It is with great sadness that the family of the late Annie Regina Hynes announce her passing on Sunday, July 1st, 2007 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 76 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Fintan; son: Kevin Bennett; daughters: Mary Bennett, Linda Bennett, Barbara Rose and Tina (Mark Patey); grandchildren: Michael (Sue), Keith (April), Debbie, Audrey Ann (Travis), Colin and BillyJoe; great grandchildren; Breanna, Andrew, Eric, Megan, Kelly-Ann, Dominique and Michael Jr.; brothers: Kevin and Joe Bennett. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Matthew and Mary Bennett. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Tuesday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 4th at 10:30 AM from All Hallows Roman Catholic Church, Humber Road. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald Hunt announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, on Monday, July 2, 2007, at the age of 74 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Joan; daughters Brenda (Stan Cooper), Jennifer (Troy White), Paulette (Stephen Christopher); grandchildren, Ashley and Adam; great-granddaughter, Jaylen; brothers, Jack (Joan), David (Isabel), Fred (Carolyn), and Wayne; sisters, Betty, Joyce (Alan Wilby), Marion (Lloyd Burton), and Gloria (Moody Wells); brother-in-law, Doug Hampton; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by parents, Frederick and Marilla Hunt, and brother, Ralph. Friends may visit St. Paul's Anglican Church on Wednesday, July 4, between the hours of 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 5, at 2 p.m. Cremation has already taken place. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years: Joyce (nee: Baggs); brothers: William and Kenneth, and sisters: Maude and Pearl. he is survived by sons: Wayne (Rosalind) of Corner Brook, Brian (Susan) of Moncton and Headly of St.John’s; grandchildren: Jackie White (Byron) of Corner Brook and Stephen of Blaketown. Jake was a retired long term employee of Bowaters Newfoundland Ltd. and a long standing member of the West Gate Masonic Lodge. Mary Ellen “Helen” Abbott (nee Fitzgerald) 1916 – 2007
, passed away peacefully in her 92nd year at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, Halifax on July 10, 2007. Predeceased by her husband, Albert Joseph Abbott of Port-au-Port, Newfoundland (1985). Born in Halifax, daughter of Michael Daniel and Jerome Agnes Fitzgerald (nee Woodill); cherished sister of Jean Frances Spencer (George) of Chester, Nova Scotia. Helen was a graduate of the Sacred Heart School, Halifax and the Royal Victoria School of Nursing, Montreal. She enlisted in the Canadian Army and saw World War Two service overseas as a Nursing Sister. With her military husband, there were numerous postings in Canada and overseas which fostered many lifelong colleagues and friends. On retirement, they returned to Port-au-Port, Newfoundland to help run the family business. Helen returned to Halifax in 1990. Helen expressed herself with her artistic talents, which included painting, knitting, and needle point. Helen was a Lady in the truest sense. Her quiet strength and support through adversity was an inspiration to friends and family, including her many loving nieces/grandnieces and nephews/ grandnephews. Helen’s family thanks the professional staff who worked on Floor V4E over the years, for their dedication and compassion, and the staff of the Veteran’s Memorial Building, Halifax, who very much made the Veteran’s Memorial Building Helen’s home. , of Blaine, Washington, went to be with the Lord on July 4th, 2007. She was 67 years old and was born December 5th, 1939 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada to Sarah and Fred Carter. Elizabeth married Richard Reeve on August 23, 1991. She worked at Work Opportunities for 16 years as a bookkeeper and loved to sing and dance. She was a special friend to the many people who knew her. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her first husband, Neil Sutherland, and her parents. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alfred Gillis announce his peaceful passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port Aux Basques, on Sunday, July 22nd, 2007 at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Bertha (nee Hammond); sisters-in-law Gertrude Gillis, Codroy and Julia Belmer, New York; brother- in-law Pat (Celine) Hammond, Long Harbour; many special nieces and nephews, especially Beverly (nee Hammond) Hicks, Codroy Valley, along with a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by parents Edwin Joseph and Sarah (nee Blanchard) Gillis; step-mother Margaret (nee MacArthur) Doyle; brothers: Wallace and Micheal; sisters: Mary, Anne and Leila. After returning from serving his country in the Forestry Unit, Alf started working on his many businesses. He began by playing his accordian for dances in Codroy, along with his brother Mike. From there, he went on to building Gillis’ Store, a movie theater, Gillis’ Cabins, Codroy Valley Farm Supplies and The Chignic Lodge. Family and friends are being received at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., from where the funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 26th at 10:30 am, with Father Lee Lainey officiating. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Matilda Burridge announce her passing on Friday, July 27th, 2007 at Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 86 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her eight children: Bertram, Benjamin (Doilie), Carson (Sheila), Derek (Diane), Calvin (Judy), all of McIvers, Warrick (Beverly), Kitchener, Ontario, Marion Burridge, Mt. Pearl and Joan Delaney (Maurice), Cox’s Cove; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one surviving brother: Dawson Cain Lovell (Iris), McIver’s; one surviving sister: Gladys Park , McIver’s; sister-in-law; Margaret Lovell, McIver’s; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents: Henry and Rose Lovell; husband, Bertram Burridge Sr. (1992), daughter: Verna; sisters: Alice Park (John), Elizabeth Parsons (Joseph), Dorothy House (John); brothers: Wallace Lovell (Phoebe) and John Lovell; daughter-in-law: Linda Burridge and brother-in-law: George Park. Friends may visit the Epiphany Anglican church, McIver’s beginning Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m, continuing on Monday from where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 31st at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Joan Coles officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Epiphany Church Memorial fund. October 11th, 1930 - July 29th, 2007

It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Jeremiah Hunt announce his sudden passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 29th, 2007 at the age of 76 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Joan Doreen; son: Wade (Leonora); grandchildren: Brandon, Cassandra and Cory; stepdaughter: Joanne (John McGriesh); step-grandchildren: Darrell, Johnnie and Melissa; brothers: David (Isabel), Frederick (Carolyn) and Wayne (Patsy Davis); sisters: Betty, Joyce (Alan Wilby), Marion (Lloyd Burton) and Gloria (Moody Wells); sisters-in-law: Joyce MacLam, Joan Hunt and Elaine Chubbs, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Marilla, brothers Don and Ralph, mother-in-law: Clara Ellen Reeves. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eileen Hamlyn announces her passing at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bob (1994). She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: daughter, Pauline (Mike) Murphy; sons: Derek (Shirley), Bruce (Michelle), and Michael (Shelly) all of Corner Brook; grandchildren: David, Scott, Peter, Stephen, Brett and Allison; great grandchildren: Haley, Brandan, Hunter, Aiden, Ryan, Avalynn, Olivia, Matthew and Danielle; sister, Nan Currie (Jim); and a number of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Norman and Flora Fraser; sister, Patricia, and brothers: Ken, Ron, Sidney and Simon. The family will be receiving friends at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Saturday, July 28, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Oakland United Church on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Conrad Lucas announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the age of 59 years. He will be sadly missed by his three brothers: Francis (Margie) of Stephenville Crossing, Billy (Barb) of Barachois Brook, Junior of Stephenville Crossing, seven sisters: Dale (Junie) Keating, Trudy Keating, Olivera Lucas, all of Stephenville Crossing, Norma (Johnny) Young of Mattis Point, Delores (Raymond) LeRoux of St.George’s, Ruth Wheelden of Indiana, Greta (Mickey) Tobin of Stephenville and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Annie Lucas, sisters, Geraldine and Pauline. Visitation took place at Russell’s Funeral Home, Station Road, Stephenville Crossing on Sunday from 2-4 and 2-9 p.m. Funeral service took place on Monday July 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Parish, Stephenville Crossing with Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetary, Brook Street, Stephenville Crossing. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Passed away peacefully at the age of 60 years, in the loving arms of her family, Winnifred Anne Downer nee Shea on July 29, 2007 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. Predeceased by parents Patrick and Florence (Williams) Shea and brother William Shea. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories Donovan, her dedicated husband of 38 years; sons Philip (Sasha), Russell (Lucy) and daughter Adriene (Eric) Thoms; grandsons Haydn, Henri, Timothy and Charlie; brothers Thomas (Anita) Shea, Gus (Denise) Shea and sister Nina (Phil) Beresford; mother-in-law Bessie Downer; sister-in-law Pauline (J.P.) Leblanc. Wynanne will also be sadly missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and long time friends. The numerous organizations with which she was associated will miss her as well. A special thanks is extended to all of her committed caregivers, including 5 South B Health Sciences Centre, the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial, and Drs. (May 9th, 1929 - July 29th, 2007)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Richard George Pittman announce his sudden passing on Sunday, July 29th 2007 at the W.M.R.Hospital in Corner Brook in his 78th year. He will be sadly missed by his children: 4 daughters; Darlene Sparkes of Toronto, Ontario, Mary Payne of Rocky Hr. Ethel (Muhammond Borlot) of Calgary, Alberta, and Sharon (Tom) of Toronto, Ontario, his son Randy Pittman of Toronto, Ontario. His 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. 2 brothers Curtis (Ethel) of Rocky, Hr. and Raymond (Cheryl) of London, Ontario. His 2 sisters: Ula Ellsworth of Rocky Hr. and Emma Strickland of Ontario , his special friend Hilda Decker of Rocky Hr, his sister-in-law Enid Pittman of Rocky Hr. Also leaves to mourn a large number of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Herman Pittman, and his brother Freeman Pittman. The family and friends visitation is being held at the Pentecostal Church in Rocky Hr, today Tuesday July 31st from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Wednesday August 1st 2007 from the hours of 10 - 12 . Where also the funeral service will take place from on Wednesday August 1st 2007 at 2 pm with Pastor Jamie Warren officating with cremation to follow, and the interment to follow on Thursday August 2nd 2007 at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Rocky Hr.
