Will of Sophie E. Knight
from Newfoundland will books volume 13 pages 328-330 probate year 1926

In re
      SOPHIE E. KNIGHT.     DECEASED.

THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Sophie E. Knight of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland, Spinster.

FIRST. I revoke all Wills and Testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me.

SECOND I appoint my brother Archibald Knight, and my nephew James C. Pratt executors of this my Will.

THIRD I direct that out of any moneys that may be to my credit at the Bank of Nova Scotia at the time of my death shall be paid my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and death duties so far as same will extend and the balance (if any) of such moneys I give and bequeath to my sister Fanny Pratt. Should there not be sufficient of such moneys to pay my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and death duties I direct that the balance required to pay same shall come out of the residue of my estate after such moneys shall be exhausted.

FOURTH I give and bequeath the following
(a) to my sister Fanny Pratt six chairs, two easy chairs sofa and silver water kettle
(b) to William Pratt my china dish ornamented with apple blossoms
( c) to Edwin Pratt my silver gravy ladle
(d) to James C. Pratt my ornamental jug
(e) to Calvert C. Pratt my glass water jug with silver tray
(f) to Arthur B. Pratt my oil-painting with birds (my own work)
(g) to Lottie Harris my two bronze ornaments
(h) to Florence Pratt half dozen silver tea forks and silver salt and pepper shakers
(i) to Nellie Pratt my Japanese handed painted china dish.
To my brother Archibald Knight my chiffonier
(a) to my sister-in-law Sarah Knight two silver table spoons
(b) to Lottie White half dozen silver dessert spoons
( c) to Alick O. Knight my oil painting
(d) to Jean Miller gold brooch set with garnets
(e) to Sophie Knight my gold watch
(f) to Gertrude Knight half dozen dessert spoons
(g) to Grace Knight my ring set with pearls
(h) to William C. Knight half dozen silver tea spoons and old-painting of my father.
to my niece Nellie Crammond my oil-painting containing bridge
(a) to my niece Edith White half dozen dinner forks
(b) to my niece Muriel Knight my hand painted sugar and milk jug with roses on same
( c ) to Dorothy Knight my silver butter dish
(d) to Robert Knight my seven silver tea spoons
(e) to my nieces Muriel and Dorothy Knight my piano jointly
(f) to my niece Jennie Roper my gold chain
(g) to my niece Charlotte Weaver silver cold meat fork
(h) to my niece Fanny Cook my hand painted salt shakers
(i) to my niece Jessie Knight my ring set with rubies
(j) to my niece Maud Lacey my silver jelly spoon
(k) to my niece Blanche Frost my silver pickle fork with mother-of-pearl handle
(l) to my niece Julia Knight my bar brooch
(m) to my nephew Walter Knight half a dozen dinner forks
(n) to my nephew Charlie Knight my silver bon bon dish.

FIFTH Subject to the provisions of paragraphs three and four of this my will I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my property to my brothers Edwin Knight, and Archibald Knight, my sister the said Fanny Pratt and my sisters-in-law Mary J. Knight and Jessie Knight in equal shares PROVIDED ALWAYS
(a) that should my said brother Edwin Knight predecease me his share shall be taken by his wife Annie Knight.
(b) that should my said brother Archibald Knight predecease me his share shall be taken by his wife Sarah Knight
( c) that should my said sister Fanny Pratt predecease me her share (and also her share (if any) under the third paragraph of this my will) shall be taken by her two daughters Florence and Nellie Pratt
(d) that should my said sister-in-law Mary J. Knight predecease me her share shall be taken by her child or children (and if more than one equally between them)
(e) that should my said sister-in-law Jessie Knight predecease me her share shall be taken by her daughter Julia Knight.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I the said Sophie E. Knight have to this my Will set my hand this fourteenth day of April Anno Domini, One thousand nine hundred and twenty-three.

SIGNED by the above named Sophie E. Knight as her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses
