Will of Thomas Brown from Newfoundland will books volume 5 pages 341-343 probate year 1889

Last will and Testament
of Thomas Brown late
of Joe Bats Arm
Fisherman Deceased.

I Thomas Brown of Joe Bats Arm, being sound and in my right mind, do hereby declare this my last will and testament, and now living in the aforesaid Joe Bats Arm of Fogo Newfoundland, and do hereby give and bequeath whatever monies & properties I am possessed of as follows.

I give and bequeath, to my wife Mary Brown the interest of whatever monies I am possessed off and I further give and bequeath, to my said wife, the dwelling house, situate in Joe Bats Arm aforesaid that I now reside in together with all the furniture therein contained, for her sole use and benefit, during the term of her natural life, after my said wifes death the said dwelling house together with all the furniture therein contained. I give devise and bequeath to my son George Brown for his sole use and benefit, after the death of my said wife Mary Brown.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Charlotte Strickland of Joe Bats Arm the sum of sixty pounds currency, also ten pounds currency to George Thos. Owen Ten pounds also to Frederick Owen, ten pounds currency to Isaac William Own, ten pounds currency to Joseph Henry Owen.
I do also order and direct that after the above sums are paid, the remaining portion or balance is to be equally divided between my two sons John Brown and George Brown together with the fishing room now occupied by me, half of which room is to be given to each of my aforementioned sons.
And I hereby appoint Mr. John Rolls Junr & Mr. Andrew Pearce both of Barrd Islands, to be executors of this my last will and Testament. And I further declare that the said executors for the time being of this my last will and testament shall respectfully be chargeable only with such monies, as they shall respectfully and actually receive, and not be answerable for each other nor for any banker, broker, or any other persons in whose hands any of the trust monies shall be placed, nor for the insufficiency or deficiency of any stocks, funds shares, or securities nor for otherwise involuntary losses. As witness my hand and seal this 21st day of March 187? Thomas x Brown (L.S.) his mark. Signed by the Testator in presence of us, present at the same time, who at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses. Horace M. Herbert. Be it know unto all men by these presents that I Thomas Brown of Joe Bats Arm of Newfoundland having made my last will and testament by this codicil do ratify and confirm my said last will and testament, and do further bequeath to my daughter Charlotte Stucklass of Joe Bats Arm, the further sum of one hundred pounds in addition to the amount mentioned in the said last will and Testament. Witness my hand this twenty third day of March eighteen hundred and seventy seven. Thomas x Brown his mark. Signed in presence of Maria Rolls. Horace M. Herbert.

Codicil
I Thomas Brown the testator named in the foregoing will do further devise and bequeath to my son John Brown, house stores, and all the room at present occupied by me.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Joe Bats Arm this 24th day of May 1887 - having been first read over Thomas X Brown his mark. In presence of Thomas Deady. Philip Curnew who in presence of the testator and in presence of each other have signed our names as witnesses.
I certify the foregoing a correct copy
