from Newfoundland will books volume 6 page 188 probate year 1894

Last Will and Testament of
Matthew Yard of Witless Bay
Fisherman deceased.

      In the name of God Amen I Mathew Yard of Witless Bay, fisherman, being weak in body but of sound memory and understanding do make this my last will and Testament in the manner and form following. 1st I bequate my soul to almighty God my body to the earth rotteness and worms 2nd I bequate to my son Christopher Yard my stage and flake situated at the North side of Witless Bay together with my fishing punt and all my land property situated on the north side of Witless Bay my wife Johannah Yard is to hold this property in her possession during her life then my son Christopher Yard is to inherit it. 3rd I bequate to my daughter Margaret Tobin that garden situate between land occupied by Thomas Yard and Thomas Armstrong. 4th I bequate to my son in law Peter Tobin twenty one feet of waterside property from John Chail to towards James Walsh. Sind in the presence of the undersined witnesses this fourth day of June one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine being first read for the testator. (Sgd) Mathew his x mark Yard witness present (sgd) James Burke. (Sgd) Joe Murphy - I appoint my son Christopher Yard executor of this my last will and testament. (Sgd) Mathew his x mark Yard. Witness present (sgd) James Burke. (Sgd) Jas. Murphy.

      I certify the foregoing to be a correct copy of the last will and Testament of Matthew Yard deceased
