Will of John Ryan
from Newfoundland will books volume 9 pages 232-234 probate year 1911

In re
      John Ryan          deceased.

      This is the last will and Testament of me, John Ryan of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland Draper and I hereby revoke all former wills and testamentary writings by me made, I hereby appoint my mother Ellen Ryan sole Executrix of this my will.

  1. I give and bequeath unto Edward Kelly of St. John’s (or Halifax), Fireman, who is a first cousin of mine the sum of two hundred dollars.
  2. I give and bequeath to Henry Kelly of St. John’s Labourer, the sum of two hundred dollars
  3. I give and bequeath to Margaret Webber wife of George Webber, of St. John’s Grocer the sum of one hundred dollars.
  4. I give and bequeath to the Reverend John McDermott, or his successor, the sum of one hundred dollars for St. Patricks Church (Catholic) at St. John’s
  5. I give and bequeath to Monsignor Edward P. Roche or his successor as Chancellor of the Diocese the sum of one hundred dollars to be used in repairing and keeping in order the graves in my family plot in Belvidere Cemetery.
  6. I give and bequeath to the Reverend John McDermott the sum of fifty dollars for his own use and benefit.
  7. I give and bequeath to the Superior of the Christian Brothers at St. John’s the sum of fifty dollars.
  8. All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal of every kind and description, I give and bequeath to my dear mother Ellen Ryan.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand to this my will at St. John’s aforesaid this twenty-fourth day of February A.D. 1911     John Ryan. Signed by the above named Testator as and for his last will in the presence of us, both being present at the same time, who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses Cyril J. Cahill David Walsh

This is a codicil to my last will on the other side hereof dated the twenty-fourth day of February A.D. 1911

1. I hereby revoke the bequest numbered one in said will and hereby give and bequeath to said Edward Kelly therein named the sum of one hundred dollars instead of two hundred dollars.
2 I hereby revoke the bequest numbered two in said will and hereby give and bequeath to said Henry Kelly therein named the sum of one hundred dollars instead of two hundred dollars
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand to this codicil to my last will this second day of March A.D. 1911     John Ryan    Signed by the said Testator John Ryan as and for a Codicil to his last will in the presence of us both being present at the same time who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses    Cyril J Cahill     Denis Butler.
