NEWFOUNDLAND, }
Saint John's To WIT:   }

I do swear that I believe this to be the true Last Will and Testament of Bridget Grant late of Saint John's in the Central District widow deceased I-------------- do further swear that I will pay all the Debts and Legacies of the said deceased so far as her Goods shall extend, and the law shall bind me, and that I will exhibit a full, true and perfect Inventory of all and every the Goods, Rights and Credits of the deceased, together with a just and true account into the Registry of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, when I shall be lawfully called thereto. And I do further swear that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said Bridget Grant, deceased, and of which she died possessed, do not, according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of Eight hundred dollars---------------------

After three days from date hereof application will be made to the Supreme Court or one of the Honorable the Judges thereof for Probate of the Will of Bridget Grant late of St. John's Widow deceased to be granted to Patrick Flynn of St. John's the Executor named in said will.

The Petition of Patrick Flynn of St. John's Laborer

Humbly Sheweth

  1. That Bridget Grant of St. John's Widow, the Sister of your petitioner died at St. John's aforesaid on the 29th day of June last having previously made her last Will and Testament which has been duly proved and is hereto annexed marked "A".
  2. That the said deceased appointed your petitioner Executor of her said will
  3. That the said deceased was at the time of her death possessed of property within the Jurisdiction of your Honorable Court of the probable value of Eight hundred dollars
  4. Your petitioner therefore prays that probate to said will be granted to him

And as in duty bound he will ever pray.

I George M. Johnson of St. John's Aforesaid solicitor ---------------- make oath and say that on the fourteenth day of August A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and ninety-three - at St. John's aforesaid --- I was present and did see Bridget Grant late of St John's aforesaid widow deceased ------ the Testatrix named in the paper writing hereunto annexed, marked A, duly sign, (by making her mark) publish and declare the said annexed paper writing, as and for her last Will and Testament in my presence and in the presence of James J. McGrath of St. John's aforesaid student at law the other subscribing witness ---- thereto. That I and said James J. McGrath then and there signed our names to such Will as such witnesses, in the presence of the said Testatrix and of each other. That previously to the said Will being so sign-ed, as aforesaid, by the said Testatrix and the said witnesses, it was read over to, and approved of by, the said Testatrix in the presence of me and the said James J. McGrath ---- and that at the time of the said execution of the said Will the said Testatrix was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of my knowledge and belief.

          This is the last will and testament of me Bridget Grant of St. John's widow of the late Richard Grant.
          I give devise and bequeath my house and any other property I may die possessed of (except as hereinafter men-tioned) to my brother son Michael Grant now living in Buffalo New York. I bequeath my bed and bedding to my niece Louisa daughter of my brother Patrick. I bequeath the rest of my household furniture to my executor to be sold and the proceeds thereof expended in masses for the repose of my soul and that of my said late husband. I appoint my brother Patrick Flynn executor of this will.
Dated at St. John's this fourteenth day of August eighteen hundred and ninety three the word 'brother' first erased on line seven
