Last will and testament
of Mary Ann Ryan
of Paradise Widow Deceased
.

In the name of God Amen

I Mary Ann Ryan of Paradise Placentia Bay widow do hereby make and declare the following as and for my last will and testament. 1st. All my right title and interest in and to all the land, houses, farming stock and utensils belonging to the estate of my late husband Daniel Ryan deceased I will and bequeath to my grandchildren Philip John Brown, Daniel Thomas Brown and William Mary Brown, sons of William Brown, of Paradise conjointly each to have a like interest. 2nd. To William Brown, father of the said Philip John Brown, Daniel Thomas Brown and Wm Mary Brown, I will and bequeath the use of the above mentioned properties namely land houses, farming stock and utensils to be held until the youngest son the said William Mary Brown arrives at the age of twenty one years or in the event of his death until the younger surviving son attains the said age of twenty one years at which time the right of use of the said William Brown ceases and he must hand over to the possession of his sons the above mentioned properties. I further will that no rent will be demanded for the use of the properties during the term of the trusteeship but the said William Brown must charge himself, that is, take upon himself the support of the said Daniel Thomas Brown Philip John Brown and William Mary Brown. 3rd. To the Reverend William Doutney Parish Priest of Saint Kyrans, or to his successor therein, I will and bequeath the sum of fifty pounds for the celebration of masses for the repose of the soul of my late husband and my own. 4th. I will and bequeath the sum of twenty pounds currency to my first cousin, Mary Ryan widow. All the rest residue and remainder of my monies, goods chattels and effects I will and bequeath to my granddaughters Sarah Mary Brown Mary Browne, Selina Brown and Alice Maud Brown daughters of William Brown, to come into their possession when the youngest child will have arrived at the age of eighteen years, or in the event of her death where youngest surviving daughter arrives at that age. I will that during the minority of the said grandchildren, Sarah Mary Brown Selina Brown Mary Brown and Alice Maud Brown the interest of the monies in bank will each year be added to the capital until the youngest surviving child arrives at the age of twenty one years. I hereby nominate and appoint the Reverend William Doutney as executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills made by me Dated this third (3rd) day of November A.D. 1881 Mary Ann Ryan (L.S.) Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Stephen Power (L.S.) Patrick Healy. (L.S.)

Codicil. I Mary Ann Ryan do make and hereby declare that it is my will Mary Ryan my cousin being dead the money mentioned in fourth (4th) paragraph as a bequest to her, will be distributed as follows, eight pounds, ten shillings to the parish chapel of Paradise which hence I held in trust for chapel and eleven pounds ten shillings to be a free gift to the funds of same chapel I also declare that it is my will that all monies for masses & the monies for Paradise Chapel should be delivered immediately on my demise to the Parish Priest of St. Kyran's Dated this 22nd day of April 1883. I Mary Ann Ryan widow declare this to be my last will and testament namely that my will already made and signed be acted upon according to the law of the land, save and except in one clause only - namely the clause appointing the Rev. W. P. Doutney P.P. St. Kyran's, or other Parish Priest of St. Kyrans living at the time of my death, executor of my will. I appoint now in his stead namely in place of the Rev. W. P. Doutney or other Parish Priest Patrick Fuller and Stipendiary Magistrate of Presque executor of my will & testament. Signed Mary Anne Ryan her x mark witness Elizabeth Ryan her x mark witness of signatures W.P. Doutney Paradise March 3rd 1891.
