will be taking her home for burial with Dad, in Stephenville, later this summer. Bradley Keith Legge
, of Enfield, NS passed away on June 24, 2014 at the Colchester Reginal Hospital, Truro, NS after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 52. Bradley was born in St. David's, Newfoundland, the son of the Late Susanna (Greene) and Roy Legge. He worked for Markland Associated Ltd. and was a member of the IUPAT DC39. Bradley enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking on small projects. He was a loyal Montreal Canadian fan and an avid, supportive fan of his children's sporting activities. He is survived by his spouse Patricia "Pattie" MacPherson, daughters, Emily (13), and Kelly (9); his sisters Dorothy (Gordon) Shears, Nancy Messervey, Margaret (Robert) Parsons, Alice (Keith) Whalen, Sharon (James) Dwyer, Rhoda (Brian) Pumphrey, Brenda (Calvin) Hulan and Alma (Sean) Legge; his brothers Isaac (Pearl), Hartley (Geraldine), Stanley (Nancy), and Clarence (Barb), mother-in-law, Jean MacPherson and brother-in-law, Raymond Patey along with a large circle of family and friends. Along with his parents, Bradley was predeceased by his brothers Roy, Donnelly, Albert, sister Muriel (Patey), brother-in-law Ross Messervey and father-in-law Don MacPherson. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service and Internment will take place on Friday, July 4th at the Cemetery in St. David's, with a reception to follow at the church hall. Generous. Loving. Kind. Independent. Vibrant. Loretta was well known and admired for her youthful good looks, her timeless style, her discreet generosity, and her remarkable independence. An extraordinary athlete, Loretta excelled in the bowling alley, hit triple twenties on the dartboard and could drive the green on any par three on the golf course. Loretta fiercely loved her family, immediate and extended, and provided unwavering support to them always. Her shining example showed all those she loved the truest meaning of family. Her son Allan, and daughters Jeanette (Jim Dawe), Marilyn (Vic Saccoccio), Melinda (Bill Coles), Joan (Tom Carey); her grandchildren Sabrina Saccoccio (Adam Brodie), Suzanne Carey (Peter MacDonald), and Jacqueline Carey; and her great-grandchildren, Oliver and Jesse MacDonald and Ruby Mae Brodie Saccoccio are so grateful to have been in her circle of love. 44, of Mt. Pearl, NL, died early Friday morning in hospital in Ontario from complications from Multiple Sclerosis. Her family was by her side. Koreen was born in Halifax, NS to Muriel and (late) Eric Reid. She attended high school in Mt. Pearl and then went on to graduate at Memorial University. She worked as a teacher for a few years in NL before becoming a dental hygienist in NS upon graduation at Dalhousie University. She moved to Ontario in 2002 and married in 2006. Koreen is survived by her husband Mike Martonfi, her mother Muriel Randell, stepfather Sterling Randell of Corner Brook, and three siblings: twin sister Karen Reid (Alexander Walsh) of NS; brother Chad Reid and sister Rhonda Reid (Charles Copeland) of Ontario; nieces Andrea and Erica; nephews Warrick and Devon; loving aunts, uncles and cousins, stepfamily, numerous friends and home care providers. A special thanks to Dr. Charles Copeland and Dr. Kevin Luces for their excellent care and compassion. A small gathering of friends and family is to be held in Ontario on Sunday, June 8, from 1-4 p.m. in the home where she lived. With saddened hearts and grateful thanksgiving for his 88 years of life, we announce the passing of Eric Hugh Simmons at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, on June 30, 2014. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Mercedes (nee Young), his son Randy, daughters Judy (Vince), Valerie (Terry), Vicki (Kelly), and Marsha (Craig). He was a doting grandpa to the five grandchildren he dearly loved: Meredith (Mike), Alex (Emily), Joel (Serina), Rebecca and Andy. He has one surviving sister, Beulah Power, Mount Pearl and sister-in-law Phyllis Simmons, Corner Brook. During the last two years he resided at the Silverwood Manor in Kippens with his wife Mercedes. While there, he enjoyed the care of the wonderful staff and his personal caregivers. He made many new friends, particularly his table mates, and referred to the Silverwood as his home. His entire working career was in the employ of Imperial Oil Company from which he retired in 1982. His postings took him to Stephenville, Gander, Stephenville Crossing, Deer Lake, the Northern Peninsula and finally back to Stephenville Crossing in 1961. There he particularly enjoyed serving his customers in Bay St. George and Bay St.George South. He was often referred to as "the oil man" and fondly reminisced about his many days working at the plant and sometimes delivering oil on the trucks and stopping in to his customer's homes. At his request cremation will take place and a private family service will be held in his home town of Whitbourne, NL. There he will be laid to rest with his parents, George and Mary Simmons. TRAVERS, Richard William
1921 - 2014

The family of the late Richard William Travers announce his sudden, but peaceful, passing on Thursday, June 19th, 2014 in Troon, Scotland at the age of 93 years. He was born on April 3rd, 1921 in Little Port, Lark Harbour, NL. On August 24th, 1940 he left Newfoundland as a volunteer in the Royal navy on the HMS Ganges. When he left the service, he joined the Forestry Commission and was sent to Evanton in the north of Scotland where he met Phyllis Graham and they married on April 12th, 1945. They had four children. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (on April 25th, 1995) and by all of his brothers and sisters. Of the 11 children born to John and Prudence Travers, he was the last. Left to mourn are his children: Graham, Maree, Elizabeth and Richard; 10 grandchildren & 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Rena and Marie (sisters of Phyllis) and Victoria (wife of his brother, John); a large circle of other relatives and friends; and close friend, Elizabeth MacDonald. His funeral will take place on Wednesday, July 2nd at 12:30 at Brodick Free Church, Arran, Scotland, followed by interment in Lamlash Cemetery, Arran, beside his wife, Phyllis.

WOODMAN, Derek Ernest

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Derek Ernest Woodman announce his sudden but peaceful passing on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Civic Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario at the age of 62 years, with his sister Brenda and niece Teara by his side. Derek was the youngest son of the late John & Lydia Woodman's nine children. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his siblings: Walter Woodman (Patsy), Melvin Woodman Sr. (Shirley), Neta Williamson (nee Woodman), Clarence Woodman (Rita), Harry Woodman (Maureen), Brenda Gordon (nee Woodman); sisters-in-law: Jean Woodman, Joanne Woodman. He was also blessed with 16 nieces and nephews, numerous grandnieces and grandnephews whom all have very strong memories of spending time with him, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers: Reginald Woodman and Arthur Woodman; and brother-in-law, Richard Williamson. Although Derek most recently resided in Ottawa, he always considered Corner Brook, Newfoundland to be his home and held many fond memories of his childhood there with his family. He held a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and was a substitute teacher for many years in Western Newfoundland. Derek was known for his love of Canadian politics and enjoyed a good discussion or debate. He was known for his outgoing, boisterous personality and charming smile. He had a passion for the homeless and wrote many papers on the same. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten by those who knew him. YOUNG, Harold "Ronald"

Ronald Young
of St. George's passed away on June 24th 2014 at STRH at the age of 77. He was born in Sandy Point to Francis and Elizabeth (Duval) Young and was no doubt welcomed by them in God's embrace. He was predeceased by his sisters: Annie Grandy and Marjorie Blanchard, also by his brothers: Edward, Charlie, and Sandy. Ronnie was by all accounts a good man and remained a man of faith through his last days. He loved all things Sandy Point, the sea air, a good yarn, a funny joke, little kids and animals, old time country music, western movies, a good feed of lobster, spending time with his family, chats on the phone with his kids, telling silly stories and singing songs (especially to his precious Charlotte and Vanessa), and going for drives looking for moose with his dog Patches. Ron was an adored and devoted husband to his wife Ruth (Hannon) Young. He was a loving and cherished father to Christopher (Karen) Young of Wasaga Beach, ON and Jennifer (Jerry) Baranowski of Rocky Hill, Connecticut. He was also the beloved "Nanette" to Kellee (Scott) Bennett White, whom he loved as his own. He is also leaving to mourn his lifelong buddy and brother Pius (Stella), his stepchildren Larry (Sharon), Maureen (Ata), Wanda, Tim (Jackie), and Jeff and a large circle of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and great- grandchildren, extended family and friends. The family would like to thank his homecare aide Harriet Perrier for the kindness, friendship, and care she showed Ron/Dad in his last 3 years. Ron doesn't want tears-his suffering is done. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. "We will love you forever, and we miss you already."
