Last will and Testament
of Alex S. Reid
of St. John's Chief Clerk in Financial
Secretary's Office, Deceased
.

This is the last will and testament of me Alexander Simpson Reid of St. John's Newfoundland.

  1. I direct that my executors shall receive the amounts of my two life policies Nos. 2417 and 5450 effected in the "Star Life Assurance" London, together with the bonuses and invest the same for the purposes hereinafter declared.
  2. I direct that the annual interest or profit arising from the money so invested shall be paid to my widow Caroline Chappett Reid for her support.
  3. Should it be deemed expedient by my widow to sell the whole or any part of my household furniture or other personal property; then the proceeds of such sale shall be invested by my executors as hereinbefore directed; and the additional interest arising therefrom shall be paid to my widow, Caroline Chappell Reid as directed in the foregoing section.
  4. In the event of the death of my widow, my executors shall as soon as possible realize my estate; and pay John Alexander Reid my son six hundred dollars ($600.00) proportion of life policy 2417; to Alice Maude McNeily my daughter, six hundred dollars, proportion of said Policy; to Anne M. S. Reid my daughter six hundred dollars ($600.00) proportion of said policy, and to Emily G. Reid my daughter six hundred dollars ($600.00) proportion of said Policy.
  5. In the event of the death of any of the beneficiaries - if they die unmarried, their share shall be equally divided among the survivors.
  6. My executors shall distribute the residue of my estate equally among my grandchildren, the children of John Alexander Reid and Isaac Robert McNeily.
  7. I appoint James Goodfellow and Isaac Robert McNeily as executors of this my last will and testament, 11 March 1889. Alex Simpson Reid.

I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will of A. S. Reid.
