Located in Room 15 at the Colonial Building (Basement), the Historical Society is probably one of the most overlooked resources available and yet they are a great source of information for a researcher.

The Historical Society is one of the Province's oldest historical/heritage society inheriting its name from the Historical and Statistical Society of 1881. The present organization dates from 1905. The Society's objective is to promote knowledge and public discussion of the history and heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Society houses records of the Society and a large collection of material on people, places and subjects of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The office is open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Staff is available to assist researchers, but call ahead to confirm hours or leave a message at (709) 722-3191.
