C. Francis Rowe
Newfoundland Collection

Contributed by Barbara McGrath

This archives is open by appointment only. Although it is a private collection, situated in the owner's home, it is often accessible to those who are engaged in research about Newfoundland and Labrador. Materials from the collection have often been borrowed by local churches, television stations and other organizations. The collection occupies several rooms of the owner's residence. It includes an extensive assortment of Newfoundland books and published materials as well as Newfoundland banking and philatelic materials. There is also a variety of research papers on many subjects, insignia and memorabilia. One of the highlights of the collection is the group of materials (maps, photographs, documents) relating to the history of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, with which Rowe has been closely associated with for many years. Another is a collection of St. John's photographs taken over a 40 year period by Edward Rowe. Plans are being made to catalogue and photocopy the entire collection.
