Pilley family resided in the Twillingate District in the middle 1800's. They lived in places such as Tilt Cove, Morton's Harbour, Peter's Arm and Little Burnt Bay. The parents' names are James Pilley and Hannah (Griffin) Pilley. The names of their children are as follows: James, Lessie Mellisa, Victoria, Onie, Alexamder, Hettie, Mary Maude, Ann, Dorman. I'd appreciate any information you might have concerning this family especially details associated with the parents and a daughter named Mary Maude. Myrlane Ball

Hi from Australia. We hopefully will be coming to Newfoundland in 2015 and have been researching our family from there before we arrive. My great great grandmother Maria Ann Saunders (Pilley) and her family arrived in Aus in 1865. Her parents were William Pilley and Mary Hawkins who had seven children but only one male William born 1833.( second youngest) There is no Pilley on the census of 1794-95 but there is a death of a Mark Pilley (married to Barbara ) in 1800 and a birth of Elizabeth in 1798 so am assuming it is of the same family. There are no birth records from 1791 - 1795. On the census there is one family of Hawkins living in St John's and record of a Jane Hawkins born 1796 so it could be the family. Hope this helps . Lyn

Hi Lyn,
I am also a great great grandaughter of Maria Saunders (Pilley). I'm not sure your post is really hitting your target audience here in a Pelleys of Twillingate thread but I found you anyway! I have done quite a bit of work on our family and would love to link up.
Regards,
Meredith Young

I'm new to this site and also have a Pelly on my family tree. My husbands great grandfather Elias Toms was married to Jane (widow Pelly) I don't know her maiden name or her husbands first name...this was a second marriage for both and took place in Shoe Cove on November 20, 1873.
I'm not sure if Jane and her husband ... Pelly had any children. Jane and Elias had at least two daughters. One was Salina Jane and the other, my husbands grand mother, was Julia Ann Toms (1874-1951) born in Brook, Green Bay. Julia married Patrick Cavender September 29, 1892. All but one of their children were born in Tilt Cove including my father in law, Maxwell Aldean Cavender born in 1909.
I'd love to find out who Jane (widow Pelly) was married to.
Thanks Peggy
