Will of Mark Chaplin from Newfoundland will books volume 14 pages 281-282 probate year 1928

In re     DECEASED
    MARK CHAPLIN.

This is the last will of me Mark Chaplin, of St. John's in the island of Newfoundland, Tailor.
First: I revoke all former wills by me at any time made and I appoint my son Lloyd Chaplin the executor of this my will.
Second: I give and bequeath all the good will of my business and all my stock in trade, goods, wares, merchandise, chattels and effects and all my book debts, and the moneys at the time of my death deposited in any bank to the credit of my current account and all cash on hand in my business unto my said son Lloyd Chaplin, subject to the payment by him of the mortgage of three thousand dollars ($3000.00) on my leasehold property on the South side of Water Street occupied by A. S. Rendell and myself and also subject to the payment by my said son Lloyd to my wife annually during her natural life of the sum of $300.00 (three hundred dollars) and to my sister Chris of a like payment of two hundred dollars annually.
Third: Subject to the above two annual payments and to the payment off of one half of the amount at the time of my death which may be standing in the bank against bonds which I have hypothecated, I give and bequeath my said leasehold property on Water Street to my said son Lloyd.
Fourth: I give and bequeath to the Methodist Orphanage, the Church of England Orphanage, Belvidere Orphanage, and Mount Cashel Orphanage the sum of one hundred dollars ($100.00) each,
Fifth: I direct that out of the remainder of my estate be paid my testamentary expenses and death duties and the residue of my estate after such payments I give devise and bequeath to my said wife Claudia absolutely, but subject to the provisions of the next succeeding paragraph.
Sixth: In the event of my said wife and I dying in a common disaster or otherwise so that there may be doubt as to who is the survivor or in the event of my said wife predeceasing me I will and direct that the residue of my estate be divided equally between all my children then living share and share alike.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto subscribed my hand at St. John's aforesaid this tenth day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and twenty seven.
