In re DECEASED.
MARY ANNE PENELOPE LAWRENCE.
THIS IS THE LAST WILL of me MARY ANNE PENELOPE LAWRENCE of
Marion Lodge Shanklin in the Isle of Wight and of No 28 York Terrace Regents
Park in the County of London Spinster.
- I revoke all testamentary dispositions
heretofore made by me and I appoint my sister Edith Lawrence and
my nephew
Claud Lawrence to be the EXECUTRIX AND EXECUTOR AND TRUSTEES
hereof and I give to each of them who shall accept such office the sum of
two hundred pounds.
- I bequeath to my sister Edith Lawrence all my jewels
trinkets and other articles of personal use or ornament for her own use and
I also bequeath to her in like manner all my furniture plate and other articles
of household or domestic use or ornament except such of the aforesaid articles
at my decease in or about my leasehold house Morton Lodge as were in it when
I took possession in one thousand eight hundred and ninety five And I give
such last mentioned excepted articles in Morton Lodge at my death unto and
equally between my three sisters the said Edith Lawrence Ellen Gertrude the
widow of Andrew Charles Durrant and Annie Marguerite the
wife of Cecil
Wilson absolutely And I desire that in order to effect an equal
division the valuation of those last named excepted articles for the purposes
of Probate shall be taken as the basis for such division.
- I bequeath the
following pecuniary legacies
- To my said sister Ellen Gertrude
Durrant the
sum of four thousand pounds
- to my said sister Annie Marguerite Wilson
the sum four thousand pounds
- To my brother the Reverend Frederick Spencer
Laurence the sum of one thousand pounds as a token of my affection for
him
- To my niece Irene Laurence Durrant the sum of two thousand pounds
- To my niece Betty Laurence Durrant the sum of two thousand pounds
- To
my two god children hereinafter named viz Beatrice May Tritten wife of
Arthur Francis Tritton the sum of two hundred pounds and to Gerald Howard
Wilson the sum of two hundred pounds
- I bequeath the following pecuniary
legacies to my dear nephew and nieces and my loving remembrance accompanies
each one
- To my niece Madeline the wife of Charles Leslie Garten the sum
of one hundred pounds
- To my niece Grace Olympia the wife of Denis Edward
Pelly the sum of one hundred pounds
- To my great niece Penelope Enbell
the wife of Lieutenant Dudley Steward Norman the sum of one hundred pounds
- To my nephew Claud Lawrence the sum of two hundred pounds
- and to my niece
Hazel Iris Addis the wife of Lieutenant Eric Addis the sum of two hundred
pounds
- I bequeath to Julia Laurence the widow of my brother Joseph Alfred
Laurence the sum of one hundred pounds
- To Cicely Edith Enbell Lawrence
the widow of my brother Reginald Laurence the sum of one hundred pounds
- To my cousin Amy Constance Hull the sum of one hundred pounds
- To my cousin
The Reverend Carlyn John Alfred Laurence the sum of fifty pounds
- To my
cousin The Reverend Henry Laurence the sum of fifty pounds
- To Emmeline
Armstrong the wife of Edward Armstrong the sum of fifty pounds
- To Clifford
Brooks the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds with thanks and warm appreciation
for all his long continued and ever ready helpfulness and kindness to
Helen the wife of the Reverend Arthur Nash and to her sister Louise the
widow of the late Reverend Norman Nash the sum of two hundred and fifty
pounds each
- To my goddaughter
Elizabeth Mary Nash the daughter of the said Reverend Norman Nash the
sum of five hundred pounds
- To my cousin Charles Edward Laurence the sum
of one hundred pounds
- To my father's Gardener Charles W Chard the sum
of fifty pounds
- To my valued and attached maid Eva Vollett the sum of
fifty pounds
- To Walter Ridgewell (my gardener at Morton Lodge) and to
Mary his wife the sum of fifty pounds equally between
them if they both survive me and if only one of them survives me then
the whole to such survivor.
- I bequeath the following annuities free of
income tax viz an annuity of one hundred pounds per annum to the said
Eva Vollett during her life such annuity to commence
from the date of my death and to be paid by equal quarterly payments
and an annuity of eighty pounds per annum to the said Walter
Ridgewell and Mary his wife during their joint lives equally
and after the death of one of them an annuity of fifty two pounds per
annum to be paid to the survivor during his or her life such annuities
of eight pounds and fifty two pounds as the case may be to commence
from the date of my death or from the date when the said Walter
Ridgewell ceases
to be employed as the Gardener at Morton Lodge aforesaid whichever
date is the later and to be paid by equal quarterly payments And I
direct that my executors shall appropriate a sufficient part of my
estate to provide for the payment of such annuities and income tax
thereon current at the date of appropriation with power in case the
annual income of the appropriated fund shall any time prove insufficient
to provide for the said annuities and the income tax thereon to resort
to the capital of the appropriated fund for the payment of such annuities
And I declare that in case the annual income of the appropriated fund
shall at the date of appropriation be sufficient to satisfy the said
annuities and income tax therein such appropriation shall be a complete
satisfaction of the trust to provide for such annuities and such and
such income tax thereon as aforesaid And I declare that as each annuity
ceases a corresponding part of the appropriated fund and for the income
tax as aforesaid shall fall into and form part of my residuary estate.
- I
bequeath my leasehold house Morton Lodge aforesaid unto my trustees
Upon trust that my trustees shall sell the same at such time and in
such manner as they shall think proper with power nevertheless to postpone
the sale of the said house during such period as they shall think fit
without being responsible for loss And I hereby direct that the proceeds
of sale of the said house when sold and the income arising from the
said house until the sale thereof shall be divided among such of my
three sisters hereinbefore named as shall be living at my death and
if more than one in equal shares
- I direct that all bequests whether
pecuniary or specific including the annuities hereinbefore given by
this my will shall be paid free of duty and that where two or more
requests are made to the same person such bequests are cumulative
- I
declare that all powers and discretions hereby given to my trustees
shall be exercisable by the survivor of them or by other the trustees
or trustee for the time being of this my will.
Lastly subject to the payment of my debts funeral and testamentary
expenses legacies annuities and duties I give devise and bequeath and
appoint all the residue of my real and personal estate unto my said
sister Edith Laurence for her own use absolutely

nineteenth day of June one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight - MARY

THIS IS A CODICIL to the last will of me MARY ANNE PENELOPE LAURENCE of Morton
Lodge Shanklin in the Isle of Wight and of 28 York Terrace Regents Park in
the county of London Spinster which will bears date the nineteenth day of June
one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight Whereas since the date of my will
Walter Ridgewell therein named has died and whereas I gave to the said Walter
Ridgewell and to Mary his wife the sum of fifty pounds equally between them
if they both survived me and if only one of them survive me then the whole
to such survivor Now I Wholly revoke such legacy but I confirm in all respects
the of fifty two pounds given to the said Mary Ridgewell during her life if
she survived the said Walter Ridgewell. IN
WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand this twenty fourth day of July
one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight. MARY ANNE PENELOPE LAURENCE -
