Last will and Testament of
William Goodchild of Clarke’s Beach
Reformed Church of England Clergyman
deceased

      Last will and Testament of Rev. William Goodchild. I William Goodchild of Clarks Beach in the District of Port de Grave Newfoundland Clergyman, being of sound disposing mind and memory do make and publish this as my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore at any time by me made. I hereby appoint my brother-in-law John Alexander Miles of Open Hall, Bonavista Bay to be the sole Executor of my will. I hereby direct my said Executor to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as possible after my decease
I hereby bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Goodchild my house known as Vermont Villa with all out houses and surroundings together with the farm and Grove attached known as Vermont Farm all situate on the road at present known as the Glam Road in Clarks Beach during the term of her natural life and after her decease to my son Frederick William Wiltshire Goodchild absolutely.
I hereby devise and bequeath to my youngest son Bertram Ussher Goodchild that piece and parcel of land situate on the Glam Road and known as Brookdale when he shall attain the age of 21 years till that time it shall remain in the care of my wife If however he should die before being able to claim it the said Brookdale shall then revert to his elder brother Frederick William Wiltshire Goodchild to be claimed by him at the age of 21 years. I also devise and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Goodchild all the furnishing utensils to in or about the house Also all farming implements of whatsoever kind or quality that shall be in my possession at time of my decease and all animals vehicles etc which are my lawful property to be hers for the use and benefit of herself and children and after her decease all to revert to my eldest son Frederick William Wiltshire Goodchild
Further I hereby authorize my Executor to draw in my name from the Bank of Montreal or other Banks where my money may be lodged any amounts that be found in their keeping at time of my death and to hand over the same to my wife. In witness whereto I have hereby set my hand this 29th day of May 1897. (Sgd) William Goodchild (LS) Signed and Sealed in presence of (sgd) John A. Miles. (Sgd) John his X mark Bartlett. Signed by each witness in my presence and in presence of each other.

Codicil

This is to certify that since making the above will and Testament I have acquired that piece and parcel of land stretching from the Southern boundary of Vermont Farm to the road known as Snows Road. This said piece of land I hereby bequeath to my two sons Frederick and Bertram to be divided equally between them, the boundary line to run north and south from Vermont Farm to Snows Road when they attain the age of 21 years. If either die before that time the whole is to be retained by the survivor. In witness whereof I have hereby set my hand and Seal this 2nd day of December 1897.       I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament and codicil of William Goodchild deceased
